Illuminous is too dark, dreary, and stiff for the average Mac user. There is such a concept as too much of a good thing. Illumious works in apps, but shouldn't take over the entire OS. It works well because it's not everywhere. It's a nice contrast to the OS. Sure, updating the look and feel is reasonable, but not overdoing it. Get Shapeshifter if you're that bored.

I don't think it has gotten old to the point where most people can't stand it anymore, as was the case with the classic Mac OS.

Really? You have the connection required to download 18 gig of data in a reasonable amount of time? This isn't Apple's problem. Talk to your ISP. - DaDaDave, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1agreed. The black is perfect for a/v type media (itunes cover flow, aperture, shake, etc) but would be overwhelming for the entire OS. The grey used in OS X now is unobtrusive and simple, which is why I prefer it's looks over windows. Vista gives me a headache.
