- hedgiedarren, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6That's per month.
- jb978, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5even 30 bucks a year for unlimited calls??? that's a freaking awesome deal! Skype owns!
- zaph47, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What and when is Skype Plus?
- bmwboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Skype for linux won't be bad for long, I am part of a 10 person team working to dissect the skype protocol, so far we can connect and send messages without use of the official skype client. Tryed on Lin/Win and has a basic GTK interface so far.
- exjinn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Look I love Skype and have paid for the last TWO years but they have shown their lack of concern for Linux users. Since Ubuntu is my full time OS I have to deal with watching windows and mac versions advance while I'm stuck with a barely working, not even beta quality version. It's been complained about in Skype forums, to Skype via email and still nothing.
- blackjack75, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tried it. Apparently sending an SMS to a swiss number results in an "unknown error". Sigh. Not to mention it would be nice to have the ability to have your real number used as the sender (not an option apparently).
- MacParrot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The conference feature of the Skype 2.5 beta has worked great for me. We use it all the time along with Audio Hijack Pro for podcasting. Best of all, it's still free for what I use it for. I'm still holding off on changing my wired telephone service until the industry matures a little more.
- SteveMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been using the beta of skype 2.5 for some time now, and yes, it rocks. The SMS rates are somewhat expensive though, there are cheaper (or free) alternatives in most countries. Its voice quality is still unmatched. When Skype Plus sees the light of day, I'll never touch a home phone again!
- MasteRR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"and you have never heard of the Gizmo Project?"
Heard of it, yes. Used it, yes. Successful at switching everyone I talk to to it, no. - Jon99UT, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Skype is $29.95 for the year.
- MasteRR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2So when are we going to get an update to Skype for Linux that makes it something more than utter rubbish?
Sorry, I'm just annoyed. - JEmerson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Same here. I work in all three, but linux is the system I really like using. I'd heard a lot of complaining about that version before, but a quick test of it seemed OK. So I put it down to people just a bit annoyed at lack of webcam support, or misunderstanding the difference in version numbering and actual work. It's not the case though, the linux version is hovering somewhere between alpha and beta quality at this point. Worse, there seems to be pretty scant official recognition of the problems. I don't care at all about features like webcam, I do care about having the audio quality to the point where I can even have a button press recognised by the receiving phone to the point where I can navigate audio menus with it.
- tuartboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"not an option apparently"
Actually, it is. It's the only option in the SMS tab of the preferences. You just have to verify your number. - SteveMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Well... Sorry. I meant skype pro:
http://www.skype.com/products/skypepro/ - tfaz1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1$15 a year if you got in before the end of January!
- tiredofpolitics, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Warning. There is a very really problem with using touch tones on the OSX version. Many IVR's and automated systems will not recognize more than 3 or 4 DTMF tones in a row. It works great for voice but don't depend on it for anything that makes you use the keypad.
- SteveMax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1http://www.skypeplus.com/
- waferthinmint, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Amen to that -- I love Skype, but Skype for Mac is useless for most conference/bridge services that make you dial in a 6-10 digit conference code after you're connected. Similarly, it would be useless for any voice-mail system that makes you dial in a 4-5 digit PIN. It's a huge disappointment.
Attention Skype: Please fix DTMF in Skype for Mac! - fbradyirl, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Any Irish diggers out there can sms for free using this:

- nswint, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Area code 775 is Nevada
- JEmerson, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Skype can be a mixed bag. I've found it to be pretty good on windows, so-so on osx, and nearly unusable in the long term in linux. Heck, skype for windows mobile over wireless beats out the performance I get from the linux builds.
- rajulkabir, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Somewhat" expensive? Their SMS rates are about twice as much as what it costs from my phone (US$0.04 to any foreign number).
- cg0def, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1So you use linux ( or so you claim ) and you have never heard of the Gizmo Project? Not only has it been around longer than Skype but it's quality is just as good and you get a free call-in number as long as you don't care about the area code ( you get a free Altlanta, GA number ). Oh yeah and it works the same on linux windows and macos. So stop bitching and do some research if you are so far behind.
- bigohofn, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Isn't vonage much better than skype? Vonage is 24.99 for unlimited calls.
