- phantom_mullet, on 08/22/2008, -8/+104LOL...I love how the Digg mob favors piracy most of the time, but then when Apple is involved, it's almost as if there is a conflict of interest.
(peering inside of a Digger's mind)
*Ooh! Apple! must digg up!
*Oh wait, we're talking about DRMed music?!
*Uhhhhh....wait...so....***** THE RIAA...???...
*Wait, but Apple is involved, so that can't be right...
*DOES NOT COMPUTE* - tehawesome531, on 08/22/2008, -13/+84I'd pay $130 a year for unlimited music downloads only if they let me keep them after I cancel the subscription. Renting music sounds like a huge waste of money.
- Evilblobs, on 08/21/2008, -3/+62It'll all be DRM'ed or protected in some manner, and while i dont expect Apple to go anywhere anytime soon, i do rather enjoy... owning my music (or atleast just doing what i please with my torrented albums)
- metapop, on 08/21/2008, -6/+46i have a pretty large music collection, i don't think i'd even pay $99 a year for a subscription. some people probably would, but not me.

C'mon, this is getting stupid. - WiseWeasel, on 08/22/2008, -2/+30Obviously, the answer would be yes to both.
- fuzzmeister, on 08/22/2008, -1/+28A subscription service is one of the few places where DRM is legitimate, as you are paying for a license to listen to the songs under the subscription, not buying the songs themselves.
- vault, on 08/22/2008, -0/+20If they didn't stop playing once the subscription is up, then who would continue their subscription? Just download thousands of songs your first month.
It's not like the record companies are so dense they never thought of that. - vagrantwade, on 08/22/2008, -9/+27Wow, so digg is anti-piracy now? So the 4chan douches move in and Digg increases morality?
- vault, on 08/22/2008, -2/+19A lot wouldn't, though...iTunes in its current form has been pretty successful in spite of the rampant piracy.
- modifiedbears, on 08/22/2008, -1/+18There's no way you could find 2 albums everyday worth sitting through.
- phantom_mullet, on 08/22/2008, -6/+23To those of you digging me down, you can't handle the truth.
- megaton, on 08/22/2008, -4/+21And then, sometimes, I listen to it... again!
2 albums is usually no more than 2 hours. I'm typically awake for 17 hours a day. Or at least working at the desk 9+. I'm an addict, sure, but I love hearing new music.
Why would you criticize me for that? - KublaiKhan, on 08/22/2008, -11/+26Yes, please, continue to enjoy the creative product of a musician without offering anything in return.
The music industry is hardly faultless for the present state of piracy, but I still don't think that makes piracy an ethically neutral act. - IbbyIbby, on 08/22/2008, -3/+17***** article
- MyNameIsJoe, on 08/22/2008, -0/+11I can't see myself paying $130 dollars for music.
However, if they do $130 unlimited movie rentals, my order for an Apple TV will be in the mail. - MacParrot, on 08/22/2008, -0/+11Doesn't iTunes ALREADY have a "plan" for owning music? Isn't that the point? I'm not trying to insult you, but what are you talking about?
- OfNumbers, on 08/22/2008, -14/+24Alternatively, type in "(Band Name) Discography" or any other collection of phrases at piratebay.org and pay nothing.
- RetlawST, on 08/22/2008, -0/+101 ) No.
2) Yes.
That's the point of a subscription.
I have always been a fan of the iTunes model for the sole purpose that I kept the music as long as I wanted. I also make the point to ONLY buy iTunes+ music to get the idea that DRM sucks. - dylio, on 08/22/2008, -2/+11Support artists even more by going to their show.
- inactive, on 08/22/2008, -5/+14I'll say what I said before on MyBabyMan's other article.
$129 a year isn't too bad.
I would pay $129 for Soulja Boy to kill himself, but I think that's out of line. :( - KnightofCydonia, on 08/22/2008, -2/+11so its like getting a whore instead of getting married?
- fatfonzie, on 08/22/2008, -1/+9renting music IS the ultimate plan. Owning? LOL, we tried that. This is better!
/signed RIAA - phantom_mullet, on 08/22/2008, -0/+8Touché.
