- AceTracer, on 10/12/2007, -6/+131This is like saying, "Yes! I have the clap again"
- GarrettC, on 10/12/2007, -10/+59Neither does your double negative.
- hybrid8, on 10/12/2007, -10/+50looks like goatse
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -10/+43Interesting becuase of the Address Book icon in the dock. Looks like iCal and Address Book are combined. However fake becuase that's not a new Finder, and the aqua is a little to dark. Nice try though!
- thejokell, on 10/12/2007, -6/+27Definitely a load of crap. I'd like to see a new finder, but not if it looks like that.
- TimmyGUNZ, on 10/12/2007, -3/+21Fake...
Look at the system information. Notice how Processor, Memory and Startup Disk all line up right-justified, but "Windows" is a character or 2 off. - danwarne, on 10/12/2007, -9/+27That looks soooooo fake. Apple would never do something as cheezy as that 'spyhole' thing in the second screenshot.
- YoGramMamma, on 10/12/2007, -3/+18Ok. maybe im just wanting to play devils advocate... and i do realize its not thaaat hard to fake this type of thing.....but all the reasons people have aid so far that this is fake, seem kinda weak to me.
-Not a new finder? aqua too dark? ugly ical/address book merge? who are you to tell us what apple has planned. they could make it look ***** brown and have thorns coming off every corner if they wanted, and ya know what.. we wouldnt have a clue if it were real or not.. cause WE AIN'T APPLE. It looks like a new finder to me cause it looks.... well... not like the one i'm looking at now. Notice no "home" folder... among other obvious changes.
-"Windows" isnt properly justified? What... yes it is...
-Also, who says they can't make a "virtuedesktops-like" way of switching between screens without affecting the dock. Yes it COULD be a way that a photoshopper made his/her job easier... but it could also be real.
What about things like the spacing between dock icons, this has been mentioned.. I would think... wouldnt MORE space between the icons offer a little validity to the whole thing, when it would be much easier for a photoshopper to just copy an image of his/her dock as it is now and use it versus recreating one? WOuld it not be easily as plausible that they did that do better distinguish between programs for older/impared/new apple people or to allow for some unforseen new graphical detail that we cannot see in the screen shots. Looprumors.com has been saying for months now that the new Leopard features animated dock icons. Wouldn't more space between the dock icons allow room for their alleged animations? ( http://www.looprumors.com/Pages/leopardinfo08302005.html )
Dont be so quick to write things off..... remember... apple could be doing anything... so I don't think its smart to base opinions of validity on the way tiger looks or personal preferences.
I like looking at images like this and hoping/pondering/discussing versus being so quick to point out nitpicky (and sometimes worng) flaws. - Wengero, on 10/12/2007, -5/+16@Pluckie
It's supposed to show that it is running native window applications without emulation. - ThankTheCheese, on 10/12/2007, -1/+12it has to be fake: Internet Explorer is rendering the page properly ;)
- lnxaddct, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Actually under the Apple/Microsoft settlement from the 90's, Apple has full access to all of Microsoft's APIs for 5 years from that date. Obviously hte date has already expired, but it existed during XP's life, and Apple has access to everything that made XP tick. This is entirely possible. The other option is that Apple bought Parallels and integrated it.
- NSResponder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Actually, that hole distortion is one of the standard CoreImage fitlers. I don't believe these screen shots are real, though.
-jcr - heinousjay, on 10/12/2007, -5/+13I agree that it's a fake, but your reasoning seems specious. You've mentioned mainly aesthetic items that only stick out as fakes based on your opinion. The real giveaway (as someone posted below) is the word 'Windows' in the 'About This Mac' box. It's not justified correctly.
- jakenovak, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10Obviously fake. Windows Internet Explorer succeeds the HTML title in IE 7. Oh, not to mention - Win32 fonts are used in the Fake IE mockup "running" on OSX (not in the Apple.com page, but on the "Tools" and "Options" toolbar selections).
- ScottishCaptain, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Note the Parallels/Bootcamp icon in the Tray (by the clock).
There's a good chance that IF it is REAL, then Parallel's has been integrated into the OS like Classic was.
Thus, according to the About box, the system would be running "Windows XP" much like Classic ran OS 9 ontop of Mac OS X, and Parallel's is just bypassing the Windows GUI in favor for integrating the Wintel windows into Aqua.
I seriously doubt that the Virtual Desktops shown is a part of OS X (note the number circled in the tray). Lots of applications can do that sort of funky transitions effect- so it might be a beta of something else. I also doubt that if apple *did* have Virtual Desktops- that the "switcher" would be a simple "1 and 2" that hovers in the center of the screen. They'd have something more snazzy like a mini-screenshot of the entire desktop.
