- inactive, on 11/06/2008, -0/+42It's a shame there's no real development going on for Quicksilver anymore.
- Leakey, on 11/06/2008, -2/+31Quicksilver really is an hugely effective tool. I would love to see Apple bring it on and integrate it as part of OS X.
- burrgrinder, on 11/06/2008, -0/+15Quicksilver came before Katapult anyways.
- jonsterling, on 11/07/2008, -0/+13Katapult is like Quicksilver on muscle relaxants.
- NewSearchEngine, on 11/06/2008, -0/+9I have used this for a few weeks since I bought the new MacBook, really love it.
- directive0, on 11/06/2008, -0/+8Just wanted to chime in here that Quicksilver is the first thing I install on any of my office or home Macs. Wish there was more happening with it, but it still rules.
Thank you Blacktree! - exscape, on 11/06/2008, -0/+8You really can't compare the two. Spotlight finds files, dictionary items and calculates numbers.
I use Quicksilver to add iCal items, create iTunes playlists from tags, start composing emails, give iTunes global hotkeys, search through del.icio.us bookmarks, etc etc. Google for a few quicksilver guides and you'll soon realize that spotlight is pretty basic. - tbhurst, on 11/06/2008, -1/+7Thanks!

- bbardlbradd, on 11/06/2008, -0/+6Anyone have a mirror?
- atmclipse, on 11/06/2008, -0/+6Here it is. As well as bezelHUD and silverflow.
http://www.julius-eckert.com/category/view/2 - Pelikoira, on 11/06/2008, -2/+7Quicksilver is like KDE's katapult on steroids.
- Harrison88, on 11/06/2008, -1/+6Can anyone link to an article which shows the advantages Quicksilver has over Spotlight? I realise you can create events in Quiksilver and shortcut your way to them via that but creating events takes time. I'm not too lazy to move my mouse and do whatever the shortcut was going to do for me.
- bsloane, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4Does anybody know where to find the showcase interface for quicksilver? The original site with it seems to be non-existent.
- BossKey, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4Actually, Spotlight learns and ranks your searches too. Over time, it's learned my preferences for my single-key searches.
Quicksilver is more intelligent; it recognizes more patterns and can be faster, although Spotlight is just fine in Leopard. But Spotlight is not lacking the learned rank features. - tastypaste, on 11/06/2008, -0/+4Quicksilver is lightning fast. I can launch a program in Quicksilver before Spotlight has even begun to return results for a search. And the hotkeys are great too. I have all my favorite programs and actions in iTunes tied to Quicksilver hotkeys.
There are many guides for Quicksilver on their website. It is an insanely powerful program because if you know how, you can do just about anything with it. - burrgrinder, on 11/06/2008, -1/+5If all you're doing is using it as a program launcher, your main benefit is that Quicksilver is faster than Spotlight, and it can return only programs instead of using the entire index of your computer.
Additionally, Quicksilver "learns", or ranks, your searches. The more you type "fire" to launch firefox, the higher in rank it becomes, such that eventually, if firefox is your most launched "f" category program, simply typing f+enter will launch it, whereas Spotlight will list all "f"s according to alphabetic order. - barfooz, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3Because Spotlight is slow, period.
- cashless, on 11/06/2008, -4/+7More like Quit Server tricks...
- madskjaer, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3I've had trouble finding it, too. Fortunately, I already have it installed.
- burrgrinder, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3Spotlight is slow if you've got a ton of things on your computer.
- mrBitch, on 11/07/2008, -0/+3I used to LOVE launchy, but after using Quicksilver once I bought a MacBook... You suddenly realise that launchy is the retarded cousin of Quicksilver.
- wiihuck, on 11/06/2008, -0/+3If you like Quicksilver, give Gnome Do a shot on Linux.
- MtheoryX, on 11/07/2008, -0/+2Because there's much, much more that QS can do?
Launching apps is just the tip of the icerberg...and QS even does that better than SpotLight.
So...why the ***** not? - tastypaste, on 11/06/2008, -1/+3They really should. They bought CoverFlow and integrated that into OS X. Quicksilver is far more useful and it's a lot faster than Apple's own Spotlight, has more features too.
- Kakcoo, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2Same issue here. madskjaer, I dugg you. Now, you help us!
- apersaud, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2Here are the cool Quicksilver Skins who's links in the article are broken:
http://www.julius-eckert.com/category/view/2 - guice, on 11/07/2008, -0/+2Actually, KDE's katapult is like Quicksilver, just not as feature filled (since, as pointed out earlier, QS was first). Katapult is a QS implementation for KDE.
- fantasyflamz, on 11/06/2008, -1/+3Or launchy for windows.
- brendon2020, on 11/06/2008, -0/+2there is,
http://www.43folders.com/2008/07/08/quicksilver-up ... - fantasyflamz, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1But it's the best equivalent when u have windows.
- MtheoryX, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1I liked the music.
And I'm old.
GET OFF MY LAWN!! - MtheoryX, on 11/07/2008, -0/+1I hate chemistry geeks.
Just sayin'. - xiangxianni, on 02/20/2009, -0/+1I have used this for a few weeks since I bought the new MacBook, really love it.

- Skull0Inc, on 11/06/2008, -3/+1Why would you use another resource just to open applications when u can just use spotlight, using command spacebar to open a search window anywhere for an application?
- Primatelord, on 11/06/2008, -3/+1I read the title differently...
- PhattyPhattMatt, on 11/06/2008, -3/+1i have a few mirrors in my house and on my truck...
