- DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+22Or simple means "Please don't sue us"
- tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14For anyone that hates the name "TubePort", remember how hard it used to be to say "Macbook Pro"?
- time2go, on 10/12/2007, -5/+14My wife is giving birth to our third child soon...can this be called TUBEPORTING too?
- Groady, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I remember Kevin Rose leaked some info the day before the current video ipod was release and was spot on.
- brbrandon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I guess why this TubePort would be using a dongle on one end and a proprietary wireless network instead of just using 802.11g WIFI from the computer, is that the dongle is probably a pre-N device. This makes sense since there are issues with streaming high res video over 802.11g.
- thecharliefarm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7persnonally i thought the name "nano" was a bit crap when i first heard it. and nobody seemed to like the name "mac book pro" either.
- RedGiant, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Neither are MacBook.com or MacBookPro.com, but that didn't stop that did it?
- digispin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8it reads in a way that strikes as legit. trouble is, if true, apple should price the HD content in a way that bundles it automatically with the iPod formatted, kind of a freebie for your trouble ($$$).
i'm looking forward to dumping my TiVo, though. - goodcompany, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5"A little birdie just flew into TUAW headquarters (a little birdie who wishes to remain anonymous)"
--
Not to nitpick, but when a little birdie tells you anything little birdie is gonna wish to remain anonymous. That's the whole deal about being little birdie. - seanlynch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Don't forget the initial reaction to the name "iPod"
- bertram, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4http://whois.domaintools.com/tubeport.com - not owned by Apple.
- bwjacket, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5does anyone know when this event starts (est) and where i can find live coverage?
- dzarkw, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8I really don't think the "fullscreen" iPod would ever replace the normal iPod we have now. The line of iPods should be iPod Nano, iPod (current form-factor modified for 6th gen), and iPod "Video" (or whatever name) which will be the one with the full screen front and virtual click wheel. Price points:
Nano - same as now, but 2GB, 4GB, and 8GB
iPod - same as now, but 40GB and 80GB (or something along those lines)
iPod Video - 60GB and 120GB for $499 and $599
This wouldn't be the first time iPods were that expensive (first 60GB iPod Photo), so it's not unexpected, especially with those fetures/storage. - MikeMacMan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6I hope these predictions are true... but I bet they aren't.
- r2builder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I think maybe TubePort was ONE of the names apple gave to their workers - so that they can track who it was that blabbed. So, they'd give a different fake name to each person working on the project.
If this is all true, then I bet Mr TubePort will be getting fired right about... now. - Sequence, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I think we'd pay 15$ for unlimited viewing of the movie, the thing is it wouldn't be hosted on your harddrive thus only the ability to view movies when you're on the internet.
- SgnDave, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4System of TubePorts, not iDumps.
/dugg - ohnnyj, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Or the Nintendo Wii.
- narula, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2As you all know - the internet is not something you just dump something on - it's a series of tubes: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kiZ-TqvVdGM
- lane.montgomery, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The whole point of this is that the movies are HD quality. Am I the only one that read that between the lines of the type of component/hd hookup it will use?
If you buy movies, Apple sells them to you to watch on your iPod or computer instantly, but to watch them on the TV will take a little bit to buffer. The standard movies and high def movies will be too much to store on current hard drives for another couple of years (which is the minimum time normal people spend between upgrades (e.g. not us).
Apple has to keep the storage space used down so people worry less about having to delete something to buy something new. That increases the risk that the customer will choose to not use your service when you put up barriers like that.
And for the record, I would definately buy movies on the new ShowTime store for 20 bucks under the dual format setup. That really is the best option to sell stuff like this to people who don't understand different codecs and formats. Convenience always was the strong suit of iTunes and its only hope to compete against free services. - pcharles23, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Its real! believe it ....
- Tanbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2MediaPort, not TubePort.
- Tux541, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4I don't believe this is real. A few reasons. I first off doubt Apple would ever a a pricing system with $9.99 for low res, $14.99 for high res, and $19.99 for both? Way too confusing. Apple likes the one price for all plan.
