- fkr3, on 10/11/2007, -5/+16"Last week at D, Steve Jobs told Mossberg 3rd party apps would come later this year."
Thanks for spamming it into a rumour, gizhomos. - Mejogid, on 10/11/2007, -5/+15Yes, and in the case of Apple that spark is normally some rabid fan boy or a ***** blog.
- Talguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6The iphone will have added hardware just like the ipod has which takes advantage of its 30pin connector. there is going to be a lot of hardware for it after like 4 month of it being on the market.
- Aggaman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7"Yeah, I spent $600 on a phone so I could feel superior to those who can't. Please, come over here and ogle my phone and covet it so I can feel better about my inadequacies through consumerism. A phone that makes calls wasn't enough, I needed a status icon in my pocket."
A few people may feel that way. You can comfort yourself by thinking that all people who buy Apple products are like this, but of course it is not true. People will buy the iPhone because it has made other phones obsolete in terms of ease of use. I have Samsung's latest Windows Mobile smartphone. It might as well be steam powered next to the iPhone.
Smart users will wait until the fuss and the price dies down. - Quix, on 10/11/2007, -1/+6Heh, flag564 (and his newest troll-in-training fkr3) is still in denial over the iPhone. He still can't come to grips with the fact that 1) it truly exists, 2) the interface looks better than any other cell phone out there (by far), and 3) that it will be huge.
The night of June 28th flag564 will soak his pillow with his hater tears. - Kles, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8Oh good. I've always wanted to run Toast on a phone.
- lepton, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Ever get near a WiFi hotspot? They are common nowadays..
- Jakerius, on 10/11/2007, -9/+13This would be amazing... if it were true.
- fkr3, on 10/11/2007, -5/+9No, the sad thing is crap like this is supposed to be some form of new media "reporting". We make these ***** blogs into popular sites by absorbing their regurgitated content, their suppositions and most importantly to them their advertising.
We've fueled an industry where some retard can create a blog, skim a few rss feeds, summarise other people's ***** or just make it up, and then we all get to sit around calling it news, reporting and discuss how the new media is so much cooler and better than the real media, which writes, edits and researches their stuff in most cases.
It's spam, it's ***** and it's boring. - Antialias, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3bluetooth?

"Other than their iPod they havent had a sales hit in years.
OSX?
AppleTV?
Hi-Fi Boombox?
Macs?
Which one of these have ever out sold their competitors?
A: None"
How many times do people have to point out to you that Apple is in direct competition in a very fractured market against companies like Dell, HP, Sony, Toshiba... There is no "Windows vs. Mac", it's everyone for themselves. While Apple may not outsell HP, it does outsell Acer, Gateway, Toshiba, Sony and every single little house-brand PC out there.
Apple is the #5 computer manufacturer in North America. I'd hardly call that a failure; especially when Sony is considered a success in the same market and it's sales fall far short of Apples.
As for the success of AppleTV... Weren't you the one saying that "apple fanboys" were being unfair in judging the Zune a failure when it had only been out a short while, and that overall sales were what mattered? I guess that logic only applies when it's NOT Apple, huh? No, you're not biased against apple at all, Flag. Wishing doesn't make it true; neither does hypocrisy, ignorance and arrogance.
"In terms of fanboy hype, they may be "on a roll", but reality just keeps getting in the way."
The reality of what? Recently being admitted into the S&P 100? Having a market cap of over 100 billion dollars? The highest sales growth in the market while much of the competition remains stagnant or even shrinking (like Dell)? These aren't old news or anything, these are all recent events (within the last two months).
Yeah, definitely a rough position to be in. Might as well close down Apple right now!
Seriously, are you that deluded that you ignore the actual physical numbers from trusted banks and stock organizations? These aren't speculation, rumor or bs; these are hard numbers showing Apple is a success; a level of success unseen in a very, very long time; one that market analysts don't expect to die off any time soon.
The reality here is your inability to be anything but completely biased against Apple, while claiming to be the voice of fairness, reason and justice. Apple is doing very well and are here to stay.
Get over it and move on, flag. - dancallahan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3You're gonna have to wait five years at least for a CDMA/EVDO iPhone, since AT&T has an exclusive for that long.
- farnazn, on 10/11/2007, -4/+6Old persian saying: "rumors are like fires, there has to be a spark to start them"
- fuzzmeister, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Since AT&T's 3G network is quite subpar at the moment, it is probably a good thing that the iPhone is EDGE (2.75G).
- tehpyro, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5THE APP IS SKYPE DAMNIT!! SKYPE!
- UMDWei, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2On top of everything else, it makes a good paper weight too. Best. Phone. Ever.
- fkr3, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I'm not against the iPhone, I want one when they come up with a bigger size than 8gb and no contract.
I'm against spam blogs regurgitating other news or just plain making it up so they can game digg for an extra 50,000 ad impressions. - crammaz, on 10/11/2007, -14/+15QUICK QUICK DIGG IT DIGG IT
(Caps lock aka cruise control for awesome) - BLAM8, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2fkr3, lighten up. It's only gadget news. Why does it make you so mad?
