- yensed, on 10/12/2007, -14/+33Come On.. Someone says nothing more but "pimpin" and gets +2 diggs. But if someone doesn't agree with something, they get -diggs.. Some people are really stupid.. *Expects to get many -diggs on this comment*
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -8/+13Keep in mind that +2 diggs is only one person hitting +digg.
- vertigoblue, on 10/12/2007, -2/+20i didnt see much pimpin' in that article...
it was more like get front row, an external HD, a wireless keyboard, and an HDTV.
if thats pimpin' my ubuntu/MythTV box is at home doing that right now... (minus Frontrow)
i thought it was going to have a built in LCD with 20'' spinners on it, or at least a glowstick next to it.- Bluezdood, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Oh dude, you are so pimpin. ;-)
- Cjattwood, on 10/12/2007, -7/+4Nice article, now I just need a mac mini ;)
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -8/+4Very nice... I plan on getting a Mac Mini and digital projector - some day.
- yogiincork, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2check this article out if you have a mac mini - nice and stylish enhancements for a reasonable price.
i'm just lacking the HD DVI TV :)
since the mini is lacking a audio in port - and if you want to spend a minimum of money - check out the Griffin iMic 2 ($39.95 on AppleStore). see http://www.griffintechnology.com/products/imic2/index.php - PhantomC, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3anyone got any good ways of outputting surround audio from a powerpc mac mini?
Ive seen those m-audio transits but they cost 200AUD in australia... so screw that.
surely someone makes a cheapish surround sound audio to firewire/USB device for mac? - Linh, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0nice... pretty common knowledge I thought, but it got me wanting a mac mini for my HTPC again.. heh. that whole cost factor is what kills it.
- lostboy, on 10/12/2007, -6/+3does anyone else feel that this new modding system is too free with mod points. i.e. people are modding comments down for the smallest of reasons, rather than for any practical or on-topic purpose.
Of course comparisons will always be made between slashdot and digg but one place that /. excels in is well moderated discussion; whether the discussion is too sychophantic for you is another question, but their moderation system that awards mod points based on participation works very well. The digg comment modding system will have to be changed, it can't go on like this for long simply. I already see people complaining in every story about this problem. Lets hope we see this soon.- ,,|,_, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3Then adjust your threshold, that's what it's there for!
- rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3The threshold setting in your personal defaults don't work and the thresholds change everytime you come back to an article. Poor software. Poor feature.
- Nik420, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1the threshold setting in my profile works fine. I'm not sure what you are referring to. I have mine set to -4
- lostboy, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1it makes no difference to me whether i adjust my threshold, i'm not tired of seeing stupid posts, i'm tired of seeing posts stupidly modded. If people valued their mod points more then you wouldn't have posts completely buried because they happened to be negative on one point - and rile people - but also be very pertinent in other ways.
for instance can anyone tell me why yogiincork's comment has been modded down to -5? He makes a useful and interesting post and adds a link to a useful piece of hardware? This modding system is frelled.
- REpler, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10So... uh.. I guess my VCR is all pimped out 'cause it's hooked up to my TV.
NO DIGG FOR YOU- citres, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1yes..... im not sure at all how this is pimping, "i hooked up my minimac to the tv and upgraded the hd", whoa!
- sniper668, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9The article seems to be more about what gadgets you can hook up to it, rather than actually "hacking" it.
- ,,|,_, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I agree. The article was very underwhelming.
- solusdotipse, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Anything with "pimp your" is dumb. I didn't even read this. Could of been "Pimp your lottery tickets to win a billion dollars" and I wouldn't of cared. Maybe a little
- JW00000, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Beware! "Pimp your" is trademarked by MTV.
- Tsuroerusu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Another way to put a Mac mini to good use is to put NetBSD on it, write some shellscripts to go check RSS feeds and automatically pull in torrents off the web and feed them to a BitTorrent client, those scripts could be great to have running as a scheduled cron job.
