- khsheehan, on 09/05/2008, -11/+163I use a PC, but really that is embarrassing. I'm tired of the "Let's pick a platform" *****. If you have the funding (no ***** they're google) make a version for every OS; especially Linux where the open source community is thriving.
- FunkyChicken, on 09/05/2008, -5/+117Loved how he shrugged his shoulders when she asked about Microsoft. :)
"Ahh.. we don't spend out time thinking about Microsoft. We spend our time thinking about the Web."
Verrry nice. - onClipEvent, on 09/05/2008, -5/+81wearing CROCS in public is NOT cool.....
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -5/+57I think his shoes are more embarrassing...lol
- LennyX, on 09/05/2008, -10/+56Ahhh damn it. I don't want to wait months for the Mac version to come out...
- rrbaker, on 01/15/2009, -6/+44I'm tired of it, too, but can't say it's *****. They went with the Windows platform, where the biggest market share is, where the browser is needed most (where any browser besides IE is needed). I'm disappointed by no Mac version, I'm sure Linux users... well Linux users gotta be used to it by now, sadly, but can I blame Google? Not really. It's on the way and why wait for a Mac version to launch both?
- louiebaur, on 09/05/2008, -2/+35Sergey's reaction to the Microsoft question was priceless!
- brianjlowry, on 09/05/2008, -1/+25That's been debunked. They are, in fact, inexcusable for everyone.
- BlueStarr, on 09/05/2008, -8/+31what? isn't it based off webkit? and isn't it x86? then!
Can't wait for Safari 4....
http://webkit.org/blog/189/announcing-squirrelfish ... - ThaDRD, on 09/05/2008, -5/+22With all that money he has, he should hire somebody to properly dress him every day. Pink Crocs are only excusable on a 5 year old girl.
- GumGuts, on 09/05/2008, -2/+18Does he look a little stoned or is that just me?
- pw378, on 09/05/2008, -4/+20At least Google plans to release for Mac and Linux, thats better than 99% of other development companies!
Google's employees love their Macs and Linux, they'll get a Mac version out soon because their own employees will revolt if they don't! - pak314, on 09/05/2008, -3/+19They had time and money to make the "cool" comic book though.
- Majician, on 09/05/2008, -1/+17He's a BILLIONAIRE, He's got more important things to worry about....Like under which couch in one of his 18 houses he forgot the keys to his Mercedes...

- MrYellow, on 09/05/2008, -5/+20Crocs, are you serious? I guess hes no Steve Jobs.
- MrJagil, on 09/05/2008, -1/+15no matter where you wear them..
- dn11, on 09/05/2008, -1/+15You can bet Microsoft spends ALL it's time obsessing about Google.
- Visceral, on 09/05/2008, -4/+17Crocs were never cool my friend.
- GumGuts, on 09/05/2008, -1/+14Yeah but come on
Pink crocs to a launch event?
Psh - jamesmcm, on 09/05/2008, -1/+14WebKit was created from Konqueror IIRC, and so is open source - note a lot of the webkit development was done by Apple for Safari though.
- Zera, on 09/05/2008, -0/+12The response was appropriate for such a stupid question.
"Do you feel like Microsoft's gonna react badly to this?, Did you think about that? Do you worry about that?"
What? But yes, what a perfect answer.
She should have asked about how Chrome affects Google's future relationship with Mozilla. - brundlefly76, on 09/05/2008, -3/+14It isnt efficient to launch on Mac and Linux initially.
Launch your app to 80% of the computer users with Windows, get feedback, fix bugs, tweak.
Then take the revised code and port to Mac and Linux.
It is not fun for Mac and Linux users, but is way more efficient for developers. - arjie, on 09/05/2008, -2/+12That's funny, I don't remember Apple making Safari for KDE when Webkit is based off KHTML. Everyone must be judged by the same standards, or else the standards are wrong.
- dygel, on 09/05/2008, -1/+10Yeah... all version 0.2 apps should be built for multiple operating systems. Durr.
- stfunoobs, on 09/05/2008, -3/+12ok, your the biggest thing since sliced bread, (ok, you are Free Beta sliced bread) do you...
A. make your bread fit in 90% of commercially available toasters
B. make your bread fit in a really expensive toaster that only certain segments of the population can afford
C. make love to an ostrich
D. All of the above
If you chose D, you obviously did not notice that in most countries C is illegal - aliguana, on 09/05/2008, -2/+10if Jobs turned up in Crocs, sales of the things would go through the roof, and everyone in Starbucks would be wearing them, with cries of "Crocs were always cool - you just don't get it maaaan"
- dn11, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8Kara Swisher is always a sure bet for stupid questions.