The Parallels might just be a unreleased beta perhaps? Apple was hinting, though, that Parallels would be preferred over Bootcamp... - mrASSMAN, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12Actually, I thought that was what was most convincing.. Apple -would- do a "cheesy" transition like that..
I give this a 5% chance of being real. (maybe the finder looks like ***** just because it's still in beta) - hfiles, on 10/12/2007, -3/+10In response to Iazzareth, we want IE so we can test web pages we design.
- corsairstw, on 10/12/2007, -2/+9Well, remember there were some leaked shots of OS 10.4 Tiger showing off the widgets before it was shown publicly at WWDC...
- billbradford, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Definitely fake - Core Duo systems use DDR2.
My About Box says "1GB DDR2 SDRAM" on this Core Duo iMac. - KCorax, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7It's fake because:
In IE 7 when the window looses focus the search bar retains the grey "Search with MSN" text while in this screenshot its blank.
Also the IE icon shows some transparency on the halo which implies that someone (ms) made it for the mac. But ms has announce that they will discontinue the mac version of the product. - zerplex, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7walk away, you want no part of this
- stuartjmoore, on 10/12/2007, -11/+17goatse.osx
- ozskier, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Wow, even I could do that in photoshop. Totally fake.
- yonis, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6I don't know, guys. This looks real to me. There are too many tiny changes for it to be faked. (For all the people pointing out the stuff in the IE dialog, notice that it's using a Windows scroller and font rendering - obviously the Windows UI put in the Mac interface. They did this with Classic too.)
In the second screenshot, there's a dropdown arrow next to the title of the window.
As some people have noticed, Address Book has merged with iCal.
There's a Google search widget visible through the hole on the second screenshot. Widgets on the desktop (sucks for me, because I'm on the Widgets team at Yahoo!).
There's no reason for the dock and menu bar to move when switching desktops because it's still the same user account.
The current desktop is noted next to the new Boot Camp logo in the menu bar.
There's a new forward slash item in the toolbar of the Finder.
The odd alignment issue of "Windows" could be attributed to bad scaling. It's only one pixel off.
The look of the OS has been steadily moving toward the unified look and brushed metal is on its way out (look at iLife '06 for an example of this).
I'm thoroughly convinced that this is legit. - hman2, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Notice how the said IE7 status bar is wider than the rest of the window? Among several other things, it's all I can do to stop myself from screaming fake!
- Oakes, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9I figured the fact that it's a transition was obvious. What good would a ***** "spyhole" between desktops do?
- Berkana, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Honestly, as much as I'm tempted to declare it a fake, I still remember the time when a photo of the Mac G4 Cube was posted online, and one analyst gave a long list of reasons why it was fake, from photoshop artifacts he thought he saw in the photo, to reasons why Apple would never build such a stupid computer. Then, he lay down his confidence factor: if it turns out to be real, he'd eat his dirty underwear.
Two days later, the Mac G4 cube was released. It turns out that the photo was real, and he just took every excuse to interpret every little thing as evidence of photoshop retouching. And yes, indeed, the G4 cube was a lame computer, though it was nice and silent.
Here's my question: all of you folks declaring that it's fake, how certain are you, and what stakes would you be willing to put on your remark?
With anything such as Apple's new products or services, I would be hesitant to declare fake even the weirdest ideas.
(You know, if some smart bookie started taking bets on Apple speculation, he'd get rich quick, I think.) - streetstealth, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Indeed, the people saying "I could whip this up in Photoshop in 10 minutes" have never tried this before (I... have).
A lot of thought went into this, and it shows, even if the slight typographic inaccuracy does too. - TellarHK, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Curiously enough, I just took a look at the name "Trinity Rubicon" on Google, and it turns out that Trinity and Rubicon were the codenames for the G4 Cube. So whoever this is really knows his or her Apple trivia history.
I'm skeptical about this, but I think I'm leaning toward it being real - with all the UI differences people comment on signs of being in beta. Apple may be planning wholesale (yet minor) changes to the look and feel of Leopard, particularly in relation to running Windows applications at the same time as Mac apps. It took a little while to parse it in my mind, but I think what we're seeing is a native-Cocoa based WINE implementation that's a huge step above Darwine. My guess? Development machine, probably a prototype Powermac replacement or just a tech workbench dev design - Apple internal OS development would not likely be done on something with locked down hardware like production systems are. They'd need a platform for this kind of work that actually can have pieces of hardware swapped out easily. Given the various bits of information we can glean from all this that make it look somewhat legitimate, I'd bet a buck. - The_Decryptor, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5the word Windows also has a different kind of font smoothing applied to it than the rest of the text (everything else is RGB, Windows is Grayscale)
Edit: and the picture of IE is taken from a JPEG screenshot, it has artifacts even though the "screenshot" is PNG - UnnDunn, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Yeah, you're going to have to give us a little more than that.
