That is the consumer byline of the century.- skunkman62, on 10/22/2007, -1/+18The near fatal car accident was caused when Evila was searching for his ipod and chatting on his cell phone while driving. Evila said " Now that I have the iphone, I can have one hand on the steering wheel. God bless you Steve Jobs!."

- mrbad101, on 10/22/2007, -12/+18You clearly are braindead if you think the iPhone is better than an 8525.
- espire, on 10/22/2007, -2/+1I see what you did there.
- RedHerringHack, on 10/22/2007, -1/+2Wait, dude. What?
- streak, on 10/22/2007, -6/+6Oh, I must have missed the news while in my 8525-induced coma. Does pocket IE now render web pages correctly? Have the myriad of buttons that too often get accidentally pressed somehow disappeared? Did the slip-out keyboard somehow lose its mushy feel? Is it now possible to disable the ringer without pulling the 8525 out of one's pocket? Is a stylus no longer needed for carrying out so many functions? Does the 8525 now support multi-touch or are tiny scroll bars still used? I could go on with all of the news I must have missed.
- Nysul, on 11/07/2007, -0/+3pocket IE sucks I will give you that. However, I do enjoy mobile versions of some sites, as they load fast and cut the BS, but I would love to have safari for wm6. I have NEVER accidently pressed a button with either the 8525 or the Tilt, so that issue it moot. The slip out keyboard doesn't have a mushy feel, and unlike most smartphone it is actually a decent size; enough so that using it is functional. As for the ringer I don't know what you are talking about, there are a plethora of options for sound schemes, especially with 3rd party software (but not required). Tiny scroll bars are still used but it has a scrollwheel, which is very functional; rarely do I encounter a situation where I need a stylus.
Also the 8525/Tilt has 3G and AD2P (I don't know why the iphone doesn't have this), but is bulkier. For me both 3G and AD2P were mandatory, so at this time I am not getting an iphone.

- kindwarrior, on 10/23/2007, -15/+167yeah, I liked it; More as a human interest story than an Apple one; Although it was awfully nice what the local Apple store did -- much more human than throwing money at him.
- sbgskl, on 10/22/2007, -13/+3There is nothing nice about a lie. The road to hell is paved with good intentions. Can you believe how devastated the man will be when he learns it was a fraud? He should learn that the WORLD GOES ON WITHOUT YOU.

- burgerboy06, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2actually it may be set up, the picture that is. That is not the Apple Store in Chandler. It may be the scottsdale apple store. That apple store looks nothing like the one in Chandler. The story may be true, kinda, but pics of him getting it for real or it may not have happened.
- 1337pino, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3Lol, engadget just debunked this fake story. Yeah, that's not the store in Chandler because the whole story is fake.

- narcofiche, on 10/22/2007, -3/+12I would feel like an idiot if i went to an apple store to wait in line knowing the date is long passed, having the Apple store greet me like i was the only person in line, AND think it's all real. I mean, he's either extremely dumb already or this is fake.
- KSUdesigner, on 10/24/2007, -9/+17"I mean, he's either extremely dumb already or this is fake."

