- alwaysmc2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+41Even I think this is neat, and I don't even own a Mac.
- aspec, on 10/12/2007, -9/+34I can't wait to get a chance to brag about how many macbooks I own.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25>iMovie has to convert compressed audio formats in order to put them in the time line.
... so they playback properly every time.
>iMovie will only let you import audio if it is in the iTunes library.
Wrong.
> iMovie will only let you import images if they are in iPhoto.
Not true.
>iMovie makes you wait for the visual effects to render before it will play them.
Wrong again.
>iMovie won't let you cancel those renderings if you decide you don’t want an effect.
Hit the "Delete" key.
>iMovie won't let you add Video to the timeline, only the story board.
Check the Prefs for "Clips go to ..."
>iMovie won't let you just click and drag text around the timeline; it insists on
>mixing it with the video. (This will sometimes merge two clips that have a
>transition connecting them, and then you can’t even edit the transition.)
Hit the "Over Black checkbox.
>iMovie makes you drag effects from the list of effects onto the video clip,
>but makes you click on the video clip and click "apply" for transitions. (or is
>it the other way around?)
Allows you to do either for either.
Have you even USED iMovie? - Lardquake, on 10/12/2007, -2/+24No.
- queraxus, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19Perhaps he meant his 15 inch Macbook ...
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+16Maybe he is an admin at a small company that uses Macbooks?
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+16Unfortunately I can't unplug my Macbook keyboard without using a screwdriver and possibly a hammer :)
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -2/+17I just got switched.
- 1Bit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15What are you talking about? This is completely relevant to Parallels.
That was nothing more than poorly disguised anti-Apple sentiment. - richardshow, on 10/12/2007, -9/+23Whether or not you can move stuff easily from one operating system to the ohter was the first thing I asked about parallels, so this is great - perfect. Why would anyone need a PC anymore?
- paulius, on 10/12/2007, -10/+24"Because I like to stay on the cutting edge of hardware technology"
Apple is a company known to use cutting-edge technology. All of Apple's computers use dual-core processors with the latest components. Mac OS X itself is based on UNIX, which is a super-stable, fast, secure and reliable foundation.
"Because I don't like OS X when compared to Windows."
That's because you're used too much to Windows. Take a deep breath, forget everything that you learned about Windows, and then try using it. You'll quickly discover that OS X is better designed, more efficient to use and very easy to learn. There are many thing in which it is superior.
"Because I don't like hipsters."
What does that have to do with anything Apple? - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12It's just defacto terminology. Nothing we can do about it now. That's how language works.
- robdazomba, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11> Because I don't like hipsters.
I don't get it. Hipsters follow what's popular. Windows is far more popular than OS X. By definition, an anti-hipster is going to prefer Linux or OS X to Windows.
When I think of the hipster computing crowd, I think of spoiled, middle class kids who play games on their Windows boxes. - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12"- one thing to noticed is that osx can't display image thumbnails"
deviateX, it can. It's pretty fast building thumbnails too, even browsing a shared Windows NTFS folder over a network. It doesn't store a file for thumbnails like Windows does (thumbs.db) but it's fast enough at creating them that it really doesn't matter.

Competition is a wonderful thing - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10">iMovie will only let you import audio if it is in the iTunes library.
Wrong.
>>How?
> iMovie will only let you import images if they are in iPhoto.
Not true.
>>How?"
Did you try drag and drop? I don't use iMovie but I was able to add an image by dropping it into one of the clip frames or whatever it is called. There is also info in the help file that describes two ways to import an image. One being drag and drop and the other being the File > Import menu. I just tried the File > Import menu to import a mp3 and it also worked.
So, I think you should probably try the help file before assuming it can't be done. - greenamp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8How long before Apple buys this company?
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10"Because you might be a PC game fan? Or is Parallels improving here too?
3D accelerated DirectX support would be pretty sweet. :-p"
Boot Camp. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9Nerdiest voice ever!
- DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8Just adding to my previous post. You can drag and drop audio files directly into the timeline. Just tried it myself.
- Blizzardman, on 10/12/2007, -5/+11Amazing.
- MOGua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I actually got BSOD from my Boot Camp installation after installing everything. :(
And yes I did install the helper tool in Windows. It didn't work in Parallels either; I can only boot into safe mode.
I tried to remove the helper tool but since it's a MSI, I am unable to uninstall it in safe mode.
Later I found out in boot.ini, Parallels added lines for kernel and hal. I removed those in safemode and everything is back to normal.
Not gonna try it again now, but I will wait for newer versions. - chrisxkelley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I was about to say "man, i love this but I use boot camp already and that's better". Then he mentioned that parallels supports booting from a boot camp partition and i almost creamed myself. This is awesome!!
- zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+6I bought Parallels for Mac when it was in the early betas. It has turned out to be an excellent investment.
Worth noting that many are having issues getting the Boot Camp integration working correctly, for 2 specific reasons (one: there is a bug in the FAT32 handling and two: the parallels HAL seems to kill keyboard input for some) but hey it's beta and once that is working it's going to answer a lot of our biggest wishes. - turbodigg, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10Why in the hell do you have 15 macbooks?
- trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This is the final thing that made me use parallels.. I have a BootCamp installation, although i rarely boot into it, but i would rather have that, than a parallels sole windows installation, because of the full graphic card support. And two installtions isn't an option due to my small macbook harddisk. To me the best part is that i can now boot my BootCamp installation whilst in OS X... But I am sure that the integration between OS X and Windows is a very good step for using this technology in a more daily use..
Here is a screenshot of my website being tested in Internet Explorer, Safari and Firefox at the same time ^^,

Check the Prefs for "Clips go to ..."
>>Okay, I’ll give you that one, but why would they disable it by default?
Because putting them in the clips drawer doesn't make sense - why do you have the panel there in the first place. Obviously some people don't like it that way, and Apple has provided you with a preference... - Morky, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Problem in paradise: booting from your boot camp partion in parallels works, but fracking MS wants me to register my "new PC" due to the hardware configuration change. Therefore I can't use the same XP installation in boot camp and in Parallels due to Microsoft's treating of me, their customer, like a criminal.
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I'm not sure what his voice has to do with mac. Would you be happier if he sounded like a big mean biker or something. (that's kind of how my voice is)
ctrl == apple is simple and seems so obvious, but it makes a big difference. - duke, on 10/12/2007, -13/+18Believe it or not, not all people purchase computers on the basis of what is perceived as "cool".
No, seriously, I mean it, most people just want their Windows apps to run, and don't really care how sexy the box is. They can buy a cheap box at Best Buy or Wal-mart with Windows already loaded, they don't have to pay more and it works . . . just fine. Honestly.
It would indeed be cool to own a new Apple with Windows running in Parallels, but by the time I buy the more costly hardware and all the extra software licenses (including MS Windows, that's free on the cheap box, and Parallels, which I wouldn't otherwise need), it costs twice as much to do the same, boring stuff (i.e., work).
I know it's hard to believe, but that's the way most people think - there's a reason why Apple sells the idea of "Think Different", because their customers actually do think differently about these things than most people. - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5I believe Leopard is going to support more thumbnail types. I am not sure if HTML will be one but I think it is likely.
- bbeahm, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I want this for one program that there is no mac rival for. Adobe Audition. Best audio editor in the world.
Otherwise mac beats windows hands down. - zetsurin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4It's actually very useful. I kept getting CTRL+C and Apple+C mixed up all the time. One tends to develop a habbit. It's a significant addition to me.
- OrangeTide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4That's pretty slick! These guys seem to really be putting a lot of polish on their software.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Well I was talking about somehting more hardcore like say Oblivion which I currently use bootcamp with XP on one of the paritions, It would be so much convienient but since you mentioned fear I take it as a no.
- t3hX, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4But that has to be done every time you swap between BootCamp and Parallels.
- SSCrow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3From what I recall.
Apple+C and Ctrl+C both copy selections.
And for the most part, I recall them both having almost the exact same layout.
A = select All
S = Save
X = Cut
V = Paste
Z = Undo
And for the most part, so on and so forth. - Sandtiger, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm wondering this too considering games are the only reason why I boot into my bootcamp partition anymore.
- lightningrod220, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3It's called muscle memory. After working with one platform, you expect things to act a certain way, and you get frustrated if they don't. Joel on Software has an article about this, I think.
I remember going from my Mac to a PC for a day. Cmd-W not working was driving me up the wall. I had to consciously use Alt-F4 instead. For some illogical reason, it was ticking me off. - GreatDrok, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Exactly. With the ability to work with a Boot Camp install as well as 'Coherence' it is just like the early days of OS X. You now have the choice of running most Windows apps within the OS X environment just like you could with classic apps on a PPC mac. If that isn't good enough, you can just reboot into the full Windows install for those apps that just don't run in 'classic' Windows. Apple really *REALLY* needs to buy Parallels and incorporate this into Leopard. A bit more polish and this would be simply perfect. Of course, I don't expect MS would take this well at all. If it follows the same path as Classic MacOS then after a few years of running OS X with 'classic' Windows people will have migrated all their data and use away from the old Windows apps and can drop Windows entirely.
- skribble, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3did you have a look at:
http://labs.adobe.com/technologies/soundbooth/
not quite the same, but many people feel this does what they want. - trylleklovn, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Dude.. using the keyboard as the primary input controller is not intuitive.. It might be more precise but definetly not intuitive..
Luckily OS X offers plenty of keyboard shortcuts. - flypcide, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Wow, I'm getting dug down for making a valid point!
And you're 100% wrong. I just swapped between my boot camp install and parallels and I did not have to reactivate XP again. - skellener, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Yes, Windows is now truly the new Classic application for the Mac replacing OS 9. Why would you ever buy a plain wrap PC ever again over a Mac?
- nofxjunkee, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Apple/Command key has a freakin' apple on it, so of course people will call it the apple key.
No it's not interchangeable with control, except now on Windows under Parallels it IS, which is why it's a new feature. - zephc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I get "Unable to open disk image Boot Camp!" when i try to have it boot from it - anyone else have luck?
- dtemp, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2The Parallels Team is an amazing group of people. I'm loving coherency. It's good to know that they are trying to push out new features and fixes as fast as possible.
- sidizzle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2He says, "Also my Mac is running the UB of ShapeShifter with the theme “seven” which is why it looks different."
- MOGua, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I had the keyboard problem at the Windows OS selection screen (boot.ini), too.
Just unplug it and plug it in again. After a few seconds, it will work. - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Did you reinstall Parallel tools in Windows?
