- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -3/+87Personally I blame the thieves.
- HMTKSteve, on 10/12/2007, -4/+52So...
More products = more robberies???
What's the next headline going to be: "More cars leads to more accidents." ???? - guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -4/+52iPods are exploding? What? Huh?
Oh....iPod sales are exploding! Ahhhh.... - voteforblank, on 10/12/2007, -8/+35This is the DUMBEST thing I've heard of...
Officer: "so you say they attacked you and stole your iPod?"
Kid: "yeah..."
Officer: "Suits you right for having one... turn around, your under arrest?"
Kid: "what, what... for what?"
Officer: "You've increased crime, causing additional Terror on the streets.... it's Guantanamo for you buddy!.... and don't even think about calling your parents, they'll never see you again!"
Kid: "I knew I should have gotten the barbie doll instead... maybe they though I was gay and a congressman would have saved me!" - xoineg, on 10/12/2007, -6/+20just use the iPod as an iRock and hit them in the head....(This may void your warranty)
- autoy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Would cellphones count in that 5%? What a bunch of FUD.
- CanceledCzech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14In other news, educated people blame ***** police work for 5% increase in robberies.
- LordOfTheSponge, on 10/12/2007, -3/+14If they couldn't steal Ipods they would just steal something else. - this is retarded.
- MetricLobster, on 10/12/2007, -6/+14neh was funny right up to the barbie doll comment...
- Zarks, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Anything to shift the blame away from the politicians.
- aerophe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Ya I started blaming my spelling mistakes on my pencil, works great
- CraigJ, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8that is known as "evolution in action"
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6My ipod was stolen from my car. The person turned my car inside out and took nothing else. I had a $20 in the dash, a case of retail cd's, my deck with removable faceplat was still there, and my amps and subs. I reported to the police immediatly and they hardly took a care, never got passed the operator. But I guess I made a statistic, thats neat. :)
- James3of3, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8OK, this proves that our law enforcement is lacking. Is this supposed to make us feel sorry for carrying our electronic devices, and starting an increase in crime?
- gabogab, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Maybe if they wrote fewer parking and traffic tickets they would have more time to go after the criminals, instead of blaming me for buying an IPod.
Or is this another journalist who got paid to try to revert the iPod's popularity? - blast_flame, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Breaking news! The police blame the invention of cars for the 100% increase in car jackings.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Make the ipods really explodable and they'll be responsible for a 5% decrease in crime.
Problem solved. - CraigJ, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4A complete load of crap. Having more cool stuff induces theifs to steal, so I guess we should give up all of our posessions, and live in communes together. Then there would be nothing to steal and the world would be perfect!
Dude needs a basic logic test and isn't qualifed to be chief of anything being that stupid. - dknighton, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I don't know about anyone else, but I blame criminals for robberies. Seems silly to blame a piece of hardware.
- Stemp, on 10/12/2007, -6/+9Next Apple product : iGun ?
- pinky24, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4father: "ok son, If anyone tries to steal that shiny new ipod of yours, cub them over the head with this"
son: "ok"
father: "have fun on your first day of kindergarden..." - tuxuser, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2so the police are lazy then? ah we all knew this!
- catmistake, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2no... its true... because the popo can't take their eye's off their gizmo's, its like a free for all...
- booc0mtaco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3That's like blaming wealth on crime. What morons....
If people were more careful about brandishing their gear, we wouldn't have these problems. - Farmer77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What's worse than wearing ipod earphones outside in a bad neighborhood is playing a PSP outside in a bad neighborhood. Instant crime statistic.
- kodek, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Didn't you know? To Pod is a verb.
"OMG, I just podded all over" - asdren, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2don't use the white headphones
- kublerross, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3exactly. if all these inconsiderate people would stop buying stuff then the theives would have nothing to steal... this logic kind of reminds me another situation
- Laserwulf, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2*whew* Good thing I have a Creative MP3 player, or else I'd have been worried!
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1What utter crap! Crime is on the up (as usual) and the effectiveness of policing, detection and deterrants is questionable at best. Only thing the police are any good at, these days, is tackling motoring offences. Robberies: do the police still deal with those; they and the system as a whole certainly don't deter them.
- DelMonte, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I blame donuts for the rise in crime!
hmmmm.... donuts.... - r3zonance, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Yeah. The new ones sound nice, but not as nice as my Sony MDR-EX71 in-ear headphones.
- Bitgod, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Time to sue Apple again.
- endekks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I blame money for the 100% increase in corruption.
Dumbasses. - ticocats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hmmm. Last year my house in Costa Rica was broken into. Dell laptop: stolen. Panasonic digital camera: stolen. Sony voice recorder: stolen. Case with 2 iPods & accessories: opened, contents dumped on floor and left there.
- neuropsychguy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3iVerb? What are you talking about? What words are verbs? iMac, iPod, iBook? I don't think any of those are verbs, unless my understanding of English has been incorrect all these years.
- tirofiban, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1What? Is this related to the tube problem on the Internet?
- space1nvaders, on 10/06/2008, -0/+0The press sure know how to use words to get attention. My first reaction was the same. Now iPods are exploding? Oh..
- JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Law enforcement and crime fit the "this rock repels tigers" analogy. They don't actually do anything to prevent crime, only react to it, and most of the time it's things that aren't even crimes (such as drug use). How ever these alleged crimes sadly do produce real criminals. :-/
I probably shouldn't digress but this ***** is serious. - Mist0r_Wiggles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3They should really blame money...
It's not like the iPod cost 99 cents.
Those things are expansive, so if you really want to blame "______" for the rate robberies you should blame rich people for spending their money on cool things. Or blame our capitalist economy that make the rich, richer and the poor, poorer. None of this would happen if everyone had the same things.
I'm no Communist btw. - NptPrchr, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Most-idiotic non-sequitur ever.
- JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2That's why if you go to a school in Los Angeles like I did you carry one of these with you around like I did:
http://www.rbprecision.com/260d0d00.png - Rodzirra, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1So, in other words, the word "crime" is useless in any serious discussion about morality. It's just a word used by the ruling gang to let you know which excuses they'll use for robbing, maiming, and killing you.
- dillchuk, on 10/12/2007, -5/+4Also, people tend to lose awareness of their surroundings -- when they're absorbed into the loud music or a cell phone conversation -- and make for much easier targets. How many times have I seen a person on a cellphone walk out in front of traffic at the wrong time only to be honked back into reality.
- splendidbob, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Fact is, crime is bound to go up, all the feckless dregs (chavs etc) breed at a much faster rate than proper people because they dont understand how to use contraceptives, and all participate in 'how many babies can i pop out before i am age 30' competitions.
Clearly then with this scientific fact established beyond mere evidence, it becomes clear why ipod snatching and mugging become more common, this demographic enjoy this form of crime much more than more lucrative crimes because they are attracted to bright and shiny things, bright and shiny (ipod) usually have a higher immediate value than dark and dull things.
Although dark and dull things (like wallets) may contain goods with higher liquidity and thus value (cash), to discover this would mean the dreg would have to understand the concept of 'containers' etc.
>dreg population = >ipod crime
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1iChat is the only one I can think of that's a verb, but they could have meant it as a noun for all we know.
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3that barbie doll comment made the joke imo.
- infiniti029, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3I blame those damn video games for making people commit these crimes!
*waits for jack thompson to jump out of the bushes* - hodyoaten, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0I'm surprised you were dugg down... I think maybe the theory embarrassed some people here. If being absorbed in a podcast or mp3 tune doesn't make you lose awareness of what's going on around you, I don't know what does.
- JonForTheWin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1High school in Los Angeles basically is kindergarten anyway . .
