- itsme92, on 10/12/2007, -4/+50I'd think that it only would play when you turned it on for the first time, like the Mac OS X intro video.
- kypen, on 10/12/2007, -6/+45Would that really be so horrible for a 5 second or so video to play while it loads all of it's necessary stuff? Game systems have been doing it for years and it is a hell of a lot better than a cheesy POST screen telling you how much graphics memory you have.
- joehobbes, on 10/12/2007, -12/+50That plays EVERY time you start it up?
It's stunning and all, but isn't it kinda overkill for a startup screen?
It is a start of a nice commercial, however... - joper90, on 10/12/2007, -3/+31i know im going to get dugg down (slight tangent).. but i still love the start up of the gamecube.. the best startup screen ever..
i know im going to have fun when that thing startups.. more so that all the (my) other consoles, the dreamcast comes a close second thou. - Protoss, on 10/12/2007, -0/+22VIDEO_TS isn't a video format buddy. Its...a folder actually. MPEG2 is the format ;)
- Sujay, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Here's the original high quality Quicktime version off Apple's website:
http://images.apple.com/itunes/home/images/2007/01/appletv_intro_20070109.mov - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+11It's really no different than the startup of Tivo
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7just remember to hold down Z when you start your cube!
- tuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6i agree game cube rocks
- ramcosca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6He didn't say you said that. He's putting up an example, damnit.
And get your facts straight. You're a disgrace to the Mac community... it's APPLE! - sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7My name is Mac, and I take offense to that, damnit.
(Really, my name is Mac. And I use a Mac. Another tangent, but does anyone else know how annoying it is to get "OMG YOUR NAME IS MAC AND YOU USE A MAC HOW FUNNY LOLOLOL"?) - tfedullo, on 10/12/2007, -5/+9mirror
http://www.hellologan.com.nyud.net:8080/site/gfx_movies/apple_tv.php - ramcosca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Okay then...
...wait. That was all the comment? Not your 300? What does that have to do with the startup? - moofer, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4uh... it'll supposedly play everything in your iTunes library. I have lots of videos in my library that weren't purchased through the iTunes store. It'll play any mp4 and H.264 HD encoded video.
- Neomoon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4^ Nice
- ramcosca, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6Heh. I always thought that was correct. Digg me down.
- VermiciousKnid, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wtf?
- jagtar, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4xbox 1 does all this once modded and it functions great!....it uses the xbmc xbox360 interface, been using it to stream my podcasts (from rss and stored on my HDD) my movies, music and so on..
but ofcourse apple had to add some features to make it worth buying, which i like---the thing when another mac comes near etc. - nicktripp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I was pleased to hear the Gamecube startup sound when I started a Gamecube game from the Disc Channel of my Wii. It really is a great sound.
- ramcosca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Can't click on the mirrors?
Provided by tfedullo: http://www.hellologan.com.nyud.net:8080/site/gfx_movies/apple_tv.php - cjvino, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Well if it works with any video that's in your iTunes library then just use a product like iSquint to convert your .AVIs and .WMVs into .MP4 then import them into iTunes.
I had plenty of .AVIs, .FLVs etc. that I converted to .MP4 for my Video iPod and they work great. Apple TV seems like it's just a Video iPod that uses your TV for a screen so it I'm hoping it works the same way.
Edit: finkployd beat me to it. :) - pyper, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@idean360
where in my post did I say $100??? I just said I thought it was overpriced, i have no doubt it functions well. - mscman, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4@ramcosca:
If you're going to correct someone, at least make sure you spell "dammit" correctly... - crazyboy1121, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That same video is on the apple website!
- finkployd, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5http://www.isquint.org/
- dasluvaluva, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5That's why I'm disappointed with the XBox360 only streaming WMV files.
- zmigliozzi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i was going to say the same thing... a simple logo kinda like how xbox does it works with me, something just plain and simple and not too busy.
- pyper, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1@ramcosca
owning an "Apple" iBook does not make me part of your Fanboy community! - sych0, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3How often do we see the tivo animation? Only when the unit reboots (plus you can skip it). I'd assume (read: hope) Apple Tv uses a similar standby mode to turn it "on" and "off" while actually being on the whole time
- BWhaler, on 10/12/2007, -5/+5Wow. Apple really knows how to make sure every aspect of a product is beautiful
- jman8888, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1They...Deleted it..
- Dustyb, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Reminds me of the intro to Lary King Live.
- jues, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2You want me to transcode all my lossy .avi files into another format? Ummm, how's about no - they have already suffered one such conversion.
- mpeng168, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2404
- litmus101, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1no its not the intro its the pre movie for the original Appletv that was on their home page in Jan 07
- mlavergn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Agree with idean, at $149 that would be a good price. I think $300 is really stretching it (a fully portable video iPod is only $250) BUT if it's a real mini-computer under the hood (it has an Intel Pentium M) and if it's capable of being "unconstrained" to run OSX and/or Linux then it would be worth it for the hack factor. I'm waiting for someone to crack the case and post a snapshot of what's inside before I make up my mind. As an iTunes extender it's probably not worth it ... but as a sub-mini x86 very interesting!
- gateway, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4yea, xbox 1 = xbmc (xbox media center) does rock, how ever the 720p playback doesnt work, not enough horses under the old xbox's hood to decode that sort of data :(
- SpongeBad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Is it just me, or does this seem more like the intro to when Apple TV was presented at MacWorld? Doesn't seem like a startup screen at all...why include a shot of the box it's running on?
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1"Bad news. Your mother has cancer. Here's a post screen to cheer you up."
- nsjoker, on 10/12/2007, -8/+6Very nice, I like.
- zigziggityzoo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4@Norman, that's not it. That's ripped from the AppleTV website. It's similar, but not the same. Re-check those screenshots.
Edit: Here's the website: http://www.apple.com/itunes/ - BlackAdderIII, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2"""does anyone else know how annoying it is to get "OMG YOUR NAME IS MAC AND YOU USE A MAC HOW FUNNY LOLOLOL"""
You should worry - my name's Apple AND I'm a cross-dresser, which is why I can never own an AppleTV. - DigitalCorpus, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1true, Sans the end in those pictures, its the same as the intro movie on Apple's website.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3How so?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2http://www.hellologan.com/site/images/news_top_lt_winter07.gif
"Design and animation of the startup movie for the new Apple product." - tuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1nice i like it how is it an ad if u own the video?
- JustinZz, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0if x360 played divx/xvid it would be over...
but Microsoft's a bunch of penny pinching losers sooo who knows when that will happen - etandrib, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2Is the site down already?
Any mirrors? (duggmirror didn't get it) - idean360, on 10/12/2007, -12/+9FYI, "mac" isn't a company...
You're paying for the UI, it's not easy being simple. It is still more money than it should be, but $100 is too little, $149.99 would have been perfect. -