Second, Tubeport? Worst name ever. Apple is not that stupid.
Third, the Tubeport comes with both HD cables and Component? Wait, Wait... Last I checked compenent is typically used for HD... Wouldn't it be composite cables?
Plus we only have about 12 hours to go so just wait it out. - rkettner, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3For a second I thought I saw "new Metallica Nanos"... aha. Would be a lame PR attempt though.
- cessax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i agree. it'd be hilarious if it was called that though...then i'd have to say it was the adult entertainment industry influencing Steve Jobs on this whole 'pioneering movie sales online' business model hehe
- Amplix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Tubeport??
You mean I'll have a more direct access to the series of tubes? - the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1"New iPod Nano Announcement (nice brushed casing, while it will have same features as first gen, only a longer battery life)"
I think "Brushed Casing" refers to the metal. - bluemist, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3I was thinking iTube... but then YouTube...
- the_snitch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1whats with Apple's naming schemes as of late? They just don't roll of the tounges like they used to.
exibits A through C: "Mighty Mouse", "Front Row" "MacBook Pro"
...and now "TubePort"?? - KostasG, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This is just a controlled leak. The real products, prices and specifications are going to be better than those leaked today, so we all are going to be amazed with the keynote. Marketing tricks.
- imack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1But I can't receive my internets when my neighbor fill the tubes with the big films! Everybody knows that 16:9 is much more then 4:3.
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4iWant
- jhahl, on 10/12/2007, -5/+6I'm not saying they won't release a device possibly like this. But it won't be called the "Tubeport". Before hitting the little negative button, do a little research and see if Apple has copyrighted "Tubeport" and who owns tubeport.com.
- atommclain, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Wow if this is true I don't think I could ask for more!
I will be at the Alderwood Mall Apple Store in Lynnwood for the real announcement, anyone else planning to be at thier local store during the announcement?
I'd love to meet some fellow mac heads! - Tanbo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It won't be called TubePort, that just sounds retarded.
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Using any iPod will do that...
- mootymoots, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1yea if you have tiger claws...
- albrad84, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Any rumor that contains a product called 'tubeport' cannot be true
- cessax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1brilliant!
- mlkmnz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I stand by my statement. This prediction is a load of *****.
- phlll, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Who owns tubeport? Glad you asked! Netsol is your friend!

Data as of: 14-Jun-2005 - kevnaca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Sounds reasonable, i just don't know about Tubeport (doesn't sound very Appleish). Well confirmation is (it's 10:30pm right now so) 11.5hrs away till the festivities. Someone have a counter?
- phronko, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11:00pm EST. I was wondering this myself. Dunno where exactly you can find live video, but I'm sure every tech site will have a link and running commentary come 1:00.
- jasondefaoite, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3You remember incorrectly. Kevin Rose correctly leaked the name "Nano" for the iPod mini replacement ... nothing to do with the iPod Video
- cbiz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If most of this happens the Apple store and e-store will be the biggest success story this holiday. I think a record number of PC buyers will switch with no Vista to buy and the new iPods will dominate because of both the music and video store. Time to buy the stock again is my guess...
- jnaina, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0TubePort could be based on the upcoming Wireless High Definition Interface (WHDI) standard.
http://www.twice.com/article/CA6296822.html - puffarthur, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2I want a BoobPort, sent directly to my dongle.
- cessax, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2my first movie i will download from iTMS will be a porn...just so i can say i streamed some porn out of my dongle right into my tubeport...yeahhh baby yeahhhhh!
- rkettner, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3It sounds to me (again, if this thing is accurate at all) like the videos can be watched over and over... just streamed from a secure "locker". Still kind of lame, in that you need to be on the net to watch it... seems like far too many things can go wrong during playback (internet, software, tubeport or whatever it's supposed to be).
- ashukg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wow so much hype just for this! Apple knows how to create hype!
