No, logik, not everyone loves QT.
The only reason I had it installed, is that VLC isn't quite fast enough at decoding H.264 (even on my Athlon64 3500+). And the only reason I needed that was because of the high-def QT Serenity trailer.
Apple seems to assume that the only thing you'll ever want to do while QT is installing, is see the installer (It's full screen, and always-on-top, even it's background).
Admittedly, I haven't installed the new version yet (I'm at work, and this laptop runs slow enough without installing QT), but if the last several versions are anything to go by, They still haven't got that whole play-nicely-with-others thing right yet.
Plus, unless you're willing to fork out cash (or use an illegal key-generator) for the Pro version, you can't run videos in full-screen. Why should I have to fork out cash for this little extra bit of functionality? It's the only media app that I've ever seen that does something quite this daft.
Yes, this is a bit of a rant - but IMO, they're all perfectly valid points. - strangnet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1If you can't get iTunes in your preferred language (English) just remove all subdirectories except en.proj in the C:Program FilesiTunesiTunes.Resources directory.
- Mudcrutch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i hate how quicktime loads in taskbar and loads when windows starts.. i hate undoing crap like that..
- jelloworm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It actually is pretty slick the H.264 is awesome
- ace11, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YAY! I LOVE YOU QUICKTIME AND H.264.
- nymphetamine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0its about time it got released even though ive had it for a while now on my pc.
- lollerskates, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0YES, H264. Man, I was salivating over this ever since the Batman Begins H264 trailer I saw on my iBook.
- kryptogrowl, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0FINALLY
- Logik, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0what i find funny is that awhile back everyone dispised QT, now they love it. it's just a funny world we computer people live in i guess.
- KriLL3.2™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It does work on VLC. But it got a white stripe bellow the picture. It's odd but I really do like QT. Yes it's bloated but it does it's job well and looks nice at time same time. Same as iTunes I guess. Also odd is that VLC handle almost all formats but it chokes on most .WMV files... O_o I guess m$'s codecs aren't something they like to part with.
- KriLL3.2™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0This has been a good apple day.
iTunes 5 (Cant figure out how to change it to English.. even though I selected English through all options in the installs...)
Quicktime 7: Well I had the beta.. but this is cool anyway.
iPod nano: Nice, still wish they made a mid sized (iPod mini) colo(u)r screen with more space. I dont really want a smaller mp3 player than the mini. And a regular iPod/Photo is to big. - noclip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just download iTunes 5, it's bundled.
PS: Holy crap, H.264 encoding is at least 25% faster! - camtech, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0H.264 thats all... and thats A LOT!
- craigtheguru, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Finally, H.264 for all!
- BigBoogie, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"http://www.apple.com/quicktime/download/standalone.html"
Thank you. - SilentSpyder, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Heh, you cooky PC users.
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0standalone = not bundled with iTunes
- OandA, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0whats the difference between standalone version and regular version? what does one do that the other doesnt?
- Corny, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Excellent... QT is teh *****.
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Anyone know if/when they will be releasing the video of the "special event" held today?
- teeks99, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Once H.264 is working on VLC i won't care anymore.
- Snyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Wow! Is anyone else noticing a speed up in PLAYBACK of h.264? The parts of the 720p Batman trailer that used to have large fram rate drops, on my 2.53 Pentium 4 w/ 512MB of ram, no longer do! Plus I can actually watch 1080p trailers at a watchable rate of 10-15fps when before they were getting 1-5fps!
- frofro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Check out the HD clips. Kinda laggy on my P4 1.8.
- Tsuroerusu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Maybe some nice person out there will write a plugin wrapper so Linux users, like myself, can get full H264 decoding support :D
- _Caboose_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"Heh, you cooky PC users."
Hey, some of us want a Mac. Like me. :)
Anyway, I still can't play H.264 content properly; the video is still studdery for me, but not as bad. VLC is still my choice for H.264 :) - gapop, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Their download link currently doesn't work for me in Firefox. Try IE if you have the same problem.
- MLBudToo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I shall be awaiting the newest release of Quicktime Alternative. Until then I'll go with the real thing I guess.
- mindsinker, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I like the new iTunes look.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"i hate how quicktime loads in taskbar and loads when windows starts.. i hate undoing crap like that.."
There's an option in quicktime to disable the system tray icon, and you can also disable quicktime from loading when windows starts by running msconfig. - wired4christ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0@OandA Standalone doesn't come bundled with iTunes
- jiveturkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0ahh!.. i just downloaded it, and it didn't work and it delete my itunes!!.. i still love apple
- ReBeLaCe, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0New itunes looks sexy.
- mattdr488, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I just installed and I am not having any problems
- toxic17, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Where can I find Quicktime 7 without iTunes ?
- gamerzworld, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0sucks its still not in beta it still has the ads flaw when its with fire fox!
- wildbillyboy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I've had the windows pre-release for a few months now and I liked it. I liked the way it looked and performed. And as for the new iTunes look- well, I like it.
- Geekzta127, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0finally they release it for us... kind of messed up to hold out on windows users, we get beta and mac people get it way earlier than us. I bet they already had it all done, just wanted us to wait for it.
p.s. i dont have macs users :) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Welcome to a proper video player by Windows using chums. I wonder why Jobs didn't announce this at todays music event?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0"i hate how quicktime loads in taskbar and loads when windows starts.. i hate undoing crap like that..

Buy a mac. - kevin.gc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Whoa, this is actually decoding h.264 faster than VLC. (I'm using a Pentium IV 3ghz, 512ram, XP Pro, ATI x300 [cheap card] )
Try downloading one of the 1080p movies off of the Australian Apple HD Gallery. They come in zip files and appear as a small icon on the right side of some pages. I chose the Serenity trailer. Playing the movie in VLC has quite a bit of jerkiness and image artifacts, but playing the same movie in QT is smooth and flawless. - aznboi04k, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0h.264 still runs like CRAPPPPPPPP!!!!! haha, apple blows yet i still love them.
- FiveIron, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wuicktime 7 for windows has been out for a while as a beta, it's not like this is anything new now, making your title is misleading.
- KriLL3.2™, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0strangnet: thanks you rock! :>
Sorry for the slow reply but my connection crapped out on me again. My ISP has been doing some nighttime service of the network and they take it down from 01:00 to 02:00 every night for some days now... well I guess it's good they're working on it.
Snyder: I second the notion! H.264 for the win! :) - abates1337, on 04/03/2009, -0/+0Apple makes such great software! Quicktime for windows is really going to dazzle them windows users! Us macintoshers had it first.
- tallguy14, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0took them long enough
- IraqManiac, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0wahoo! much better, like the new icons and it's not as annoying, I think almost everything that annoyed/got on my nerves except for the system tray icon was fixed... thanks apple!
- bobetr, on 11/27/2008, -0/+0about flipping time
- matthewhaglund, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Does anyone know why they took out the option to choose which sound card your audio goes to? This totally screwed me...I'm using a different sound card just for my stereo. Those jerks.
- sjrberg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Today's new iTunes 5 is also bundling QuickTime 7 now.
