Rumor: New MacBooks before the holidays

tuaw.com — Switch to a Mac has performed the old Macrumors trick of predicting Apple releases based on when the product was last updated, and according to their research, we're supposed to see new MacBooks and MacBook Pros before the holidays.

This is just conjecture or speculation, based on analyzing release cycles. It's like saying "RUMOR: Stock market due for correction" -- that is, it makes no sense.

I don't think apple wants people that bought macbooks on leopard to return it for the new model. They will wait at least two weeks. So either the 13th or the 20th. My money is on the 13th.
  • newbill123, on 10/31/2007, -0/+10Intel's Penryn is coming out Nov 11 in very constrained quantities. If Apple's able to get enough supply there will be machines that use them but Apple's "speed-bump only" updates have come out with comparatively little fanfare in the past.

    More logically though, all of the constrained Penryn chips Apple can get hold of will be going into a long overdue revision of the XServe and a marketing push that highlights Leopard Server features rather than just the speed boost. Even if portables can be engineered to use Penryn, the MacBooks and MacBook Pros will sell fine through Christmas without the bump.

      Personally, I've been waiting over a year for upgrades and Leopard for a Macbook (it isn't urgent though), so I would be heartbroken if I waited till MacWorld, the found out the new models were being released months from then! hehe

      Not because you hate Macs sean, just because you're a non-topic posting idiot.
      New MacBooks will most likely be released before the big Christmas rush. I doubt they'll do much with the iPhone prior to overseas release and won't touch the Touch since they were just released. Neither the MacBooks or MacBook Pros have had a significant upgrade in awhile. Looking forward to it to grab a MBP of the refurb list for a tasty 25-40% discount!

      The thing is, they pretty much release updated hardware every 6 months. So it's no brainer that in 3 months they'll release a new version. And then again and again and again.

      I personally find it pointless to sell a 3 month old MB only to get a small CPU upgrade knowing that in few more months, another upgrade will come out and another and another.

I just upgraded the internal hard drive to 250GB so, that should breathe new life into it for maybe another year or so. I highly recommend getting one. Get a black on though.... they just look better.

Save your money, get the white one, send it out to one of those shops that will paint it whatever color you want for near the same price if that's how you want to roll.
      I've never really cared one way or another what color my computer was, just so long as it works.

  • tlianza, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1These kinds of rumors beg the question: assuming Apple is tight-lipped about the hardware release schedules for fear of the Osborne effect, would they in fact be better served by being more transparent about their schedules than letting these rumor sites spread (mis)information? They are effectively getting hit by the Osbourne effect, and yet they have little control over it.
    • MacParrot, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1It's not really the Osbourne effect as it doesn't seem to hurt sales, but certainly gets some (not I) Maccers in a frenzy. I usually buy off the refurb list. Take a slight performance hit for a deep discount with the same warranty

  • iPhrankie, on 10/31/2007, -0/+1MacWorld is right around the corner. New Mac Pros will are a sure thing to be released. It's the only product that hasn't had a refresh in a long time. MacBook Pros were just updated to the Santa Rosa chipset. There is a chance that the regular MacBooks will get an update but not a major overhaul. Probably just an upgrade to the Santa Rosa chipset like the MBP.