- Roads01, on 10/26/2007, -42/+30This is a sad example of how the things we own, end up owning us.
- RedHerringHack, on 10/22/2007, -1/+2Naaaa, not really. When you lose it all, you see none of it ever really mattered. It's not the *stuff*, it's the *experience*. I have never missed anything when I lost it, except there was this girl one time..... and then we had a lot of kids, the end.
- Makr, on 10/23/2007, -9/+37Does it really matter if it was real? to the guy it was, so what's the problem? besides anything that helps you get through recovery is always a good thing.
- ismith, on 10/21/2007, -1/+2Because some people would feel like ***** from embarrassment. It might have helped him get through recovery, but it could damage his friendship for a little while. I know plenty of people who would think I was an ***** for faking them out like that.
- zongamin, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1because its a parody you cretin
- uscfan7690, on 10/22/2007, -7/+139Best hope he doesn't use Digg, eh?
- manitoba98xp, on 10/22/2007, -2/+43Or ever Google himself, since all of Google's results for "Geoff Evila" are this story.
- tonich03, on 10/22/2007, -3/+2"Google himself". I'm scared, have you ever seen him in person? What kind of a guy is he?
- Dongvid, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2He probably looks like Gman. Or even the architect.
- adrianmonk, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1Well, he's kind of a minimalist, and he tends to dress exclusively in bright hues of blue, red, yellow, and green, although sometimes on holidays he wears a costume. But no matter what someone says, he always seems to have something relevant to say in response.
- DjArcadian, on 10/26/2007, -52/+16This story is pathetic.
- Jok3r, on 10/22/2007, -7/+27Your pathetic. The man wanted an iPhone and he was in an accident. The Apple Store went along with it and made him happy for a few minutes. The store could of not done anything and just say they dont make special requests for people and just treated him normaly. I respect the store for putting effort into this.
- DjArcadian, on 10/22/2007, -1/+2No, this simply illustrates the materialistic and shallow nature of our society. A man is in a coma for 4 months and the first thing he thinks of when waking up is that he wants a ***** iPhone? Sorry, I don't buy into hype and distractions.
- llamaguy132, on 10/22/2007, -7/+5shouldn't there be more important things to catch up on after missing 4 months?
and how stupid does he have to be not to know that months after the iphone's release they wouldnt still be cheering you when you buy one.
ITS A ***** PHONE! sure its nice and has some great innovations in it, but how does that compare to 4 months of much more important news?- KSUdesigner, on 10/22/2007, -3/+6Well now he can use his iPhone to browse the 4 months of news he missed in Safari. Leave the poor kid alone.
- llamaguy132, on 10/22/2007, -1/+1a valid point... in fact.... i could use an iphone to do that... i should get one! if only there was something that did the same thing that right in front of me right now
- llamaguy132, on 10/22/2007, -1/+1a valid point... in fact.... i could use an iphone to do that... i should get one! if only there was something that did the same thing that right in front of me right now
- uncommonsmoke, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2Finally, somebody that sees the reality of the situation. Wake up people! We truly do live in a material world.
- KSUdesigner, on 10/22/2007, -3/+6Well now he can use his iPhone to browse the 4 months of news he missed in Safari. Leave the poor kid alone.
- ashrafneo, on 10/22/2007, -0/+3you guys are all retarded this is a fake story some stupid bs u guys are arguing about never even happened use some ***** common sense.

