[PIC] Yellow Submarine iPod Forthcoming?
gizmodo.com — Here's our resident artiste's rendition of the latest Apple-Beatles rumor: this one has a Yellow Submarine-like iPod shipping soon with the entire Beatles catalog loaded on board.
- 1366 diggs
- digg it
- jspegele, on 10/11/2007, -10/+23Since the image they're using appears to be the rumored widescreen (iPhone-like) iPod, which we probably won't see anytime soon, I'd say this is unlikely.
- muse09, on 10/11/2007, -13/+1the font makes it fake.
- ravi7791, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26Gizmodo made the picture..it's just there for show purposes..not meant to be taken seriously
- zackkitzmiller, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Exactly. Merlin Mann invented this Yellow iPod idea on an episode of MacBreak Weekly.
- thekronz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Yeah no kidding. The picture is obviously fake, its an iPhone flipped horizontally, colored yellow, and put a Beatles picture in the middle. A teenage girl with photoshop could make this for her annoying myspace page.
- unreg, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Thanks Commander Obvious
- ravi7791, on 10/11/2007, -2/+26Gizmodo made the picture..it's just there for show purposes..not meant to be taken seriously
- singlegirlgeek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+10I would buy this in a second. Rumor or not I'll hold out for this and not buy an iphone.
- TheWorm, on 10/11/2007, -10/+1Apple has never released a yellow product before. Doesn't seem like they'd start now.
- unreg, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2You can never say never to profit
- demodawid, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Seriously, all I see is a (poorly) photoshopped iphone with a picture of the Beatles and no source at all except for "tech digest" and "crunch gear". I wouldn't trust this rumor either.
- rasterbator, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6If this does end up being for real, expect a White Album iPod as well.
- cjdaniel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Why does this have to be so far off? An iPod using the same type of interface as an iPhone would be simpler than an iPhone, not more complex; remove the phone and wifi capabilities, maybe reduce the processing capacity, add a hard drive.
- kevincannon, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Have any iPods shipped with songs pre-loaded onto them?
Surely that would break the whole iTunes>iPod system? So would be a definitive sign that this is fake.
- muse09, on 10/11/2007, -13/+1the font makes it fake.
- adamjbuckland, on 10/11/2007, -3/+35This is only the 50th time this rumor has resurfaced.. (Valentine's day anyone?)
- DaBrainiac, on 10/11/2007, -2/+18Man I love rumors.
- seraph82, on 10/11/2007, -13/+7The beatles are great, but that's really, really stupid.
- SnuKs, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4I think it looks dumb [i personally don't like yellow gadgets], but it's a really smart idea. Everyone loves the Beatles and would love to buy the song on iTunes if they could. Now instead of introducing their catalog on iTunes first, they'll do it on a new gen iPod. I'm sure they'll push A LOT of sales.
- championchap, on 10/11/2007, -5/+1Not everyone loves The Beatles.
I for example hate them and their music.
Everyone has a different taste, and The Beatles do not cater for mine. Understood?- TheBEAST205, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Oh yea, let me guess, you'd probably rather listen to some generic rap/metal/ "hardcore" band/artist than listen to one of the most innovative bands in history?
What has music come to these days? - Gerz1219, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Everyone may have their own taste, but yours is WRONG.
So why all the Beatles-on-iTunes stories? Everyone with even a passing interest in the Beatles has had their entire catalog in MP3 form for the last decade. And anyone can rip the CD's they likely own if they don't feel like downloading. This isn't like Star Wars or The Godfather being released on DVD back in the day.

- ZogDog, on 10/11/2007, -2/+83Where's my giant Clifford the Red Dog iPod?
- etandrib, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It would have to be the size of the display iPhones in the Apple stores because it is "Clifford the BIG Red Dog"
- whiteyMcBrown, on 10/11/2007, -12/+8Whether it happens or not, that thing is HOT!
- plhearn, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4Ok Paris Hilton
- GeekSwag, on 10/11/2007, -8/+15Rumor has it: Next iPod to cure cancer!
- cubs2234, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Actually, Apple is sending the cure out with the next iPhone software update.
- balzin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+15Apple rumors? Pish-posh I say!
- Stormwysper, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9It figures as soon as the iPhone is released new iPod rumors had to surface.
