Qik Finally Comes to iPhone
gizmodo.com — demo client for the iPhone, bringing the popular video streaming service to the Apple platform. Much like the video apps from Sling and ..., Qik appears to be running an unnofficial app on a jailbroken iPhone.

its kevin's story, gizmodo stole it.- CatalystDM, on 06/13/2008, -9/+8Gizmodo stole it?
Pownce isn't exactly a commonly used source of info on the latest tech news, or even really a news source. And Gizmodo never claimed to have the scoop, they just posted a paragraph and a video.
The way people cream over Kevin Rose around here you would think he were a girl at a Star Trek convention.- max1018, on 06/13/2008, -8/+3But it's Kevin Rose! Dude!
- CatalystDM, on 06/13/2008, -9/+8Gizmodo stole it?
- skaspud, on 06/13/2008, -12/+6android.
- seraph582, on 06/13/2008, -1/+3will be cool, but it's still just paper fud at the moment. This is here, now.
- tetfsu, on 06/13/2008, -8/+3Looks like I bet on the wrong horse.... again.
- ferrell, on 06/13/2008, -10/+12Damn,
For a second, I thought we were getting QIX on the iPhone...
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Qix- limbikity, on 06/13/2008, -0/+5and i thought we were getting Quisp!
http://www.cereal.com/Breakfast-Cereals/quisp.htm
that's right, cereal.com exists. - Philbert, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1That would be awesome, Qix is a classic!
- Gizmort, on 06/14/2008, -0/+1Qix and Quisp are my favs for sure. That does it. I am going to eat a bowl of Quisp in line waiting to upgrade my iPhone to the iPhone GPS!
- limbikity, on 06/13/2008, -0/+5and i thought we were getting Quisp!
- mark076h, on 06/13/2008, -1/+6apps like this are going to be awesome, there is another one from Flixwagon that is going to do it also, http://mashable.com/2008/06/12/flixwagon-iphone-vi ...
i hope ustream makes one also- misterdrumz, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2Yeah, I've been using QIK on my N95 for a few months now since I got an invite from someone. It's awesome, I've used it at gigs, theme parks and even chopping down a tree with my dad and brother! If anyone's interested: www.qik.com/misterdrumz
- waydee, on 06/13/2008, -10/+3How the hell do you stream video over an EDGE connection?
- KMehthas, on 06/13/2008, -0/+9most likely you don't - I wouldn't be surprised if this only works on 3G and Wifi...
- sirmasterboy, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4The same way you stream Youtube over edge to the iPhone... 200k is plenty fast to stream in the iPhone and yes that's the speed I get on average from mobilespeedtest.
- diggcommentguy, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2Yeah, that's downstream, not up bro.
- synyster, on 06/13/2008, -0/+4get a 3G iphone might help
- harryterry, on 06/13/2008, -1/+3it doesn't look like it quit on him...he hits the home button
- limbikity, on 06/13/2008, -1/+3there's always a considerable lag, even on wifi
- Jeffrr, on 06/13/2008, -6/+2another reason why I need to buy the new iphone
- mrburns00, on 06/13/2008, -8/+0I was leaning more on the new Samsung Instinct phone that's coming out soon for sprint, for it's video recording capabilities - UNTIL NOW.......
Pretty sure I'll be getting the new iphone!!
Wooohooo.. - hepj, on 06/13/2008, -1/+10This will only be any good if it's a real application, not just one for jailbroken phones like it appears to be.
- limbikity, on 06/13/2008, -1/+6i'm SURE they plan on putting in through the store... it's a great way for them to get a bigger user base, but only if it's easy for ppl to install and use
- clith, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2But will Apple allow it?
If they do, is it possible the CPU in the iPhone 3G is faster than the one in the iPhone 1.0? It may allow more frames per second.
Obviously, I'm of two minds on this. I think I will jailbreak my to-be-purchased Canadian iPhone 3G (if possible) just to get apps like this.- bigsteve, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1Apple most likely won't certify it unless it's limited to wifi as per their "no hogging bandwidth" clause in their terms of service.
The processor in the iPhone 3G is the same ARM processor found in the original.
- bigsteve, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1Apple most likely won't certify it unless it's limited to wifi as per their "no hogging bandwidth" clause in their terms of service.