- Makr, on 10/22/2007, -4/+44Says the guy who wasn't in a coma.
- WardC, on 10/23/2007, -13/+194and remember, he also saved $200 !! :-P
- blamebla, on 10/22/2007, -3/+40You know his friend that set up the fake launch day kept the extra $200. He had to to keep the "realism".
- JustinHorne, on 10/23/2007, -4/+74""Geoff believes it's real, so that makes it real," said Denots'
You don't think he kinda suspects? It's that, or Apple employees do nothing but cheer iPhone purchasers all day.- cmpshotty, on 10/22/2007, -4/+7He's been in a coma for 4 months, there's probably brain damage there and he might not realize it's not real.
- shinynew, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1the geoff evila is a lie!
- cycledesign, on 10/22/2007, -1/+15cmpshotty's actually right. People who come out of comas don't just snap awake like they do on tv. It can take months of training before they can do anything normal (walk, talk, etc.). Many coma sufferers report that when they initially wake up, they feel like they're in a dream and refuse to believe that anything is real. I think that it'd be just as easy to think that the fake things are real as it would be to think that the real things are fake. Having your brain shut down for months or years at a time can do strange things.
- RedHerringHack, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3"Having your brain shut down for months or years at a time can do strange things."
Just ask GWB. oooohhhh. See what I did there?- adrianmonk, on 10/22/2007, -0/+0You offered proof that the phrase "i see what you did there" has jumped the shark? :-)
- RedHerringHack, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3"Having your brain shut down for months or years at a time can do strange things."
- cmpshotty, on 10/22/2007, -4/+7He's been in a coma for 4 months, there's probably brain damage there and he might not realize it's not real.
- Zap2, on 10/23/2007, -7/+33wait, it said the guy got out of his coma, and was like "Darn, missed the iPhone launch"
So he went to get one, and it was set up like launch day, and he was fooled....but didn't he wake up and remembered he already missed the launch day?- stellarceltic, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3I don't think he remembers how it was on launch day...
- superkendall, on 10/22/2007, -1/+10The story said he knew he missed the launch day - what he doesn't realize what set up is the rsponse the Apple store gave hime when he bought his, he just figured it was like that for anyone. It was his friends way of helping him expereince a little of the magic from launch day when he couldn't be there in person.
- turpenine, on 10/22/2007, -2/+8correct, they don't usually cheer when you get an iphone. they just sort of say, oh, ok, here you go.
- xtc46, on 10/22/2007, -1/+7damn...and I was about to go get one. I wonder if they will cheer for me if I ask nicely.
- shinynew, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1@xtc46
you can pretend that they did if you make up a story and post it online with absolutely no sources.
- turpenine, on 10/22/2007, -2/+8correct, they don't usually cheer when you get an iphone. they just sort of say, oh, ok, here you go.
- najdorf, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3"Denots did not have the courage to inform his best friend that the Apple Store scene was a set up"
I wouldn't call having people cheer him a "setup"... OMG THOSE GUYS CHEERED ME, THEY SET ME UP, THOSE BASTARDS!
- kidjay, on 10/22/2007, -19/+4@ DjArcadian
how is it pathetic? how can you whittle this down to that?
people have an interest in technology. especially groundbreakingly cool technology that changes the way things are done. the guy was excited about the iphone...a lot of people were. ass.- Shiner6, on 10/22/2007, -2/+13What's pathetic is your inability to click "Reply to this comment"
- ericdano, on 10/23/2007, -4/+15Great story. Hope the guy makes a full recovery.
- bekind, on 10/22/2007, -0/+0He probably won't be able to, my iphone lost all its data when I updated to 1.1.1, but only part of my data was recovered:(
- zongamin, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1i hope you make a full recovery from being retarded
- mlerner, on 10/23/2007, -7/+10Let's hope he later doesn't get on the internet and find out it was released months ago.

- YoureAllSoDumb, on 10/22/2007, -1/+16Yea, that's exactly like going into a coma for 4 months.
- shinynew, on 10/23/2007, -2/+9dugg because your name goes so well with your comment.
- chris9902, on 10/22/2007, -18/+8If the most important thing in your life was the iPhone maybe you were better off in the coma.
- arcticblue, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1I don't know why you got dugg down so much. People are all over this FAKE story digging it up and praising the iPhone forgetting the fact that the only thing this guy really seems to care about is... a cell phone.
- voteforblank, on 10/22/2007, -29/+16My Mother was in Coma for a couple of weeks after a stroke... let me tell all you 'pricks'... When someone survives a Health ordeal such as Coma, Strokes, and other SERIOUS health issues... it makes a difference to them to feel GREAT about something... even if it's 'staged' a bit. His friend made a huge difference for him by creating an environment that made this guy feel GREAT... it can make all the difference in the World for some people. In this case it did!!
Geoff did the 'Right Thing'. And all you boners who jerk off to someone Else's misfortune... I hope you too are in the same situation and there is NO ONE to Make Your Day when you have to live through a serious health issue... one that change you for the rest of your lives.- Mononuclear, on 10/22/2007, -3/+22I was with you up until you started wishing that other people were in the same situation and had no one there for them.. You my friend are the prick.
- colinbrady, on 10/22/2007, -3/+9Sorry about your mom, but you're a sadistic ass.
- cmpshotty, on 10/22/2007, -2/+11Damn, I feel sorry for your mother. Not that she was in a coma, but that she instead woke up to you.
- codered1322, on 10/21/2007, -1/+3Did your Mom fall into a coma after reading one of your writings that was littered with words in all capital, incorrect usage of the apostrophe, and capitalization of random words?
And you are an ass. - voteforblank, on 10/22/2007, -6/+1You idiots who dug me down... are the same pussies that jerk off to someone else's misfortue... I could give a ***** about those who don't care about others. But it's the people who reach out and make a difference in someone's life that are the real people. You all voted for Bush. Pussies.
- CATSCEO, on 10/22/2007, -0/+3WTF is wrong with you? You need to see a doctor or something...