Why do I say a normal BSD operating system instead of the raped-up BSD-thingy that Apple does? Because FreeBSD, NetBSD, OpenBSD and of course Linux, is much much eaisier to tweak and tinker with, you can really get deep into the system and make that the apps you're running, runs as best as humanly possible, with that OS X stuff you really need to be a real Mach kernel expert, which takes a hell of a long time reading thick books to achive. - das7282, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Ok, this was dumb.
- easygoing, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3There are so many other articles about the Mac mini on digg it's getting stale. It should take something special to get it back on the front page and I agree with several of the above posters - this wasn't pimped.
- monzsca, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Time to un-pimp the mini.
- Charlotte_Web, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Pimpin?
Frackin' noob article. Yeah, let me "pimp out" my Mac with stuff I can buy off the shelf at my local Wal-Mart.
Don't people read these articles before they digg?- rebrad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2I think there are some who run scripts to digg anything with Apple or Mac in them. I just can't believe some of the crap that makes it to the front page would get there any other way.
- redsrule2500, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Pimpin? This is REDICULOUS. Don't Digg everything with 'mac' in the title, fanboys. This is getting rediculous.
- Nik420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I disagree strongly with his choice of addons here. Why did he get an external hard drive and a seperate mini specific Lacie USB hub? I have a mini form factor miniStack that has a 250 GB Hard drive, firewire/USB hub all in one that fits under my mini. It is a much more elegant solution.
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2exactly. the ministacks rock, especially if you grab the 500GB model. =P the newer models have more ports on them too. (miniStack v2.0)
the pimpin article sucked btw.
- diecastbeatdown, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2exactly. the ministacks rock, especially if you grab the 500GB model. =P the newer models have more ports on them too. (miniStack v2.0)
- cmstar0, on 10/12/2007, -4/+0Make it a gang of pimps....
CLUSTER !!!
http://tinyurl.com/jew96
http://tinyurl.com/5thsm - allenu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2How disappointing. I was expecting them to paint the Mini a nice lime green, add a wing, put a sunroof, hook up some PSPs to the back and add a beer dispenser along with Xzibit making an appearance. They're giving "pimp" a bad name by naming their article this.
- volcomjerk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Why is everyone going nuts over an overpriced mac mini with dual cores? Buy an xbox 360 premium instead, three cores and plays games and pretty much does everything and more than Front Row could handle.
Mac Mini with Dual Core - $799
XBOX 360 with Triple Cores - $399- Tsuroerusu, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2And will probably be running Linux quite well some time next year, or you can wait for the Revolution which will probably be either 150 or 200 bucks.
- omgitsmit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Forget the misleading title of the post.
Lets focus on why the picture has a IBM keyboard.- mojofrojo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I was wondering the same thing.
- Glidedon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1If you don't like the submitted link, don't Digg it and move on.
I don't care if you think it's lame, old news, or a dupe.
If you want to comment on the content, go ahead make my day. - Nerfdude, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1so you can make the front page by submitting an article about BUYING ACCESSORIES? impressive.
- DrPlacebo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I agree :s
Wheres the custom painted case, chrome outer shell, 24" spinning fans, and led underglows?! - dfa83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1this should be like -100 digs..lol...pimping....wow !!!
- CyBrShRk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Nothing about 'pimpin' in that article. Just a brief overview of extra gadgets you can buy for the mini. Pimpin to me is homebrew stuff.
- dreamkatcha, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I followed the link to the specs page for the Belkin USB/firewire hub as I'm looking to expand my Mini. It states that an external power adapter isn't needed. That's rubbish - fill up a few of those ports and the Mini will disable them because they're drawing too much juice. This happens to me without a hub when I have an external hard drive, keyboard (which includes two USB ports), mouse and Elgato TV box connected simultaneously. Not that I'm complaining - the Mini is designed to be a low-powered, entry-level machine. I knew that when I bought it and am fine with it.
Belkin are misleading people and being cheapskates by not including a proper power adapter, which is clearly essential.