I guess I should have clarified that this is mostly applicable to Diggers who are Apple fanboys (which is a fairly sizable group). - infiniphunk, on 08/22/2008, -3/+11The 4chan crowd have the attention span of a turnip. They are gone already.
- the13thzen, on 08/22/2008, -0/+8Nope. Piracy > Apple.
Always. - kenvsryu, on 08/22/2008, -0/+7Pandora can't afford the royalties.
- Urkel, on 08/22/2008, -4/+11It's funny how iTunes fans hated the idea of subscription services a year ago. But now that Apple is rumored to be doing it then they suddenly have a change of mind and search for ways to praise them for it.
- infiniphunk, on 08/22/2008, -7/+14When the band comes to my town to play a show, I'll gladly pay some cover-charge to go see them. Live music is still where it's at. Until then, a band's album is just a resumé, as far as I'm concerned. Carry on.
- Nouman6, on 08/22/2008, -1/+7I really hope the artists are still getting their fair cut from this...
- fatfonzie, on 08/22/2008, -0/+6iZune, you should too. HA ha ha Ha Ha HA ha.. choke.
- kinseyincanada, on 08/22/2008, -3/+9so what yor saying is you want to pay $130 for every single song on itunes forever, look i know everyone seems to want to have music for free, but it cost money to make, and those who make it should be rewarded, i would gladdly pay 130 a year for unlimited music if it went to the right sources.
- nreynolds, on 08/22/2008, -1/+7@ OfNumbers
A little bit all over the place, are we? - badassninja, on 08/22/2008, -2/+8Hi, do you work for the RIAA? Because that's a crap face idea.
- ziromix, on 08/22/2008, -1/+6WOAH....woah. that made... NO sense.
- Fell, on 08/22/2008, -0/+5Zune dun it, did it, and duz it.
- sarchosis, on 08/22/2008, -0/+5Not really a huge waste of money. At $129 a year, it's $10.75 a month, so it's like buying a new album every month, except you can download as much as want, that is, assuming it's more than a rumor. Of course, still not as good a deal as torrents, assuming you don't factor in getting hit by the RIAA.
- sheasie, on 08/22/2008, -0/+5If they included TV shows, I am on board!
- sardiax, on 08/22/2008, -2/+7The bottom line is that for $130/year you would be paying for the right to use an inferior product.
(Compared to what you can find for free.) - nhansen, on 08/22/2008, -0/+5That would be "you're"
- toetagger, on 08/22/2008, -0/+5I get a better subscription price on TPB.
- mattsx, on 08/22/2008, -0/+4It's a great idea. LiveNation and many other music companies now sign artists to what they call "360 deals." The truth is, artists see only pennies for each CD sold. CDs (mp3 sales, whatever) are mostly to promote attendance at bands' concerts, and the sale of concert tickets and merchandise is where most bands make the majority of their income. Music piracy doesn't hurt artists, it hurts record companies.
- MacParrot, on 08/22/2008, -1/+5I think there are fewer people pirating than is believed. Most people just want a decent product at a fair price and both Amazon and iTunes offer that. The number of loud obnoxious 12 year old-like pirates as seen on digg is hardly representative of the real world.
Now digg me down for thinking most people are decent. - bawpcwpn, on 08/22/2008, -0/+4Sales of Audio Hijack Pro and other such programs will go through the roof.
- Persian5Life, on 08/22/2008, -1/+5why is this man getting negative diggs! he preaches the truth!
- SilverBlade2k, on 08/22/2008, -1/+5If I can't disable my cash, they shouldn't disable my songs. period. end of story.
- dsoltesz, on 08/22/2008, -1/+5RTFA - Not the same story. This one is a comparison of the rumored iTunes subscription to other existing services, which are all significantly more expensive.
- o0adam0o, on 08/22/2008, -1/+5Hmmm i dunno...i pay half of that on my Rapidshare account...
- ThinkBox, on 08/22/2008, -1/+4What do you mean "fair"???
Its a duplicate story, as in that same story, not the same article or link. This kinda crap is annoying, but its just inexcusable for someone who we KNOW is on digg almost 24/7. -
