- littlebiker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+14Vista excites me very little. I moved to intel mac thinking I will never miss my 'great' windows software (as I can run windows too). After using mac for quite sometime now suddenly windows has become so difficult to use. Also, I have found replacement for most software on Mac that do a better job, And vista seems more like a major security and stability update. Or maybe I am just too lazy to try Vista/Windows but it's good to know if I ever need it Parallels is already ready.
Here is poll that shows number of people using parallels or bootcamp to actually run windows. http://www.tezaa.com/view/if_you_own_an_intel_based_mac_have_you_installed_windows_yet - besides, I am yet to know of someone who runs primarily Windows on a mac hardware. - paulsmerdon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Vista's UI is certainly an improvement on the Crayola style of XP but it really isn't any different. After using RC1 for about a week I do like it better than XP but I'm always glad to get back to my Mac. If Microsoft had managed to ship Vista before Tiger it would have been much more impressive, but now, having had the Vista innovations for more than a year in Tiger, I just can't get excited about it.
That said, it is nice to be able to run Vista in a window on the Intel Macs for those occasions when a Windows machine is necessary. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -8/+11The poll is missing the "Installed XP using Boot Camp only to realize XP is a piece of ***** compared to OS X and wiped the partition" option.
- kendawg, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6oh, it's not even good so don't worry :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Vista is sloooooooow on Parallels. Any way to get Aero working inside of parallels?
- TomP, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5I multiboot windows and os x only for the reason of I need windows for college work (c++) :(
- kendawg, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5why, to make it even slower?
- jabbar, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2if you read the blog, the developer states that this build is for mac pro users (64 bit) with more than 2 GB of ram. seeing as most intel iMacs (exception being the 24"), MBP's and MB's cant get more than 2 GB and have not yet gone with the 64 bit Merom processors, this build wont help us. he did say he was working on one though.
http://parallelsvirtualization.blogspot.com/ - phytonix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i believe people have parallels just for running some windows programs.
if XP can do it, why bother a slower Vista? Really want Vista? Boot camp. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3No, to see what all the fuss is about.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Means more money for MSFT. hahaha !
- GreatDrok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I've been running Vista B2 under Parallels on my MBP and it is pretty slow. I don't know if this release supports RC1 which I believe is much faster. However, I don't really see any advantage to using Vista under Parallels other than the novelty factor. The UI isn't all that different to XP and to be honest I think XP with the media centre theme looks better than Aero basic and XP is much quicker for the moment.
Actually, I think I use Parallels to run Fedora 5 more than I do Windows because I am developing software for OSX and Linux and the abililty to run a Linux system on my MBP is great. - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2You really shouldn't base your opinion about the future of Microsoft on websites like Digg, and in general, the internet.
If more and more people are switching to Mac, why is market share percentage DOWN in recent months and do you have a source for 'More and more people' switching to Mac besides people on Digg and other interweb sites ?
I really don't want to ruin your dream, but you need to be realistic, have a proper base for your comments, don't say inaccurate things, etc.
We've heard people predicting the doom of Microsoft for YEARS (Literally, like 10+ years) and every time it's some new thing (This time being Intel-based Macs) yet it fizzles out to nothing and the only real hype is on the internet where people seem to believe what they think or what happens on their favourite site represents the outside world. - Kazaki, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Dude, wake up, we use the same processors as Windows machines now, that CPU argument just doesn't fly.
Also, Halo 2 comes with Vista for free? Rumor without a citation? I never heard such a thing. - Crepsley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Yea right man.
Don't post ***** if you ain't talking about the article. - mobilehavoc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1@trylleklovn,
Congrats! That was one of the most misinformed, blatantly Apple-fanboyish posts I've ever read on Digg and there are plenty.
Enjoy living in your little Apple world - I choose to live in reality, but that's just me.
A dose of reality for you: http://www.appleinsider.com/article.php?id=2059 - Crepsley, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Yea, I know they can run the same processors now, but not many people today have a lot of MacBooks/Pro or the new iMacs, even the normal processors are better than Windows because on Mac it runs a lot smoother. It's a fact!
Go an compare CSS and Unreal Tournament and notice the terrain deference and how realistic the gun looks. Just because we run Intel doesn't mean we don't have the power of a Mac.
I, personally, like AMD better. There processors are more reliable. Intel is just in the lead for now, but watch what AMD is gonna come up with. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2I only use Boot Camp to play counterstrike. Once, maybe twice a month.
I use Parallels never. I have found wonderful, if not, better alternatives on the Mac. BBEdit, CyberDuck, etc.
Very happy in my Intel Mac world! - estvir, on 10/12/2007, -7/+6Anyone can throw around 'Crayola UI' or 'Fisher Price UI' - it's as easy as saying things like "My first Mac" etc.
What I'm getting at is that it's lame, tired and really doesn't help your argument besides making you look like you're regurgitating what the last 15 people on /. said. - trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3It seems the future of Microsoft is uncertain... More and more people switch to Mac, people I have known for a long time and used to be hardcore gamers starts buying Mac's, at first knowing that they can just boot Windows, but after a while they don't and use OS X instead.
I, myself have been converted and I believe more will follow.
A larger user scale will allow for more games released for OS X, and then more will follow etc.. - broken1812, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2finally...i've been waiting for this
- Crepsley, on 10/12/2007, -8/+0The whole point of a Mac is not to do complicates things and get viruses. All I know is that Vista is only based for gaming, Microsoft is trying to show-off that they are better because they have more games. I hate people that think that way because the processors on the mac and the video cards can run games that 100 times better than windows. I would get Vista cause it comes with Halo 2 for free. But I wouldn't get Parallels because it does slow down a lot. This is only a rumor i heard where Leopard is supposed to have their own kind of Boot Camp, only way better. The rumor says that when you switch users on Mac, and you see that cube turning. Same basic principle with Mac OSX and Windows, you can switch modes from Mac to Windows and see that cool cube :)
