- ridestp, on 10/30/2007, -9/+67Wow, this is so Digg front page worthy!
- neosublime, on 10/30/2007, -1/+55is there a way to...
ln -s (my current desktop picture) /System/Library/CoreServices/DefaultDesktop.jpg
This way your login screen will always reflect your current Desktop Picture. Then this would be a super tip. - mishsquish, on 11/02/2007, -6/+35It's alright, I'm sure you'll cope with not being able to change the login screen background. After all, you see it for a combined total of like 17 seconds a year.
- dan00b, on 10/30/2007, -2/+18Congratulations. Welcome to OS X 10.0. In other news, the Y2K bug had little to no effect on computer systems worldwide.
- DaffyDuck, on 10/30/2007, -4/+19Got to agree with your sarcasm here. It's kinda stupid that this is on the front page. My guess is a lot of Leopard users are digging it as a bookmark to come back to later so they can try it out.
- GeekSwag, on 10/30/2007, -20/+35My Vista CD makes a fantastic beer coaster!
-Ex Vista user - ozroy, on 10/30/2007, -1/+13Another way without renaming any files is to do this
$ sudo -i
$ defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow DesktopPicture '/path/to//image.jpg' - eviltuxking, on 10/30/2007, -3/+15Maybe you could make a cron script or apple script to update the link for you.
- SamuelDr2, on 10/30/2007, -1/+11And you can change the login background in vista here http://www.stardock.com/products/logonstudio/
and it's even free!
(I am not affiliated to stardock) - mwosh, on 10/30/2007, -3/+12I don't really understand why people say something like "this isn't frontpage worthy". Obviously enough people thought it WAS frontpage worthy, because they dugg it.
So please people, next time you see a story with X Hundred diggs and it glances by your front page, if you don't care about it just don't click. Its not that big of a deal. I don't care to hear your opinion on whether or not this should have as many diggs as it does. - Jibberwalk, on 10/30/2007, -5/+14That's a blatant fallacy and you know it. I can leave my desktop (Vista) on for days without any memory leaks or crashes. The same can be said for my laptop (XP). Sure, the uptime can't compare to the uptime of a GNU/Linux distro... but it's nowhere near what you describe. You're just one of the many folks who thinks it's awesome to jump on the anti-Windows bandwagon, not caring at all what foundations your claims rest on.
- gleapsite, on 10/29/2007, -0/+8If you're only running 10.4 like me than you can change /Library/Desktop Pictures/Aqua Blue.jpg to whatever you want the logon background to be.

- djpants428, on 10/30/2007, -1/+8you could probably set up a script to read the relevant path from your /Library/Preferences/com.apple.desktop.plist file and symlink it. If it's stored in a standard text file like that you should be able to read the correct lines and output them
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -5/+12Huh? I've seen it once right after I installed it for the first time some 9 months ago.
- Ocelot13, on 10/30/2007, -1/+8if you get back with her itll change from your ex girlfriend to your current girlfriend.
- shadowie, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7Here you go
http://www.flickr.com/photo_zoom.gne?id=510672745& ... - SlipstreamLucas, on 10/30/2007, -1/+8oh...really? so you telling me if spent the last 7 years with my overclocked celeron 300A turned off playing it safe for nothing???
- gregulate, on 10/29/2007, -1/+7can you do this in earlier versions like tiger?
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6yes, but it's called aquablue.jpg
(it also might be located somewhere else though...) - Aetherine, on 11/06/2007, -2/+7I shut down my computer for the first time in four weeks just an hour ago.
Srsly, Vista isn't that bad. Maybe I'm not "omfg teh powar usar" or something here, but it I haven't had a problem yet. - xenixninja, on 10/29/2007, -1/+6Is this really front page worthy? A simple thing like changing the wallpaper of your login screen?
- JNudda, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5http://www.stardock.com/products/logonstudio/
- DaffyDuck, on 10/29/2007, -0/+5Seek help.
- SlipstreamLucas, on 10/30/2007, -1/+6upcoming: how to add custom text to your screen saver !!
- PricklySponge, on 10/29/2007, -2/+6Most of the benefits of Leopard are things that have been present in Linux for years
- FHKE, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4I am shocked because my flickr page (YES, THIS ONE; POSTED BY ME ON FLICKR) shows up on digg front page.
The only reason that I could think about is that everyone hate the default Aurora.jpg and they want to change it! (sarcasm) - xenixninja, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Uhm, yeah.
/Library/Desktop Pictures/Aqua Blue.jpg
Easy. - inactive, on 10/30/2007, -1/+5Maybe they don't like leaving computers running for no reason.
- denislemire, on 10/30/2007, -3/+6A much better solution would simply to run the following as root via the Terminal:
defaults write /Library/Preferences/com.apple.loginwindow DesktopPicture '/Users/denis/Pictures/Wallpaper/modis_wonderglobe_lrg.jpg' - jackcrack7, on 10/29/2007, -1/+4You don't understand. This is new to the Mac Cult.
- Shaman760, on 10/29/2007, -1/+4Thanks for that!! I put that French Nuke test pic that was here a few weeks back.
- NeoRicen, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3Doesn't work, the log in screen isn't referencing that file.
- jackcrack7, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3You want an OS because it lets you change your background? That is so 1995.
- cyberdork33, on 10/30/2007, -0/+3This doesn't work for me in Leopard. It just causes a plain blue background to show. Editing the plist back to normal changes everything to the way it was.
- mentor972, on 10/29/2007, -0/+3Nice, but not worthy of exclamation points.
- suprxtragrav, on 12/09/2008, -1/+4my computer which runs vista has been on for 10 days straight (@systeminfo)
- cyberdash, on 11/04/2007, -4/+7I heard that you could change the desktop picture too. Amazing technology, hey?
- supremebeing18, on 10/30/2007, -1/+4yes.
- kreatre2007, on 10/30/2007, -0/+2That's what I did but, some people don't have the confidence in using the command line.
- Rotzooi, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2STUNNING!!!!!!
- vj8usa, on 10/29/2007, -1/+3Actually, you can use a freeware utility called resourcehacker to change Vista's login screen. It's not quite as simple as just changing a file, but it's damn close.
- inactive, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2Exactly!
By the way, has the Gnome/KDE thing been sorted out yet? It's been, like, 10 years. - andyakadum, on 10/29/2007, -0/+2Ubuntu ftw?
- Ryan001, on 10/29/2007, -1/+3Well that path doesn't even exist of my Mac (running 10.5)
- coreyb, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1Right, but the question is does your operating system get viruses/spyware/etc...
/my daddy is bigger than your daddy conversation - cmgriffi, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1I might be retarded but how do you do this
- cdiggy, on 10/30/2007, -0/+1ok Digg content overlord powermaster....
- DoobieWheel, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1Any way to do it on Windows?
- kajoob, on 10/29/2007, -0/+1I must have missed that pic, you got a URL for it?