- knowmonger, on 09/05/2008, -5/+13Stop it people. Who cares about *****-up Apple ?! They didn't release Safari for others till recently (still nothing for linux).
And face it, Windows still lives to be the biggest platform. I use Linux BTW. But I'm being patient. - Protoss, on 09/05/2008, -0/+8Yeah from the 'months' quote it seems like Google wants to tune the UI to each platform, not just port it over. They want to do what Mozilla did for Firefox 3, and not have a horrible mess like FF1 and 2 were.
- branndon, on 09/05/2008, -7/+14That's funny, I'm using VMWARE to run it to.... on my Hackintosh.... kinda twist there huh, lol.
- veriix, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7Damnit, now I'm hungery...
...for ostrich love making - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7Who cares- we have iphoto instead
- D3koy, on 09/05/2008, -2/+9Only Google can take a mistake and turn it into a plus while simultaneously bashing Microsoft...Gotta love 'em (this from a die hard windows user)
- ToothyMcshark, on 09/05/2008, -0/+7He's rich enough to not give a *****.
- trogdoor, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6Chromium builds on Mac and Linux already, it's the UI that's the real problem, not the internals.
- chuzwuzza, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6@treed
From what I gather, the webkit builds on webkit.org are just that - webkit. It uses the version of safari on your system as a wrapper. - anshuman, on 09/05/2008, -1/+7tech guys normally have insomnia and work long nights, that gives the stoned look. i have the stoned look too when i havent even dranked a single drop of alcohol or a cig in my life as i start my 30's. I have accepted the stoned look and have stopped getting ashamed of it.
- foohookups311, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6I don't know about you guys but who else is getting sick of the ad to the right from True.com. I can't stand pulling up every digg link and seeing her play patty cake with her boyfriend.
- jdandrea, on 09/05/2008, -0/+6RELAX, folks. It will get here soon enough.
I for one appreciate SOMETHING having been released. There's no conspiracy afoot or intentional dissing of the Mac platform. WebKit doth not make the entire user and behind-the-scenes experiences. Google engineers are being careful to measure twice, cut once, as it were. (Good!)

http://dev.chromium.org/developers/how-tos/build-i ... - ksgant, on 09/05/2008, -6/+12I'm on a Mac. I love my Mac. I love OS X. But the thing is, it's the same old story from just about everywhere. Either I have to wait for a version to get put out on the Mac (Chrome, utorrent, zbrush 3, 64 bit Photoshop, 64-bit Maya....list goes on and on), or you don't get anything at all and just use an equivalent that may or may not be as good.
And the argument of using something different than the application you want to use doesn't work as far as I'm concerned. I want to use the applications I want to use and not be restrained. I love my Mac, but I'm getting tired of this *****. - cbeach, on 09/05/2008, -4/+9With Firefox and Safari highly optimised for OS X, Macs already have two blazing fast browsers. It's PC users stuck with IE that Google is tackling first, and good luck to them
- j4200, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5@khsheehan: they've designed it from the ground up to be multiplatform. quit being a crybaby style fanboy. Windows was first in order to garner the most users for testing. It's beta software. Let them finish it.
- missingnoh4x, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Hey, Linux over here! Pay attention to me!
- inactive, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5It's coming soon enough - I can wait thanks. I have Safari and Firefox which are good enough for me.
- sprash, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5And Webkit is based on KHTML.
Webkit is just a C++ Library. The core libraries of Webkit are platform independent. - MacSuxWindozSux, on 09/05/2008, -0/+5Unless they changed Webkit somehow to make Chrome, which didn't allow it to compile and run on a Mac...
I mean it's open source, so why don't you compile it and try it out on your mac then. - foolfoolz, on 09/05/2008, -13/+18apple elitistism stereotypes come from where ... ?
- peestandingup, on 09/05/2008, -5/+9Google has always flaked on Mac users. Which is quite odd seeing how close a relationship they have with Apple & seeing that probably half (or more) of Google employees use Macs.
They also share basically the same "simple but powerful" design philosophy. - inactive, on 09/05/2008, -3/+7Don't worry, Crome isn't worth much anyway. Stick to FF or Safari.
