- IamNomad, on 01/08/2009, -2/+15Openbox IPHONE .. i wonder how long we hear about the phone not being cleared properly and users pornographic self pics end up online ?
- Bloake, on 01/07/2009, -0/+12What's the word on warranty? Applecare?
- badqat, on 01/08/2009, -0/+91 year out of the box. Applecare is the same price as always.
- arrenlex, on 01/10/2009, -0/+6What do you mean by "if you know what I mean"? Is 'jailbreak it and use it with t-mobile' some kind of euphemism for sex?
- BossKey, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6If "Refurbished" really means Apple Refurbished, the word has a very different meaning than "Open Box."
Apple Refurbished - Completely inspected and restored to factory specs with full warranty and support. See quote below. If iPhones are Apple Refurbished, they oughta be pretty clean.
Open Box - a simple customer return. May not be inspected at all. You really don't know what you're getting...especially at Beast Buy.
From Apple.com:
-------------------
Each Apple Certified Refurbished Product:
is fully tested (including full burn-in testing).
is refurbished with replacement parts for any defective modules identified in testing.
is put through a thorough cleaning process and inspection.
is repackaged (including appropriate manuals, cables, new boxes, etc.).
includes the operating software originally shipped with the unit and the custom software offered with that system. See each products "Learn More" for more details.
is given a new refurbished part number and serial number.
is placed into a Final QA inspection prior to being added to sellable refurbished stock.
------------------- - superkendall, on 01/09/2009, -0/+6Right now, they've already unlocked them (hackers that is).
- ncapone, on 01/09/2009, -1/+7One day they'll end their contract with AT&T…
I would like one but I'm not willing to pay hundreds extra from eBay or something. - MikeMitchell, on 01/09/2009, -3/+9every refurbished thing i have ever bought turned out to be complete CRAP....
they fix the "problem" clean it up...and ship it out...only to have the problem happen again... - BossKey, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5New is nice, but I've been buying refurbished Macs for a while and the only noticeable difference is that the other guy paid more than I did.
- Atsumori, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5I would too, but for some people they don't have they extra $100. That and for some people it's more economical and wise to save 100, then to spend it on the idea that nobody else has used it.
- Scira, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5no, what do you mean?
- ClevelandBrown, on 01/09/2009, -0/+5Best equation I've seen on here.
- RadiatedAnt, on 01/09/2009, -4/+8stop being lazy...
- SouthsideIrish, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4Seriously, how can you be using a 3g iPhone on TMobile, when TMobile uses 2100 down and 1700 up? The iPhone on the other hand only has 850, 1900, and 2100, so it would seem that you would be missing the upload frequency. So, are you only using it on EDGE?
- nrox653, on 01/09/2009, -1/+5Buried for misuse of the word "gay".
- Kila, on 01/09/2009, -1/+5Yeah The Loophole here is that you can buy them CASH!!! shh don't tell Apple.
I bought one the other day. Best Part is no AT&T, I have T-Mobile company account.
I think since they are so new to Best Buy I walked up and pulled out cash paid in full, No AT&T mumbojumbo
I love these new 3G phones got an 8GB model $149 cash no AT&T call quality is great. - BossKey, on 01/09/2009, -0/+4Refurbished Apple products are actually not crap. My friends and I have been buying refurbished Macs with no ill effects. See the Apple Refurbished quote in my first earlier post.
- tnoy, on 01/09/2009, -1/+5I'd like to know why there are enough returned iPhones to warrant selling all of them off as refurbished at various best buy locations.
- inactive, on 01/07/2009, -9/+12Inform me when it's available for tMobile users....
- species, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3I had problems with my 2g iphone and took it to an apple store and received a refurbished one to replace it. I have had really good luck with it.
- superkendall, on 01/09/2009, -1/+4But at least with Apple gear you can get it serviced at an Apple store and not at Best Buy.
Otherwise I'd agree with you. - TheHayze, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3That was what I was wondering. If we can get it for "at home" activation, I think I may sell off my ipod, and my current phone, and get a iphone. Then jailbreak, and use my current simcard with tmobile.
