a. Apple did put a forward facing camera in their, did not mention it when they unveiled the product (this would be a big selling point), and nobody who has had a hands on has mentioned it either.
b. This is a grease mark/light senor/optical illusion, or some other minor phenomena.

- alpha88, on 06/12/2008, -11/+72They're not using a screen protector. They have a cover on the back because they were demoing the iPhone before announcing the 3G version, and had to hide the new design, but they didn't need a screen protector.
It really, really looks like a camera. That's not where the proximity sensor or light sensor is, and it looks too round for a fingerprint.

The fact that everyone there knew what at iPhone looks like, and that little thing about it being thicker than the 1st gen iPhone, likely dissuaded him from whipping it out.
