- rlindsley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+33Isn't it ironic that an Apple II emulator *requires* Windows?
- kLacK, on 10/12/2007, -3/+19Hmm active X
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16thats the same thing I thougt. An apple 2 emulator that only runs on IE and windows. ***** up.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+13OREGON TRAIL!!!!!!
HELL YEAH! - alej744, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10Um, yeah how do Mac users get to try this out...? Huh?
ActiveX sucks! - fishmasta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9If you download the disks, you can run them using this Apple II emulator for windows.
http://applewin.berlios.de/ - antdude, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10Yeah, the only bad thing.
Oregon Trail FTW. ;) - vudicarus, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8yes! karateka
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8I used that recently to play Oregon Trail. I finally made it as the Farmer, with all party members alive and in "fair" health, an achievement never before seen whilst I was in grade school.
- joshcook83, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6i can't run the apple emulator on my macbook? bizzarre.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Must be a new way of getting more 'switchers'
(snicker)
I totally agree, I'm about to boot into Parallels myself. - ray023, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7I still love those Sierra Games:
Space Quest
Police Quest
LSL
"Open Door"
"Look Room"
"Get Key" - brianez21, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6A few months ago I dusted off my dad's old Apple ][ and plugged it into my television. I was amazed to see that the unit still worked. It had two floppy drives, a modem, dos card, and some other things with it...It was even case-modded! Sadly, the floppies were kept in plastic containers which melted onto the disks rendering them unusable. Still, writing a program in BASIC just like my dad had done when he was my age was really fun! :-)
- superyorch, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6HARD HAT MACK!!! YES!!!!!!!!!!
- Swailcat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6WINGS OF FURY. That is all.
- SPNKrPunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Shouldn't this rip a hole in the local fabric of spacetime? An Apple II online emulator that requires Windows seems just...wrong. Like violation of the laws of physics wrong.
- alexsantos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6Yes!
Lode Runner, never had an Apple II. I had an Atari so this should be a nice way to check it all out. For what it's worth I have been using macs since '87 - JamesWilson, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5What's bad about it? You have to use IE. IE doesn't have tabs, and has lots of security issues, and doesn't have adblock. If the provider of this site decides to put up 3rd party ads, and the provider of the ads inserts exploits to take over your computer and install spyware, or keyloggers, or trojans, or worse..then you become pwned. Wouldn't be the first time. Excite and MySpace have done similar.
- agimat, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5You can find the biggest repository of apple ][ disk images here:
ftp://ftp.apple.asimov.net/pub/apple_II/images
Works very well with Applewin. I saw a link to it somewhere above this thread (or check out the Emulators folder on the same ftp site).
Captain Goodnight, Robotron and Dung Beetles FTW! - strawberry, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5There's also a nice little app called OSXII that allows you to run old Apple ][ ROMs when you're somewhere without net access. The page for OSXII is at http://apple2.intergalactic.de/.
- JudgeMonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Yea, I'm usually hesitant to install activex, or for that matter even use IE, but replaying Oregon trail is too good to pass up.
Fart died on me and now Ugly has the measles.... nice to see how things have completely failed to change since elementary school. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Why is it a bad thing? It's bringing Apple ][e computing to us. So what if you can do nasty things with it. It's not being used for evil in this case, is it?
- tlog333, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4This is amazing! I just played Lemonade Stand for the first time in a few decades! That game is where I chiseled my teeth (can one chisel their teeth?) on modern capitalist practices that got me to where I am today.
Does anyone know the name of the game where you were in a high school? It was a basic text navigation system and you could goa round and perform certain tasks. I remember the high school bathroom seemed like a scary place to me as a child. - JackAxe, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7Here's a C64 emulator done with ActionScript 3, so requires Flash 9. Something else to check out.
http://codeazur.com.br/stuff/fc64_final/ - LoungeActx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Yeah...does anyone else find it ironic that Mac users can't view this?
- LowFuel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Rescue Raiders!
- twitndiggfan, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Works great, I use Virtual Apple to get the images and run them on OSXII
- sliderocity, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This won't run on my Mac. Oh...the bitter, bitter irony.
- stevetures, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4shouldn't be a problem... most of that stuff is abandonware...
not like you can buy that version anymore... - tange1, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3and one hour of study time is lost to Oregon Trail...
- ucbrave92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3If anyone can remember the old game where you played a slave and tried to escape to the north please, do tell. i have been looking for it forever and can't find it.
- flamingmb, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I need to go get my onld apple 2e from my grandparents. I would love to have back.
- alsundma, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dogfight! The only game I ever missed the bus for. SWEET!
- bearcubdvm, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Anyone ever wanting to try out the acclaimed Pirates! by Sid Meier ought to check this out...
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3wow, they have dino eggs!!!...
IE ONLY!!! - Skeuomorph, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3The mouse joystick emulation specifies ALT keys as joystick buttons. The ALT key makes IE7 show/hide menu bar, bouncing the game screen up and down by the menu bar height -- awfully annoying.
Other than that, wow, hadn't played Star Thief since 1982 or so. - zarex, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Did you ever notice that the "m" in Lemonade pretty clearly pees into the glass?
- nobogeys217, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2there was actually one in my schools computer lab last year. someone found it in the basement of the school. they got it and started it up. it was pretty cool to see it still working.
- Bobski, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Obviously no one here could possibly relive an experience they never had, which seems like just about everyone.
If you don't know it's spelled Apple ][, you have nothing to relive. - Manwhore, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Where's Logo? I used to LOVE drawing with that triangle turtle thingy.
- stevetures, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3For those with the disks still sitting around (need to fly home and get that old box out)

- usergentoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Works good on gentoo/wine.
I seen an online flash version of this once upon a time (about a year ago) . It was found after looking thru 30+ pages in google when searching for a certain emulator. Went back the next day and couldnt find it by searching apple emulator. The only reason why I used it cause it half-ass worked on the PSP and was really interesting, played a few games on it like karateka. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Mac OS X Apple II emulator (OSXII) : http://apple2.intergalactic.de/
Linux Apple II emulator (xapple2): http://www.mrob.com/pub/xapple2/index.html - m0bitz, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Thanks for the karateka demo! Brings back memories.
I once made a music video for my girlfriend at the time, with video output from Karateka and Taylor Dayne's "Through the Fire" as the music.
It made sense to me then. - LowFuel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2One of my favs too. :)
- oOLiquidNightOo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2my apple old skool favorites were: creature venture, droll, miner 2049'er, wizardry & star blazer. i'd love to find (and play) creature venture again.
- kimrules, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3The best Apple II emulator for Mac is Virtual ][:
http://www.xs4all.nl/~gp/VirtualII/
It even makes the sound of the disks being inserted when you swap them.
To complete the deal listen to an Apple II PODCAST:
http://www.monsterfeet.com/1mhz/
Which has a site that looks like it was made on an Apple II. -
