- DanielPhermous, on 08/29/2009, -0/+21I hear Microsoft is frantically trying to add exploding batteries to the Zune to keep up.
- Astark, on 08/29/2009, -5/+25Most of the French armed forces have already surrendered to apple, and Paris is one faulty battery away from falling.
- Winkleman, on 08/28/2009, -2/+20There's an app for that.

- inactive, on 08/28/2009, -5/+11After reading the headlines on news.yahoo.com "Its not our fault!".
Sure, I believe you, its not Apples fault the batteries are blowing up in Europe. Just how its not Microsoft's fault that people write viruses that infect those Windows systems.
Don't be all surprised if the MS advertises the Zune as "Guaranteed not to explode in your face!". - Roy911, on 08/29/2009, -0/+5Um, pretty sure that thermometer app just fetches temperature off the net by the description..

no seriously, is there an app that can warn you of temperature increases in these things? - Kangaroux, on 08/29/2009, -0/+4Go away or I will taunt you a second time.
- richirwin, on 08/29/2009, -1/+5iPhones exploding in France.
Apple responds.
Sends more iPhones to France. - Arkveld, on 08/29/2009, -1/+4iBomb
- osko2052, on 08/29/2009, -1/+4What do you do then when the battery goes dead and you are nowhere near an outlet? What's your plan for that? It would be no problem for Apple to have a user replaceable battery. They just don't want to. Lithium ion batteries don't last 2-3 years Apple fanboy.
- freakFlag, on 08/29/2009, -0/+3Microsoft's marketing had better pick up the pace, I'm feeling a bit out in the cold as I'm waiting for advertisements of the new Zunes. Maybe the marketing department can't find their way through the cheeseburger wrappers and discarded condoms.

- osko2052, on 08/30/2009, -1/+3I refuse to dignify your post with a response. So far you have called me a ***** and a douche. I called you a fanboy which isn't even close to the abuse you dished out to me.
- MattStenning, on 08/29/2009, -0/+2mines been getting hot but hasn't exploded.. yet..

- PeterHerme, on 08/30/2009, -0/+1This is what happens when companies try to make smaller gadgets and cram old battery technology into them.
- osko2052, on 08/30/2009, -1/+2Yeah and how much bulk does that add to the phone? It's already too big, fanboy. I will stick with my blackberry with it's replaceable battery. I get 10-12 hours with constant data usage.
- Azsen, on 08/29/2009, -2/+3Get IBM to build the phones.
- iimjpii, on 08/29/2009, -1/+2It would need to have an internal thermometer... anyway, it doesn't look like there are too many instances of exploding phones that you should be that concerned.
- PeterHerme, on 08/30/2009, -0/+1Yeah I agree. It is strange that these cases are only reported in France. Only reports state side are of overheating iPhones.
- aristotle0dude, on 08/29/2009, -2/+3Ok guys, think about this for one minute. Why is this only happening in France and why in such small numbers? If it was a flaw, it should be occurring in larger numbers and in other countries.
What probably happened is some idiots placed their iPhone in their back pocket and cracked the backlight causing an explosion or the explosion of the backlight damaged the battery which then exploded. - inactive, on 08/29/2009, -0/+1I think making fun of hysteria is kind of the point.
- Myztry, on 08/30/2009, -0/+1I have this mental image of a room full of mousetraps and a ping pong ball...
- migitalwarfare, on 08/31/2009, -0/+1Based on an article I saw on here a couple months ago, the iPhone does have a built in safety shut off when the phone is outside of it's safe operating temperature. If you download iStat for the iPhone, you can tap into the temperature sensors that are built into the phone, as well.
So, yes, technically, "there's an app for that". - inactive, on 08/29/2009, -1/+1'thy?'
- osko2052, on 08/29/2009, -4/+4There's a simple answer for this. A replaceable battery. Of course that would ruin Apple's cash cow of replacing batteries.
- TheGuruStud, on 08/29/2009, -2/+2But are they going to take a vacation day and dance in the streets even though 250k germans....I mean iphone batteries are going to attack? Goddamn the french are dumb.
- Arkveld, on 08/29/2009, -1/+1Probably.
- MacParrot, on 08/29/2009, -2/+2Cash cow of replacing a battery every 2 to 3 years in a device that most people exchange after...2 to 3 years? Great business plan.
- flip2trip, on 08/30/2009, -1/+1Thy is the second person singular possessive pronoun. It would be correct to use the 3rd person plural possessive--they. Of course it could just be a typo and you aren't trying to talk in old English.
- SookIt, on 08/29/2009, -2/+2burn macboys, burn
- TheGuruStud, on 08/29/2009, -2/+1WTF are you talking about. #1 the french jumped in last minute to look good. #2 I'm talking about WWI. The british landed in france to attack the germans and the dumb ass french took holiday and danced in the streets. Would you be dancing in the streets if you're out manned and outgunned by germans that are ripping their way towards you? ***** no. I'd be running or building defenses.
British could have never won anyway. You can't win guerrilla warfare with infantry only on foreign soil (especially such a large area). It's physically impossible. Even if the US soldiers lost/were captured, the resistance would have ultimately defeated britain (and probably in a rather short amount of time since the british were too dumb to change strategies). - MacParrot, on 08/30/2009, -2/+1OK last try. Again how is this a cash cow for Apple? Parts and labor eat up almost the entire cost. With the Juicepak I'm getting about 2 days worth of use (though certainly not constant which I doubt you are either. 10-12 hours constantly on a phone really?)
If you like using your blackberry (which I have said nothing negative about) that's great. People should use the devices they enjoy no matter who makes them. And yes you are a douche. - MacParrot, on 08/30/2009, -2/+1Third party solutions to the rescue. Mophie Juice Pak air case and battery. Look it up. 2 to 3 times the battery life over the 3GS's alone (which isn't that impressive granted). And unless you're in the middle of a pasture or live in North Korea, when are you really away from some kind of power? Most smartphone's power doesn't last very long if you're using it for anything other than being a phone. No matter as it doesn't address your absurd notion that somehow inconveniencing users over a battery makes for big profits for Apple. A stupid idea that you're dancing around trying to justify.
Also, calling someone a fanboy for disagreeing with you is so last year...*****. - MacParrot, on 08/30/2009, -2/+1Of course you do because your original statement is absurd. And instead of trying to defend it or acknowledge that you could have been mistaken (either would have been a welcome change from talking about bulk which is ludicrous considering the small sizes of RIM and Apple smartphones) you just have to throw out "fanboy" like that explains anything. Don't get into a discussion or argument you aren't willing to back up or back down from.
- BossKey, on 08/29/2009, -3/+1What tired cliches.
America might not have been able to exist at all if we hadn't gotten critical help from the French to beat the English during the Revolutionary War.

"From the outbreak of armed rebellion in 1775, many in France sympathized with the colonists. Young, idealistic French officers like the Marquis de Lafayette volunteered their services and in many cases their personal wealth to help equip, train and lead the fledgling Continental army...French military aid was also a decisive factor in the American victory...against the British." -
