- jdm7, on 05/10/2008, -2/+78Don't think for one minute that this is an accident or a miscalculation in the supply chain. All part of Apple's marketing strategy to create a greater demand for the next iPhone release.
- lorductape, on 05/10/2008, -1/+65The estimates of a June launch for the 3G iphone have to be wrong; with even the online apple stores out of stock, there is no way apple can go a month without selling an iPhone.
- MurphyMac, on 05/10/2008, -2/+58Apple is making it crystal-clear, don't buy an iPhone now, there's something better coming. They're being smart, trying to protect themselves from the crybabies wanting refunds. But watch, there will *still* be tears.
- bigandy, on 05/10/2008, -1/+38can we kick you in the nuts anyway?
- inactive, on 05/10/2008, -3/+35dont get your hopes up. if apple announces the next iphone without a press event you can each kick me in the nuts.
- sk11, on 05/10/2008, -1/+27Clearly, apple are taking tips from nintendo.
- codyman, on 05/10/2008, -3/+26someone somewhere will go into an apple store when a new one comes out and will say "I bought this iPhone last June, can I trade it for the new one?" and will be dead serious about it, and will be puzzled when Apple says "No"
- inactive, on 05/10/2008, -1/+19Yeah because the value of Xboxes went through the roof when the 360 came out.
- Jambi, on 05/10/2008, -2/+19To be honest, I don't think they can go a week without selling one. I expect the announcement this Tuesday.
- bequity, on 05/10/2008, -1/+16The 3G iPhone in May rumor that was put out a couple of weeks back may actually be true!
http://switchtoamac.com/site/3g-iphone-in-may-new- ... - priegog, on 05/10/2008, -3/+17$200? are you on crack? keep dreaming.
- TROY7, on 05/10/2008, -1/+13I'd love for Apple to do the same thing they did for the first iPhone with the second iPhone, announce it before they release it, so I can camp out for one! That's so much fun!
- zackkitzmiller, on 05/10/2008, -1/+15They don't have any at the ATT store in my town either..
- Tyr7BE, on 05/10/2008, -1/+13They sure are. They invented this strategy, you know. Along with the black turtleneck and blue jeans.
- louiebaur, on 05/10/2008, -0/+9They have something up their sleeve for sure
- TROY7, on 05/10/2008, -0/+8If that was the case, wouldn't they have sent out invitations to the press by now?
- Horonto, on 05/10/2008, -1/+9No iPhones available in Canada either. Been like that for a while.
- Jvskill, on 05/10/2008, -0/+10I don't understand how so many people can bitch about wanting to be able to trade-in with ANY Apple product. Hasn't anyone learned their lesson with the iPods?
- thebuggalo, on 05/10/2008, -0/+7Exactly. Since when in the history of consumer electronics has Apple said, "Give us back the old version and get the new one for a fraction of the price." They are running a business. You think you should get a free pass to the latest and greatest just because you bought an iphone last year? Well then, tell Apple to replace my Macbook with a newer one.
- AceTracer, on 05/10/2008, -2/+8I'm already hearing it. At another messageboard someone said "Apple better be providing trade-in upgrades" for his iPhone purchased last year.
- inactive, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5negatory
- Crossmenjeff, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5clearing inventory before the push for the new product. smart practice. they want you to wait so you don't b*tch about buying it right before a newer better cheaper version comes out. less paperwork to fill out later. maybe i shall purchase iphone gen 2
- badtzmartin, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5...and the Zune is fighting an uphill battle in the first place...
- Dohko_Xar, on 05/10/2008, -0/+5It's as simple as getting rid of the old stuff to make some space for the new iPhone. Do you really think Apple wants to have a bunch of old iPhones when the new one arrives?
- swook, on 05/11/2008, -0/+5Well, for starters, they don't seem to be for sale...
- CC440, on 05/10/2008, -2/+7Microsoft did it with the Zune, but not because they love the customers. The Zune sucked so horribly in its 1.0 configuration that if Microsoft didn't make it firmware 2.0 ready or allow owners to trade it in the media and owners would have eaten them alive.
- mciampa1214, on 05/10/2008, -0/+4It's not a conspiracy, or corporate greed. It's free advertising.
- tech42er, on 05/11/2008, -0/+4And the printing press.
- tech42er, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3Then they'll complain about it on the Consumerist.
- filemeaway, on 05/10/2008, -1/+4Do you even know what that means?
- TROY7, on 05/11/2008, -0/+3Are you paying any attention at all?
- blaquekyd, on 05/10/2008, -1/+5i wonder how this will effect the price of the current generation of iphones.
- DeadeyeDick, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2I say that's the best comment I've read all day.
- Necho, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2I hope they update the update/cut prices of the Touch too. I've really been wanting one of those.
- Jawshey, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2I've always been a fan of the iPhone, but in the UK, people aren't that happy with the 'sell your soul' contract that is bundled with it. Which is kinda why they never really took off here. We were never happy with contracts that end up over £500 (and the iPhone was nearing £800 when first launched in the UK) with the worst deals ever on. You could tell that 02 was trying to milk the Apple fans for every penny they had on the latest gadget.
Hopefully, price-cuts might help make the iPhone as big of success in the UK as it is in the US, but until price is considered, it is unlikely that it'll be as major hit here as it is in America.
Jawsh - transversed, on 05/11/2008, -0/+2you can probably just switch the sim cards. thats what they did when they had to replace mine.
- ckubal, on 05/10/2008, -1/+4how difficult do you think it will be to transfer the service from a gen1 iPhone to a gen2, if second gen requires a contract at the reduced price point? 8gb iPhones on eBay are still going for $350 used, but I don't want to get trapped into two extra years with AT&T on top of the year I already have from the first iPhone...
- DaviDaviDaviD, on 05/10/2008, -0/+2My local 02 store (the UK carrier) is out too. Something is up for sure because they always have an iPhone board in the front window and they have taken it down....
- HydrogenOxide, on 05/10/2008, -2/+4My Sprint contract ends in 2 months.
How coincidental. - Archaic1, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Yes, the lesson is never to buy any product because a better one is only a few months away. And *definetely* don't buy that one because the one after will be...
- tacojohn48, on 05/10/2008, -2/+4They could conceivably do some sort of trade allowance. If not then I bet you could get a decent resale price on it.
- websyndicate, on 05/10/2008, -2/+3gezz can u feel the hype and tension.
- bjornski, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1IT'S A CONSPIRACY!
- blaquekyd, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1there are still a bunch floating around on ebay and craigslist
- fmorel90, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1In May?
Maybe in November or December, but not May. There's nothing in May. - transversed, on 05/11/2008, -0/+111 hours later... currently unavailable
- tech42er, on 05/11/2008, -0/+1Please. You think Apple needs to astroturf? They have more than enough Apple consumers willing to vouch for them.