- brwright, on 10/22/2007, -7/+3Too bad his new cellular provider blacks out all the time...
- turpenine, on 10/21/2007, -2/+2i've never had at&t black out.
- supermanred, on 10/21/2007, -3/+2AT&T runs most of the internet, and locally in Toronto it's Rogers/AT&T service is actually pretty damn good. You must live in *****, USA population: 50 cel antennas: 1
- Speed, on 10/21/2007, -1/+3Maybe it's different in Toronto, but AT&T isn't involved with Rogers Wireless anymore.
- chkdg8, on 10/23/2007, -2/+2What are you kidding? Good ending to a great story! Truth is stranger than fiction and sometimes we need stories like these to realize the little things. Just don't let me find out it was all a publicity stunt. I swear I'll kick somebody's ass.
- zongamin, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1consider kicking ***** out of yourself - its a parody site jerk
- NeonElixir, on 10/22/2007, -2/+5I expected this to end up with him getting a free iPhone, but I think this is probably cooler :o)
- blazes816, on 10/23/2007, -4/+13Although the iPhone is far from the first thing I would think about after coming out of a coma, that is super badass of his friend and the apple store.
- turpenine, on 10/21/2007, -0/+2It probably wasn't the first thing, but within the first week of sitting around doing nothing in a hospital, it probably crossed his mind.
- HenvY, on 10/23/2007, -10/+15If after a near death experience and a lengthy coma your instincts are to go and purchase that iphone you wanted, what does it say about you as a person? This guy should be cherishing his second chance, living life to the full, not embracing mindless materialism.
- amneosis, on 10/22/2007, -7/+11dude, it's a phone, and iPod and an internet communications device. A phone. An iPod. A beakthrough internet device.
A PHONE AN iPOD... - Makr, on 10/22/2007, -2/+9Your mind does strange things when you come out of a coma, and you generally do whatever you can to help the person through the time it takes to adjust.
If buying an iPhone before the coma was important to him, why shouldn't it be after? - turpenine, on 10/22/2007, -3/+8maybe living life to the fullest is to have an iphone?
materialism would be... a gold plated iphone. - SaintStryfe, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3Man, it's easy to say that when you haven't had that experience. Of course you enjoy life. You also enjoy your things more, too. You sit there and mope about "mindless materialism", real people can enjoy all the great aspects of life, materialism included.
- amneosis, on 10/22/2007, -7/+11dude, it's a phone, and iPod and an internet communications device. A phone. An iPod. A beakthrough internet device.
- ShloppyJoe, on 10/22/2007, -13/+8Poor guy. he should go back to sleep until iPhone v2 comes out with good features.
- Pic0, on 10/23/2007, -3/+52i heard he used the coma to get out of his verizon contract...
- davidpower, on 10/22/2007, -1/+0thats so wrong yet so funny
- Dawson1066, on 10/23/2007, -3/+69The story is a goof, guys. It never happened.
- amneosis, on 10/22/2007, -3/+4I really wouldn't be surprised, I remember reading a similar story around the time of Phantom Menace.
- nitrokev, on 10/22/2007, -5/+19it must have happened I can see a picture :)
- rajun50, on 10/22/2007, -1/+20a fake picture... http://www.noelgreen.com/2007/07/using-the-iphone. ...
- absameen, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4The fake names kind of gave it away. Evila = Alive, Denots = Stoned
- sethosayher, on 10/23/2007, -5/+1Great story. I really hope he doesn't stumble on this article on his Iphone though...
- shinynew, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2yes i love fiction.
- Moviespo, on 10/22/2007, -6/+4Reminds me of the episode of South Park when they featured the Nintendo WII
- insomniac8400, on 10/22/2007, -1/+4It's got motion sensing controllers you ass.
- BHSPitMonkey, on 10/23/2007, -0/+3Reminds me of the first comment on this story.
- canthraxp, on 10/22/2007, -1/+3I had a "Good bye Lenin" flashback with this article.
- DephexTwin, on 10/21/2007, -0/+2Exactly! So did I.
- Leadhyena, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1Except that I'd prefer that the only thing that happened to me while I was in the coma was just the release of some new electronics, not the complete change of government. And besides, there could never be enough writers to refake the pre-iPhone hype to a bedridden coma recovery patient.
- OneOfTheElect, on 10/23/2007, -3/+3wow, that guy has a really nice friend
(....maybe i should jump off digg for a bit) - spadgos, on 10/23/2007, -2/+14evila = alive, backwards. just sayin'
- Hobofuzz, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1And Denots backwards is stoned.
- qwertyuio, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2And together they spell... stoned alive. This story is a joke, the picture is just taken from somewhere else. And yet i'm still inspired.
- livingwater, on 10/23/2007, -2/+14There's more to life than iLife. There's windows, linux, sex, etc.
- andycr512, on 10/22/2007, -2/+5iAgree.
- Xolotl2, on 10/22/2007, -0/+1KAgree

