- ssquared22, on 07/06/2009, -1/+27I'm holding out for the Hovercraft
- abird, on 07/06/2009, -1/+16And people complain about the battery now...
- Braxo, on 07/06/2009, -2/+12Apple won't add background applications because of battery drain. People think the next iPhone model will include a video projector?
- digitalpencil, on 07/06/2009, -2/+12doubtful in the short-term given the footprint of Samsung's first device, especially when you consider Apple's stripping the battery down to size to accommodate the increased component size in the 3GS.
Put simply, there just isn't enough space for a projector, micro or not. It would be quite cool to see one introduced as a 3rd party device, connecting to the iPod connector though. Still, i wouldn't expect to see one integrated into the iPhone casing any time soon. - robbh66, on 07/06/2009, -0/+8This is so someone trying to get hits by making up a story.
- Dtopler, on 07/06/2009, -0/+7This rumor comes from DigiTimes. Has DigiTimes EVER gotten an Apple rumor right? I remember them years back making tons of hype about the PowerBook G5...
- Pinkertinkle, on 07/06/2009, -3/+10that would be epic useless, apple will not do this
- krisrm, on 07/06/2009, -0/+7Yes, that would *definitely* improve battery life...
- ScottKritz, on 07/06/2009, -0/+6I have a feeling we'll be seeing video conferencing capabilities in our iPhones well before we have projectors in them. That's just my hunch, anyway . . . .
- l800LEMMINGS, on 07/06/2009, -7/+13maybe they should come out with a camera in the front like we've been asking for for years, instead
- Daniel591992, on 07/06/2009, -0/+5Nope...
- Qumahlin, on 07/06/2009, -4/+9Which would be nice for the small amount of people that actually want a camera on front. God forbid the "must take emo pic of myself" crowd is unhappy with not being able to get a clear shot from the camera.
I would take a dedicated camera button over a front facing camera. - dafragsta, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4First app out: "Help me Obiwan Kenobi. You're my only hope."
- PotentPotables, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4It didn't take long for the new iPhone rumors to begin again.
- SamIAre, on 07/06/2009, -0/+4Completely agree. If it happens I'll eat an iPhone.
- gimmeslack12, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3I think video conferencing on a cell phone is a retarded idea. Just like a video phone (i.e. land line) is a retarded idea.
You think talking on the phone while driving is dumb/dangerous? Now imagine people trying to look at their phone while doing it. - Angostura, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3The difference is - it's not always apparent to the end user when an application is active in background, using battery life.
Whereas, subtle visual cues tell the user when the machine is projecting video footage across a large expanse of stucco. - suprememilo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3No. Apple doesn't release unpolished tech.
- imikedaman, on 07/06/2009, -2/+5Videoconferencing.
- konzer, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3You mean something like this: http://gizmodo.com/5302942/mili-pro-turns-your-iph ...
- MaxMWood, on 07/06/2009, -0/+3I'm holding out for the Hoverboard
- Snoogs, on 07/06/2009, -1/+4Um... a simple *video out* jack would solve this instantly... you're not going to be anywhere that doesn't have a tv or computer monitor to display your videos... or even develop streaming bluetooth transfer of videos to the computer. The projector idea is a total joke.
I would like to see the 'through-screen' camera idea I keep hearing about however. - FallenTurtles, on 07/06/2009, -1/+3Joy. Now we can all see what wonderful content all the iPhone users are looking at.
"Wow! You're checking your Gmail. AGAIN!" - PicklePower, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2I don't think they'll do it. At this point in time those mini projectors just aren't good enough (they're not bright, not a great picture...). And Apple won't do something unless they are able to do it perfectly. Also, it would be a huge drain on the battery. And if a movie were to be projected, what about the sound? How would one prop up the phone properly to project onto a wall? If someone were to just hold it, the picture would have to be focused constantly. Too many problems already, and it just doesn't seem practical to begin with.
- superkendall, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Yeah right.
- Qumahlin, on 07/06/2009, -1/+3You mean like it already has? You can hook your iphone up to an external video source, the control to turn it on is under the ipod settings menu.
- robbh66, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2In a smartphone that already has as much power and ***** packed into it as the iPhone?
Not likely. - FoxOrian, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2Maybe Apple is trying to actually make the Pomegranate phone?
Next feature after that would totally be the coffee brewing. - chadillak, on 07/06/2009, -0/+2I've heard about them doing this with the iPod every year for the past 5 years. ***** indeed.
- thcobbs, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Not really. A guy at my work saw something very similar at an emerging tech conference.
- blackinthmiddle, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Uh, no! How many lumens do you think is necessary to project a decent size image (say 19") onto a surface? Next, how much power would be necessary to drive a device that could do that? If it were to be implemented on the iPhone, the picture would probably be tiny and so washed out due to the lack of lumens you could barely see it.
Look, I'm all for carrying as few devices as possible. I love the fact that I can browse the web, make phone calls, view video, take pictures and video, etc., all on one device. However, at some point you have to recognize that if you want to keep the device as small as you'd expect from a phone, you simply don't have enough space neither for the hardware required nor the battery to power said hardware. - DemiRonin, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1End of 2009 ...ya right
- wh3873, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I instantly tried to buy that and figured out that it's coming out in September.
- slapded, on 07/06/2009, -1/+2PFFT. i build my own. sent away for instructions back in the 70's
- Typographreak, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I predict a new wave of uncouth crimes, teenagers projecting weird porn on to city walls and such. Oh man.
- deeboe, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1...or the Mpro: http://www.3m.com/mpro/
- Zippo, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Unlikely... until micro projectors become even a fraction as good as fully-sized ones, this would be a poor-quality (and still very expensive) novelty... and with little real application. Not to mention how quickly this would destroy battery life.
Doesn't really seem like something Apple would do. - kmg90, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Seriously thought this was The Onion when I read it on Google Reader
- Spire3660, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Wouldnt we see micro projectors on laptops and netbooks first?? Something that can house and power more then a 10 lumen emitter.
- danwallace, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Considering it would take a lot more power to project an image on a wall than it does to backlight an lcd screen, yes it would.
- s4g4n, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1People will use their iphones as flash lights at night.
- Dragonteen17, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Wasn't this said at the live diggnation in new york as a joke?
- ohplease, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1The projector works for about 20 seconds until your battery falls off the device and explodes like a claymore.
- empath, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1It'd be cool if it were this projector:
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=nTJChzivfw8&fea ... - deanrows, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Buried for EPIC FAIL.
- Xplorer, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1Someone doesn't get it...
Those emo kids will just use a mirror like always... - moskrin, on 07/07/2009, -0/+1... cuz that won't be annoying at ALL
- spokenrope, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1I wish people would quit saying this; a front facing camera is a terrible idea. You would use it for 5 phone calls, then realize "Oh man. I need to hold my hand super steady for the entire length of this phone call in order to not make the person on the other end sick. This is totally not worthwhile."
- Xplorer, on 07/06/2009, -0/+1The Johnson Smith Company would like to thank you for being the single hand to fund our projects!
