- Sarf, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8BTW Rogers is the only possible provider for the iPhone in canada, neither Telus or Bell can do it beceause they don't use GSM.
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8Unfortunately rogers doesn't seem to cave in to popular demand.
They renamed the ***** Skydome for christ's sake! I refuse to call it by its rebranded name and it will always be the Skydome to me. - KraigR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8You call yourselves Canadian but don't spell rumour properly.
- antifreeze11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7nothing pisses me off more than hearing actual Canadians call Canada canadia, but this canukistan is even worse.
- craftyshrew, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I asked Rogers about their plans to offer the iPhone and this was their responses:
"In your recent e-mail you have informed us that you want to know when
we're offering the Apple iPhone.
We are unable to offer you this phone at this time. However, we will
forward this to our marketing department to consider for future sale.
If you want to purchase an Apple iPhone from some place other than
Rogers and want to then use it on our network; you can. It must be able
to operate on either an 850 and/or 1900 MHz GSM frequency and be
unlocked; the seller will know what you're asking. Please note that we
can only guarantee a voice services on a phone that has been purchased
from anywhere other than Rogers Wireless. We will only know if it can
use data functions, such as text messaging, when it's activated. Please
bring it to a store to have it activated. To
find a store please visit Rogers.com,
www.shoprogers.com/store/wireless/overview.asp and click on
FIND A STORE."
So, if we can find a wealthy enough person to sign up for a whole bunch of two year contracts with Cingular then sell them on eBay...we're in business. I don't think the "visual voice mail" will work though as this is an adjustment that Rogers will have to make on their voice system. - KraigR, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5RE: sishgupta
Yeah, Rogers is crazy. I should know, my cousin works at the Skydome. I am totally with you on not calling it the "Rogers Centre". - Cannon13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Some VoIP blogger?
I think I'll wait for the psychic and the magic eight ball to confirm before making the t-shirts. - GerryDaman, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Fido is owned by Rogers...
- BigEasy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Wake me up when we get TV/Movies, like the description says, then I'll turn my head and take notice.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2At least you Canadians have Colbert.
- sishgupta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2sorry, wrong reply
- Nevrast, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2If Rogers doesn't already know that there's significant interest in the iPhone then
a) an email campaign isn't going to knock sense into them
and
b) they're idiots. - robertscales, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2yeah! but as a former Fido employee all i can say is "I'll believe it when i have it in my hand!"
Most canadian carriers know what new phone models they plan on introducing to their market well in advance (9-12 months ahead of release and up to 12 months after the device was released and tested in other world markets). If Rogers had anything solid to offer they would have made an official announcement!
As for the visual voicemail, those are changes that can easily be done if Rogers sees the value in that! Various other GSM providers offer this in Europe and other location in the world..
Oh and for the record, Fido now own by Rogers was the first GSM provider in Canada and most of the network used by Rogers was build by fido... So if you are a fido client and you can get you hand on a unlock iPhone... you're in business.. - idean360, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I hope they can get it out as soon as the US launch, it would be easier that going to buffalo and getting one....
- kriskrug, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Would be nice... I'm skeptical it will happen in 2007 though.
- idean360, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I say we band together and try and all send them an email to show our interest...
whats their email address for things like this? - Inspiron700m, on 12/17/2007, -0/+1www.iphoneincanada.ca has news about the iPhone's release...
- DarkDakota, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Speculation Speculation, I'll just wait and hope like everyone else (that wants one). the Rogers connection makes sense, but until someone actually owns one, Canadian or US. I'll just be saying the same thing as many, "man that looks cool!!"
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was hoping for Telus, considering they're who I'm currently with...
- blcarmadillo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This doesn't really surprise me. I have Cingular wireless and up at my cottage (which is on Lake Huron) I pick up Rogers cell service from Canada. So they must have similar systems and some sort of deal with Cingular that allows Cingular members to use their systems.
- DarkDakota, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I don't get it, what do you mean? that guy is Americian. I love the show but . . ??
- himpster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1With Telus launching Amp'd Canada, and Bell in bed with Virgin Mobile, one has to wonder if Rogers won't relaunch the Fido service using iPhone as the key selling point... would definately give the Fido division a bump in subscribers.
- jfpilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I heard a comment from a CBC producer stating that he knew for a fact they were currently already testing it in the grater Montreal region!
- chesterton, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1This will be a in-demand item. Rogers is a business and so long as interest translates into sales, they will carry the phone.
- inf3kt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1They renamed our arena from the Victoria Memorial Arena to the Save on Foods Center.. Canada can be fickle.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1The Colbert Report is syndicated to Canada. Colbert made a big deal about it on his show some months back.
- seitanguy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Fido is GSM too.
- hadimirza, on 03/26/2008, -1/+1Ahhh!! Canada has always brought things late for me....:(
- blogspinner, on 10/12/2007, -5/+1Some VoIP blogger wrote that the iPhone won't come to Canada until very late 2008. That's pretty close to two years.