- Weebs43, on 10/22/2007, -1/+9Do you always censor your own comments?
- Billions, on 10/22/2007, -1/+7I'm guessing you would not, actually.
- ubergeek09, on 10/23/2007, -4/+4Wow, I would be happy if I missed the iPhone launch the Apple fanboy gathering was horrifying.
- Billions, on 10/22/2007, -1/+4To which, kind sir, I reply: "Your moms is whorifying!"
- theradical, on 10/22/2007, -8/+3Good to see there is no skewed sense of priority or importance in this man's life.
- oxygen911, on 10/23/2007, -4/+12"...his last Verizon phone sucked"
Aaaaaamen. - bingobongony, on 10/22/2007, -9/+7IT is sad to see that his brain apparently still has damage.
- twishart, on 10/22/2007, -8/+3Dugg for just being a great ***** story. I don't own anything bearing the Apple insignia, but go Apple. It's good that the friends approached the store, not vice versa.
- Touchy610, on 10/22/2007, -0/+4It's a fake story.
- DiggzDE, on 10/22/2007, -6/+10In other news:
"Man wakes from Coma, Buys I-phone, Bricks it, Sues Apple." - l00s3r, on 10/22/2007, -2/+12I'm glad he recovered his consumer brand identity.
- rsc0, on 10/22/2007, -0/+2its consumer brand *religion*
- daxsymbiont, on 10/23/2007, -15/+8proof apple users are the stupidest people on the face of the planet earth.
- Billions, on 10/22/2007, -3/+5That makes no sense other than just affirming that you hate Apple users. Booooooorrrrrrrrinnng...
- notfred, on 10/22/2007, -1/+2... except that the story is bogus!
- Billions, on 10/22/2007, -3/+5That makes no sense other than just affirming that you hate Apple users. Booooooorrrrrrrrinnng...
- kriminalintent, on 10/21/2007, -0/+1i dont know of many other companys that would take this as truth, im glade they helped out and decided to make an event out of it.
- dreamersrevenge, on 10/23/2007, -4/+4Jesus H.. Next we'll have "man wakes up from the dead because someone in hell told him about the iPhone" I own macs and like apple to an extent, but these iPhone stories are getting F'ing ridiculous.
- insomniac8400, on 10/22/2007, -5/+4Did this guy wake up with down syndrome? All you have to do is going online and do a little searching to know the iphone sucks and apple ***** it.
I have a feeling the picture of this duche bag is going to end up captioned and abused on the internet. -