All is right in the world.- Medison, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Define "new".
- skyofconfusion, on 10/11/2007, -12/+3buried for being stupid
- balzin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Likewise
- dacheetah, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Yes, you have been.
- balzin, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9Likewise
- rotarychainsaw, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2this would force me to buy an ipod finally.
- CheckPlease, on 10/11/2007, -18/+5Can I place my order for the first "The Beatles weren't as awesome as every graying Boomer would like to believe" themed iPod? I can't decide yet if I want the "Pet Sounds" or "Village Green Preservation Society" model.
- balzin, on 10/11/2007, -7/+23***** off. The Beatles were the greatest band to ever live. Go listen to Panic at the Disco.
- CheckPlease, on 10/11/2007, -17/+1Why, 'cos your parents say so? And, true, if you're not sucking on the ***** of some glorified show tunes disguised as "rock music," then you must listen to the current bad fad music. God knows the Beatles weren't an image-first substance-second act. Go listen to a classic rock station, soccer mom.
- SteveMax, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5It's official. You've never listened to any post-65 Beatles song.
- CheckPlease, on 10/11/2007, -17/+1Why, 'cos your parents say so? - SpectralSounds, on 10/11/2007, -3/+10I'm sorry you don't appreciate the Beatles. Regardless of whether you acknowledge it or not, they are one of the best bands ever.
- wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6HAHA. you guys are funny. i can't wait to see how the rest of this plays out. flame on!
edit: sorry, that should have been a reply to the war above, not this guys level headed comment. oops!

- ChadUSofA, on 10/11/2007, -8/+3Looks pretty fag-tastic to me
- billymonster49, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9rumor: there is a new ipod coming out SOMETIME.
jesus, i love apple and my ipod, but all this conjecture is RETARDED! - derleiermann, on 10/11/2007, -1/+41Merlin Mann will be so embarrassed of seeing his fake fun rumor hitting once again digg front page :/
It's 100% fake, and the rumor was actually made up just for making fun of rumor sites :) - HA5TY, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4if this did happen, all of there songs won't come on it.. On the U2 iPod you had to buy the songs, but they gave you a discount.
- sickswaystop, on 10/11/2007, -2/+9i heard it was supposed to be shaped like the yellow submarine, but not actually yellow.
purely speculation ;-) - cjmack, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Old Rumor...from Merlin Mann on MacBreak Weekly around Super Bowl (end of January/early February)...or as Merlin pointed out, this rumor comes directly from his butt.
- dusingaz, on 10/11/2007, -4/+2[PIC] ..... sure
- shinelikeitdoes, on 10/11/2007, -7/+81) Your resident artiste sucks. Poor work all around on that mockup.
2) I really hope if Apple creates such a thing they will go with a white ("white album") theme ...or really any theme they could come up with BESIDES an obnoxious yellow.- nonzzero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Apple has been going with a white theme pretty much since the beginning.
- mannymix03, on 10/11/2007, -3/+5keep stabbing in the dark apple rumor sites, you will get it right eventually
- bilbravo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+6Ok maybe I'm missing something, but isn't that an iPhone... not an iPod?
- bilbravo, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2Oh... I get it, I had to click on some obscure link in parantheses at the bottom of that blurb. Direct links please!
- wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -3/+15There should be an option to bury an article as "Stop wasting my time with this *****."
Buried for wasting my time with this ***** - smurf22, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2Coming next slipknot black ipod, and fall out boy white!
- signal15, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Awesome, iPhones that cut themselves.
- skyofconfusion, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8why was there even a U2 ipod?
- allanmacaulay, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1Did anyone else notice it's just a yellow iPhone?
- titlesaysitall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Wow, did you figure that out all by yourself?
- kittynipples, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4That's Sgt. Pepper's artwork anyway.
- 68024, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5...with a pink hat photoshopped on Paul's head.
- signal15, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8I would like to see a 007 themed iPhone/iPod preloaded with all of the 007 films. They could add death ray functionality to it also.
- betobeto, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Or a "Mission Impossible" themed one... programmed to self-destruct in 5 seconds. Now that would be smart.
- iStunT, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2First of all, thats not an iPod nessarily, its an iPhone.
Second of all, why? - heilig, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2a yellow submarine ipod with them dressed as on st. peppers?
