- gbeirne, on 10/12/2007, -6/+43Viewing that screenshot while running Nocturne was probably one of the more pointless things I've ever done.
- jjk5, on 10/12/2007, -0/+19@LeMarsu
Found this by searching for the app on Flickr:
http://www.flickr.com/photos/modrak/491862024/ - tdhc, on 10/12/2007, -1/+18Normally with an application like this I install it, check it out for a maximum of about 30 seconds, realise I'll never use it and zap it.
I installed and have been running Nocturne for the last 5 mins and it's fantastic! Easy on the eyes; love the tinting and hiding the desktop picture. - chrismcelligott, on 10/12/2007, -4/+17I wouldn't call 43folders lame but yeah it is annoying.
- Beelzebub, on 10/12/2007, -4/+1743folders is NOT a lame ass-blog!
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12In 20 year your fingers are going to.. lock up.
- jm9206755, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Read the article. Nocturne has some improvements.....
- LeMarsu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9is there a Screen shot ?
- cliffy2000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7From the article, 2nd paragraph: "For years, you’ve been able to do something similar by hitting “ctrl-opt-cmd-8,” which invokes “Switch to black-on-white” in Universal Access options (go ahead and try it, then hit it again to return to normal)."
- bigcheez, on 10/12/2007, -8/+14Is there anything like this for Windows?
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10Don't know about Windows but Beryl in Linux does.
- reconfine, on 10/12/2007, -13/+19apple + option + ctrl + 8
why do you need an application to do this???????? - jonconnelly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Uh.. News » Technology » Apple
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5windows has been able to alter the saturation and other colour data of its desktop in real time for ages?
DONT THINK SO
and no high contrast theme doesn't count, its not the same thing - readme, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5This is awesome. Was always looking for something like this to not wake up the SO with monitor glare.
- agorstan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Yes, Dark Adapted - http://www.adpartnership.net/DarkAdapted/index.html - made for astronomers to prevent night vision loss when using your laptop in the field.
- Pulpx, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@cookiebearo
You realize you can get the monochrome effect without invert by using nocturne's preferences right? No need to ctrl-opt-cmd-8. - jm9206755, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It doesn't matter if it is a blog or not. The article was informative and the app looks pretty decent. Stop being an *****.
- w3bsmith, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5You can really get dugg down for saying cool? Snobs ...
- j0hnc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I've always been a fan of coding in trog mode. I tried ctrl-option-apple-8, and inverted colors were just too distracting. Monochrome + tinting really makes this work. My only complaint: I use 2 monitors and I miss the tinting on the secondary. Otherwise, this app is excellent. I'm also a devoted Quicksilver fan - Blacktree is good.
- klaupacius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2This kicks butt! Im a fan of regular inverted view, and this turns up the good and turns down the suck of the purple/turquise colours on the black backgrounds. PROPS!
- cookiebearo, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4try running nocturne and then doing the ctrl-opt-apple-8 -- awesome monochrome display!
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3@tofucomputer

so, want to spout more drivel tofucomputer? - tobsterius, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Cool little app. Features like this were built into stargazing and computer telescope control apps for quite some time. They would turn the screen into a red color so that astronomers can look at the screen and return to the scope without having to wait for their eyes to adjust. I forget if they inverted the screen.
Also, small apps similar to this have existed for the Mac, but this one is nicest. And free, too! - SVPirate, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2You can invert the screen but OS X doesn't let you control the colour shade and effects like Nocturne.
Even if you don't find it useful (and I doubt many will) it does at least prove how utter cool OS X's screen engine is... - jm9206755, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3People who own a Mac, maybe? Not every article has to cater to your particular tastes or needs. Get a life and next time just don't look at the article.
- cookiebearo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1:<
ya i guess so
i didn't play around with it long enough, hehe - Odweaver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1there is an option in system preferences that does almost the same thing minus the different tinted colors, I bound it to F8
- j2crux, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1i dunno i think i could see a use for this. I just tried it, it's much prettier than the apple etc 8 command. it has monochrome which i would assume have better use if the sun was behind you.
- guttertrash, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2nice for war driving at night :P
- MacNTT, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I like it!
- lmadsen10, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Why won't this app open for me? I click on it and nothing happens?! There is nothing on the website about system requirements, maybe it doesn't run on 10.3.9?
- EdgeOfEpsilon, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1seems like the only nifty thing is that it tints. You an invert colors and go monochrome from the Accessibility Preferences, and I've killed shadows since the beginning… It would be nice if it rotated all colors by 180˚ so that everything isn't orange, though.
- trendbreakr, on 11/23/2008, -0/+1it doesn't cost money...
- postaldave, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1thanks for the that. that is pretty cool.
btw: on a hack it's ctrl,windows key,alt and 8. - strabes, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2It's not free. It's closed source.
- zelxpunkt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't know if I have much use for this, but it's awesome anyway.
- directive0, on 10/12/2007, -2/+2Well clearly SOME people are using macs or this wouldn't have gotten dugg, now would it asshat? LOL!!!
Quicksilver rules, this app is pretty cool, Blacktree rules. - Cwiddy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I don't have my Mac with me at work but this looks interesting, can someone tell me if it meets these requirements for some software I work on/with: viewable in low light conditions(dark with low contrast) and non-interference with night vision goggles?
- nshop2, on 02/23/2009, -0/+0Nice review... I liked it.
Thanks

http://www.moviedl.co.cc - phervers, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Beryl also has a similiar feature, but it only inverse colors, however you can only invert a specific window. Great thing when your eyes are tired and you try to read another digg article :)
- Anrkist, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Well, I'm not really sure a program that turns your desktop into "Night vision" is really going to win any awards for a Mac.
- isosceles, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Finally something that makes Google Personalized... i mean iGoogle pages readable. Am I the only one that finds white backgrounds annoying?
- LaueOfficer, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2RTFA, a guy above you said the same thing as you and then realized his mistake. Shame you aren't that bright.
- SpokeM, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Honestly, what is it good for?
I really don't understand. - isosceles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2@tofuComputer: You're right. They have to get their Windows PC to boot first.
- yardline, on 10/12/2007, -4/+2Anything like this for the PC?
- Murdats, on 10/12/2007, -5/+3whats this dvrdude? telling windows users to switch to use this new app that does the same as an old one linked above.
I would prefer the option to use many different pieces of software, then be part of your club that celebrates when someone brings something to osx that windows could do for ages - shmatt, on 10/12/2007, -3/+1I thought it was a funny comment +
