- theheadguy, on 10/11/2007, -40/+218Someone needs to get a girlfriend. What a waste of time.
- rauz, on 10/11/2007, -23/+88Uh. No.
It's the pic on the digg submission from before that's fake.

Always check your sources! :) - MonkeyFCoconut, on 10/11/2007, -21/+86Agreed! Good work.
- Stachzilla, on 10/11/2007, -8/+54I find it hilarious that everyone is going to such great lengths to prove and disprove this when all we need to do is head to the tech specs for the phone on the site.
http://www.apple.com/iphone/technology/specs.html
Dimensions 4.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches / 115 x 61 x 11.6mm
Unless I'm mistaken, that hasn't changed at all. But I guess the overlaying of pictures works to. Whatever floats your boat. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -7/+46It hasn't gotten any smaller, but Apple is trying to make it look so. The fact is that the iPhone look smaller in the new pick.
Let's face it, the iPhone is a little bit too large. - wafflez, on 10/11/2007, -6/+42The iphone hasn't gotten smaller, you've just gotten bigger. >:3
- jtorkbob, on 10/11/2007, -7/+40I think you mean AMAZING.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -8/+40Bummer. I was hoping it was the smaller size.
- Mystikal, on 10/11/2007, -4/+30Does it REALLY matter?
- iownsomuch, on 10/11/2007, -12/+36@ rauz
Neither of those pics are fake, 1 of them is just zoomed in more, pay attention. Plus go check the Apple site right now, you'll see that it's the same picture as from the digg submission. It definitely looks smaller now that it used to. - TheWorm, on 10/11/2007, -10/+31I liked the shorter wider iPhone more. I always thought that the iPhone was a little too long.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+214.5 x 2.4 x 0.46 inches / 115 x 61 x 11.6mm
http://www.apple.com/iphone/technology/specs.html - rasterbator, on 10/11/2007, -2/+22It's obvious. A midget was holding it the first time so it appeared larger.
- samk, on 10/11/2007, -5/+18No. The digg submission was accurate. Apple just fixed the photo on their site.
- jman2807, on 10/11/2007, -3/+16Congrats rauz for getting the most comments dugg down in one story...
- ChrisSlagle, on 10/11/2007, -5/+18Does it honestly matter? If it got smaller, I'm positive Apple would have announced it.
- xTRUMANx, on 10/11/2007, -4/+17OMG, so it didn't get smaller. I just cancelled my pre-order. I thought they were trying to scam me since I buy products for the best value in $ per square inch. Bigger is always better, especially with electronics.
- finnishgeek, on 10/11/2007, -1/+13Buried as inaccurate. Sherlock never said "Elementary my dear Watson."
- daviddiaz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9who cares which one is right and which one isn't.
The dimensions of the phone are on apple's website. if you need to know so badly, then cut a piece of paper to those specifications.
Geez - zaren, on 10/11/2007, -2/+11Dugg for the Cadbury egg reference
- M3RCINIAN, on 10/11/2007, -3/+11?
Why couldn't the icons have been made smaller too? The conclusion requires a large assumption - that if Apple did decrease the phone size they would not shrink the icons. - rdoger6424, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12Dugg for the lion emoticon >:3
- mikev, on 10/11/2007, -5/+12mirror (for fakez):
http://www.antiquated.co.uk/productimages/101200731218mirror1.jpg - jspegele, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Wouldn't there be a huge uproar if another company was using such a misleading marketing campaign (assuming the iPhone hasn't gotten smaller)? Apple should be forced to say that the image is not to scale and does not represent the true size of the iPhone, for the sake of everyone who is pre-ordering it.
- MOJIRA, on 05/17/2008, -0/+5Doesn't make this false advertising on Apple's part? Or does it only count if they write the wrong numbers in the specs?
- vancanucksfan, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4GET A LIFE
- totorototoro, on 10/11/2007, -1/+5Of course, the iPhone could be twice as big, and some people would still buy it. And it could be half as big, and some people would still avoid it :P
- Frozo, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6So you are all saying the TV Ads on the Apple site are wrong scale too? I just took a snapshot of the ad and low and behold, it is longer once again! I did the same overlay trick the poster did, and it proves that this article is completely bogus. The "new pic" is the incorrectly scaled image, NOT the other one.
FACT! - sw10, on 10/11/2007, -2/+5Wow, according to that scientific study, because the icons are a perfect match after being scaled, the iPhone hasn't been reduced in size ?
That guy deserves an award. - whygohome10, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Listen to us...
When was the last time anyone ever scrutinized every aspect of a future product like we have been and are now.
For two years now we have obsessed over this product
enough already can't we just wait till the damn this is out. we are like cartman waiting for the Wii - sprech, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3iPhone: I just got out of the pool!!!!
- Cimlite, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Why does the Digg icon on that site go to this story when it has nothing to do with it at all?
That's just annoying and wrong. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Rightey ho, good work Watson. Now I do believe it's time for my snuff.
- poedguy, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Probably because people DO know what the iPhone looks like. Why would they hide the look of it to the model then present the look to the world?
- bobbagoose, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2You could tell by looking at it that the image was out of proportion. I'm glad someone took the time to prove it.
- ares623, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2i didn't understand anything he wrote.
besides, isn't it obvious if you resize the images they would be the same size?
i think a better comparison would be to compare the hand sizes. just a thought - Whamola, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3Call me crazy, but it looks like he just merged the two photos, then zoomed and stretched the images until the pretty much matched.
- rauz, on 10/11/2007, -5/+7I can't believe this actually got frontpaged. The author drew the right conclusions but the original story was a fake, so now we have two frontpaged inaccurate storys on the same subject :D
Doesn't matter since I will be dugg down again, just not my day. - inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3That spec sheet says it runs OSX but we know that is also false.
- inactive, on 10/11/2007, -1/+3you can has a cheeseburger!!!
- DivisibleByZero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1They could have made the icons smaller too...
- Burner, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Here's a curve ball. Maybe the original photos were f*cked up?
- Sandrew, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Assuming this "proof" is accurate, it actually shows that the iPhone is indeed smaller than originally suggested by the picture used in the prior advertisement. That is, to match the two pictures, the author squeezed the old picture rather than stretch the new. Of course, my assumption could be off; maybe the proof is inaccurate; maybe s/he should have stretched instead of squeezed. Doing some quick measurements and comparing to the specifications posted on apple's website (4.5 in x 2.4 in), it turns out that the old picture was correctly proportioned and that the new one has been shrunk down.
- microbefox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1It's an illusion like the Big Circle surrounded by small circles and the small circle surrounded by big circles. Funny how it works with the iPhone :)
- Mark_DeRidder, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1So which way is correct?? Did they F it up the first time or the second time? I would think (hope) the NEW image is the accurate one.
- DigiSkin, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2How many people besides myself had to check the spelling of "cadbury egg" due to this post?
I bet there were a few of you... especially since right now.. cadbury has a bug fat red line underneath it as i post ;) - Frozo, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2deleted, sorry
- mattyohe, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No, this would be an fruitless comparison. We know for a fact that the iPhone did not change physical size since first introduced, so since we know that both iphones must be the same size, we can scale those and THEN, only then can we compare hand sizes... But again, we don't know if hulk is holding the iPhone in the recent image, and if a Gnome is holding the other.
- t4ll3y, on 10/11/2007, -4/+5@kuujjuaqguy
I think you just outed yourself. - mattyohe, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2poedguy: Before that first image that we are all comparing it to, no one on the planet other than a couple designers and steve jobs knew what it looked like. Why would they let some hired hand model take a look at it?