- ToddIU03, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Talked to a rep when I got my phone replaced. Refurbs have to be tested, new phones do not, so refurbs are better.
- Philbert, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3I normally would agree but I bought a refurbished MX Revolution mouse by accident (it said "refurbished " in small print at the bottom of a looong page about the features) and it's worked great for over a year, aside from Logitech's crappy SetPoint software, but that's not related. So I got a great mouse for half price ($50)
On the other hand I had to exchange my G2 iPhone twice in the year that I've had it, I wanted to exchange it a third time because part of my screen is going dead, but my year warranty ran out. - pandikukka, on 01/09/2009, -6/+9Can I get it w/o AT&T. then I will take it
- h0mi, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3How did activation of the phone work? i've got a 2g iphone and this would make for an easy, cheap upgrade.
- SouthsideIrish, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Only available on EDGE on TMobile since they use 2100 to download and the iPhone doesn't have that frequency.
- likwidfuzion, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Apple's refurbs are essentially new. The external casing (i.e. everything that you can see/touch on the phone) is all replaced and/or new. The only thing that may not be new is the internal hardware.
- superkendall, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3When you plug in a new phone it'll ask you if you have an existing account to use. The upgrade is really simple.
- MavRevMatt, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Really? All the refurb stuff I've ever bought has been great, especially for the price. Might have some scratches or dents in it, but I've never had a complete failure.
- superkendall, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3Nope, Apple handles all the support.
- Daryl209, on 01/09/2009, -1/+4I have to agree with roxgod666. It is a shame Circuit City is going away, I worked there for 4 years and loved it. And shopped at my local store for years until it closed. I can't stand 5 minutes inside of a Best Buy.
- superkendall, on 01/09/2009, -0/+3That's why you should always buy Applecare for portable/mobile devices...
- superkendall, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Me too but it's pretty tempting to get the 16GB version for less.
- ZombieSociety, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3And this is a bunch of extra words for "***** duh."
- coldkill3r, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3Fry's ftw.
- roxgod666, on 01/09/2009, -3/+5Circuit City is or was a hell of a lot better than Best Buy. They gave a lot better offers and way more sales. They used to give out a gift card just for buying a certain game there. And how is the xbox bad in any way?
- sgvprelude, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3I don't want a damn plan. I want to jailbreak it and use it with T-mobile if you know what I mean.
- cadmiumpaint, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3not always returns, they could be store demo models...
- jcaino, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2You mean Best Buy doesn't try to push their PSP/PRP's on you for the iPhone?
- wrathofg0d, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Just called two of my local Best Buys with mobile stores in Orange County, CA. They don't have them in yet but they're expecting them soon, and they said even the refurbished ones must be purchased with a plan :( . I was of course expecting it to be that way, but I still got my hopes up.
- spookyluke, on 01/09/2009, -1/+3I question the validity of this comment. Why was it necessary to mention "no AT&T" three times?
- eropuri, on 01/10/2009, -0/+2http://www.t-mobile.de/iphone/tarife/0,17181,21410 ...
QED. - darkism, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Do they check your upgrade eligibility at the counter?
If I'm not eligible could I still buy a refurb for the regular rate, take it home and add it to my plan?
No way in hell I'm paying $500 for a phone everyone else gets for $300. - inactive, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2Would this work for an non-iphone user already on ATT, or would I need to unlock it first. I have a killer corporate discount with unlimited text/data and don't want to have to pay extra for the iphone plan.
- ZombieSociety, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2It kind of always has been. Way to stay on top of things.
- Philbert, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2I had never even heard of apple care until just recently. Nobody said a word about it at the AT&T store where I got my iPhone or at the apple store where I exchanged it.
- lestyoubejudged, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2I have had some of the worst customer service experiences ever with Circuit City and I am sooo glad they are biting the big one.
- Tbags, on 01/09/2009, -0/+2and I'm not willing to pay for that "iphone package" with the data plan that will kill you every time you think you're in wifi but you're not