- fucayama, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1mobile kismac ftw!
- GoatMonkey2112, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Google maps and GPS are not the same thing. I suppose they could add that stuff with Bluetooth though. Someone needs to get to work on it.
- SVPirate, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh please... They'd never let this happen in a million years. They got all pointy about not allowing 3rd party development straight away, and also have repeatedly said they want to keep strict control of what's on the phone. They'd never lets a 3rd party handle the SDK - that'd commit corporate suicide on both notions.
- milkmage, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3@mejogid:
here's the link to some ***** blog
http://www.nytimes.com/2007/06/04/technology/04iphone.html?ex=1338609600&en=07c94d7d88de0857&ei=5090&partner=rssuserland&emc=rss - superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I'm pretty sure it's the ability to use Dashcode to develop for the iPhone.
But honestly, that covers a lot of space in terms of custom applications. Programming on the bare devices is nicer but if you can assume a network most of the time, you could develop a lot of really nice and useful Dashcode applications... - Mejogid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1@milkmage
I believe I said spark, not news coverage. - ilgaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1A Phone SDK ships to select companies (partners) 6 months before the actual phone so they can build/test their applications.
It could be Widget SDK which has really nothing to do with real 3rd party C++ apps. - haggie, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Wow, a cell phone with third party developer support! What crazy idea will Steve Jobs think of next???
Oh, wait. I've been running third party apps on my Treo for a couple of years now. Never mind. - Aggaman, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2"It will be iPhone backlash part 2."
Nope.
The iPhone will be a massive success and Apple will make a fortune. You will have to crawl back into your hole and gnaw your own arm off in frustration. For whatever reason, Apple is on a roll whether anyone likes it or not. - masskurec, on 03/01/2009, -0/+0this will be the death of apple
http://xptweak.net - TheRealDeal, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1The real outstanding question is...3rd party approved by Apple apps OR 3rd party anyone can develop and deploy apps. I am hoping for the latter. I just want to develop for MY iPhone!!
- LoooongCat, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0Anyone aware on the homebrew status of the iPhone?
I'd rather have that, than pay for someones 'small program'. - iwanttodiggthis, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1This truly is fantastic news. The iPhone will be everything I want it to be and more.
- GadgetMonster, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0GPS... check out the Calamari ad at apple.com/iphone/ads/
- GoatMonkey2112, on 10/11/2007, -3/+1The iPhone needs a way to add hardware to is also. Like a GPS receiver and satellite radio receiver.
- flag564, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1The iPhone will be a massive success and Apple will make a fortune.
That's what you guys said about the AppleTV.
"For whatever reason, Apple is on a roll whether anyone likes it or not."
Roll?
Other than their iPod they havent had a sales hit in years.
OSX?
AppleTV?
Hi-Fi Boombox?
Macs?
Which one of these have ever out sold their competitors?
A: None
In terms of fanboy hype, they may be "on a roll", but reality just keeps getting in the way. - mobilehavoc, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1But, but...I thought King Jobs said that having 3rd party apps on the iPhone was dangerous because it could bring down the entire Cingular/AT&T network!!!!!??!
- halik, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1Cool if it turns out true, but I still won't be getting iPhone anytime soon - EDGE is just too slow for doing anything worthwhile. (I have both the blackberry and treo 700p, the former is just aweful for web-anything). I'll wait for 2nd gen of the device - EVDO, no wifi - it's useless with EVDO, physical keyboard, the same form factor and compatible with sprint (SERO plan FTW... 500 anytime mins, *everything* else unlimited for $30/mo)
- ripple123, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1WWDC? What Would the Devil Code?
/badumpssh - farnazn, on 10/11/2007, -7/+2SWEET!
- totallyAMAZING, on 10/11/2007, -12/+4What's going to be AMAZING will be that everyone is going to run out and try to spend $600 on a PHONE. What's going to be better is the buyer's remorse when everyone realizes it's a phone and not actually the second coming of Christ.
I hope it comes with a shirt that says:
"Yeah, I spent $600 on a phone so I could feel superior to those who can't. Please, come over here and ogle my phone and covet it so I can feel better about my inadequacies through consumerism. A phone that makes calls wasn't enough, I needed a status icon in my pocket."
This kind of feels like when Napster came out and all the drones were like, "Oh, you can download music off the Internet?" And we responded, "Yeah, you've been able to do that for a while, it just wasn't dumbed down enough for you, apparently."
So I'm glad they've dumbed a phone down enough for you all, so you can finally decipher the mysterious "TALK" and "END" buttons for a measly $600. Now why don't you go rage about how expensive the PS3 is... - flag564, on 10/11/2007, -16/+3Be prepaired, folks.
These guys are going to spam Digg with iPhone nonsense all the way until early July.
The sad thing is that they think they are astroturfing for it when in fact they will make people even more sick of hearing about this as they have been the past few months.
It will be iPhone backlash part 2.

What is Digg?