- wattznext, on 10/11/2007, -3/+8How about a digg themed Iphone, which automatically calls all your friends and interjects comments about, 9/11 conspiracy theories, Atheism, how awesome apple is or how evil bush is into totally unrelated phone conversations
- bigpappasmurf, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6I wouldn't mind having one.
- VIPAccess, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6I just want the re-mastered tracks. After listening to LOVE it's hard to go back.
- spd998, on 10/11/2007, -0/+6i've never been a big ipod fan but I would so get a one with the entire beatles catalog of music on.
- f4nt0m4s, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7i'm not sure why we would launch a debate about the talent of the Beatles...no doubt they were talented. History shows us that there was a lot of garage band talent back in the 50s and 60s, the Beatles brought a sound to the mainstream, and changed the entire history of music. one can always bring forth the question of originality. Was zeppelin or nirvana original? not necessarily, but they streamlined a sound and made it interesting for everyone who isn't a music elitist.
On a side note...The Yellow Submarine is one of the trippiest films ever. That movie has seizure written all over it. - soxrcol, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Paul is a dead man, miss him, miss him!
- Phillbo88, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I buuuuuuried Paul.
- adamantium, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Cranberry Sauce........
- shannon30338, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1I am waiting for a G.G. Allin iPod loaded with all of his music.
- sporkulious, on 10/11/2007, -2/+0apple hasn't released an iPod yet with a catalog so why the foolish conjecture, on top of which is the idea that any new iPod will be a clone of the iPhone?
- Phillbo88, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They couldn't put music on the iPod because of the legal battle with Apple Corp., which just recently ended.
- BlueDawg5678, on 10/11/2007, -6/+3Rumor has it that it would only take 2 more bullets to reunite the Beatles
- Phillbo88, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1***** you man!
- 68024, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3That's a fun picture but why is there a silly pink hat photoshopped on Paul's head? Makes me think the rumor must be bogus, much as I would like it to be true.
- ostracize, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Yellow Submarine Yellow
Strawberry Fields Forever Red
Lucy in the Sky with Diamonds Blue
Blackbird Black
...
And others
...
Collect them all!- seanc6610, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4White Album White.
- TheBEAST205, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Revolver Black!
- astrotrain, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1$800 a pop... planning to live or move back in with your parents?
- adamantium, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1for you BLUE
- seanc6610, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4White Album White.
- thekronz, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Dugg for opening paragraph...
"Hi there, Beatles haters. Please skip on down to the next post, and keep listening to that crappy music that will never measure up to the virtuosity and creativity of the musical entity that defined the 20th Century. Okay, now that they're gone..." - Markie1006, on 10/11/2007, -6/+2That thing is so ugly it almost makes me want a Zune
- JJayguy23, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Ohhh, that'll look so pretty. I'll buy one.
- astrotrain, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1sad...
- JJayguy23, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"sad..." Man, have you seen the colorware iPods? Those are tight!
- astrotrain, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1sad...
- pevensen, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3This isn't even plausible. Apple has never shipped an iPod preloaded with anything, have they? The FairPlay DRM, and even the non-DRM premium content, all have the user's account email embedded in the ACC files. They couldn't do that preloaded.
At best, they would ship a coupon for the albums.
I wish people would think and come up with realistic rumors.- djbeeker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Apparently you've never heard of the U2 iPod, I believe there were several others as well. Research your argument points, there are many other implausible aspects of this story, especially the iPhone pic ;-)
- James_Dean, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3All this from Merlin Mann pulling a faux rumor out of his ass...
- cmf2010, on 10/11/2007, -1/+0so where's the new Forty Licks ipod???
- adamantium, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The Rolling Stones could lick the Beatles' arses forty times
- mwmccullough, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Damn I hope this dream comes true.
- superkendall, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1All I can say is, IF they offer the Beatles on iTunes, please let them also offer iTunes+ versions! I do have a number of CD's, but not everything and I wouldn't mind a few more tracks. I just don't want to buy them DRMed at lower quality.
- Shakermaker, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4Why would the Yellow Submarine iPod have a picture of the Beatles dressed in Sgt. Peppers outfits? Shouldn't it be the cartoon version?
Seriously cool if it were to happen, though! -