- ozid, on 06/13/2008, -5/+2I really want this to come out for PalmOS. (Centro)
(don't give me ***** about the phone plz. i got it for free, and for that price... it's sick) - redhitman, on 06/13/2008, -4/+5Alright, now all I need is an iPhone and a better data plan.
*****, is it July yet?- synyster, on 06/13/2008, -3/+2don't forget massive collection of p***
- jakatak, on 06/13/2008, -8/+1Is anyone worried about the small amount of memory. 8 gig and 16 gig isn't much. Especially when the apps can go as high as 2 gig each. 4 apps on your phone and your screwed. I don't know about this. I expected the memory to have doubled. iPhone 3.0 where are you.
- bryantee, on 06/13/2008, -0/+6I don't think many apps will even approach that 2 gig max.
- eschompthis, on 06/13/2008, -0/+102 gig 4 gig.. wtf are you downloading? most apps are under 10 mb
- clith, on 06/13/2008, -0/+2I think jakatak is thinking about *recording* video.
Jakatak: this is about **streaming** video from your iPhone to the interwebs. Your 8/16 GB isn't touched, except for the size of the app itself which, as bryantee and eschompthis point out, is pretty small. - mikev, on 06/13/2008, -0/+38/16GB is fine. Qik doesn't even record, and if you were going to record, I don't think it would be any more than a few minutes. It's not like you're shooting an HD movie.
- HumanRecall, on 06/13/2008, -11/+3Kevin's Pounce is still alive ? Wow i thought they would have pulled the plug on that a while ago
- spudsstuff, on 06/13/2008, -3/+2Looks great. iPhone getting better and better
- beggersfunk, on 06/13/2008, -3/+2Kewl.
- teabagginz, on 06/13/2008, -2/+4Doin it live!
- Philbert, on 06/13/2008, -0/+17"The iPhone isn't designed to record video"
And yet it does. The VideoRecorder app I have installed does a really good job.- andretii, on 06/13/2008, -1/+5sure, it takes longer for the app to encode the video than the real length of the video
- bigsteve, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1No, it's on par with other mobile/embedded video recording software I've used. The iPhone does, after all, contain a h.264 hardware encoder/decoder. If the app is coded to take advantage of it, it could be even better with smaller video files to boot.
- andretii, on 06/13/2008, -1/+5sure, it takes longer for the app to encode the video than the real length of the video
- windohs, on 06/13/2008, -3/+1more Nesquik?
- TheJas, on 06/13/2008, -3/+3Yeah once the App Store is open for business I am sure people will still want to go through the whole jailbreak thing.
- stormbreaker, on 06/13/2008, -1/+2It ISN'T designed to encode video, there's no hardware to encode it. All the encoding that VideoRecorder app does is done through software, which is why it takes so long.
- bigsteve, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1There is hardware in it for doing so, the h.264 encoder. Videorecorder isn't optimized to use it though. It could be re-written to do so.
- shupp, on 06/13/2008, -1/+1Guess it's time to finally jail break my iPhone.
- atomicrobot, on 06/13/2008, -3/+1So?
- misamiyo, on 06/13/2008, -1/+0another applications for the iphone, that will give the consumers an idea to buy the latest iphone, it makes sense, anyway.
- diggitupyall, on 06/13/2008, -6/+1Qik = Gay
Nothing on there worth my time - Ries, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1Now all I need its proper bluetooth.....
- JohnnyHotballs, on 06/13/2008, -0/+1qik is great...glad to see it's merging with a great phone
- OWNAGETIME, on 06/15/2008, -0/+1Yeah but where is Qik for my Blackberry?
- jerrvc, on 09/12/2008, -0/+0It's a great way for them to get a bigger user base, but only if it's easy for ppl to install and use.
- mytch, on 06/18/2008, -0/+0SalesForce, Qik, Google. The possibilities for the iPhone as the defacto mobile platform are real. So much user uptake and developer adoption (us included: http://digg.com/apple/iPhone_Order_Processing_with ... means one thing: it will become the standard business mobile device within 12 months.
- BuyViagraPills, on 06/23/2008, -5/+0Its nice but not great...