- shinaku, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4that's totally not a bottom-of-cake cd just put on the screen
- ventro, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Well, just to play devil's advocate, it might been an Apple employee that wanted to create a new blog anonymously to avoid having the leaked shots traced back to him.
You know, so he wasn't fired.
And sued for leaking trade secrets. - daines88, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Apple has said that Boot Camp will be build into Leopard, check the Boot Camp web page.
- colincornaby, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6That's the OS X icon for Windows in the upper right. It has nothing to do with Paralels.
- althe3rduww, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Everything everyone mentioned presuming its fake can also be used to speculate that this is real.
"Screen shot two where the transition occurs ... why has the poster forgotten to begin to warp the Dock while remebring to warp the hard drive icons. Sorry, the dock either goes away or gets warped with the desktop too."
The dock doesn't get warped because it could be the desktop switching, leaving the dock unedited. Furthermore, a note that it is very difficult to fake a transition, yet leaving the transparent dock unedited if this were a Photoshop.
"Both screen shots. The hard drive names. There is no way Steve will allow the word "WINDOWS" in all caps while Macintosh HD remain upper-lower case. For the average user this highlight Windows (regardless of lessened legibility of all caps) while diminishing the importance of the OSX drive. No way that'll happen."
In the Windows OS, Windows is often capitalized due to it's filestructure. This is also a beta and as you mentioned, OS X will probably rename it using lowercase letters.
"Both screen shots. The merged iCal/Address book. The calendar function is a more important daily tool than the address book so if it's merged it'll focus on a calendar-like icon, not a generic tabbed book icon (usability is my job)."
Although the icon is ugly, I believe this too is real. There are many personal calendars in that shape. I find it hard to imagine an icons that would describe both a calendar and address book as one anyway.
"Screen one. If the 1 and 2 indicate user accounts to switch to, then it's another major UI gaff. It would have names there, not just numbers. No way again."
As seen in the warping screenshot with the hole, the 1 and 2 is most likely numbers for each desktop, and not user accounts. User switching uses user names even in Tiger, this owuldn't change for any reason in Leopard.
"Finally ... and in my mind one of the kost convincing points ... Look at the About This Macintosh box. Notice the Windows entry at bottom? It's clearly using a different typeface then the regular entries and the word "Windows" isn't lined up to the right correctly. That part is definitely Photoshop."
I wouldn't say that. If this is a Photoshop, it was made by a very talented person, no doubt. So he would take extra care when insertin text and make sure it is a aligned. Remember, Apple would certainly not release an OS with misaligned text and all, but keep in mind that this isn't released. The developer may have put a space after 'Windows' by accident; especially if it was a recent modification. The best way to make something is to add it first and correct all visual errors and small bugs when polishing and finishing off the project.
The thing that convinces me most that it _is_ a fake, is the lack of screenshots overall. - PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7WE KNOW. YOU ARE NOT THE FIRST PERSON TO POST THIS.
God, the internet is perverted. - macinjosh, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3But if its an unreleased OS it could be running on unreleased hardware...just a thought
- LocalH, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@yottabite:
Since when? I'm not familiar with the XP version of IE7 (which is what the screenshot shows), but in the Vista version, the titlebar is formatted as such:
[TITLE] - Windows Internet Explorer
And looking up screenshots of IE7 on XP show:
[TITLE] - Microsoft Internet Explorer - SockToy, on 10/12/2007, -3/+6Its IE7 beta running on a windows XP SP2 install virtualised in OSX. Look at the about this mac pane.
- yottabite, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4The IE interface you don't is IE7, currently in beta 2. What you are probably surprised with is the "ribbons" - the fancy schmancy good-for-nothing toolbar that is featured in Windows Vista.
- asiafasthosts, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I want to see moooooooore!!!!! :)
- inkhead, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I'm soo tired of everyone saying these screenshots are FAKE. They are 100% real. I know for a fact. PERIOD. I'll put my money where my mouth is. Anyone who thinks there fake can bet me $500 US on the screenshots. I'm 100% sure they are geniune.
So come-on put your money where your mouth is.... PS Last year the same thing happened some supposed leaked screenshots of 10.4 came out and EVERYONE said, and commented out THEY were faked, and went on to tell how the shadows or this and that were off. I bet 3 skeptics $500 each. And Let me just say I used the $1,500 to buy a new powerbook when 10.4 was release to the public.
You'll see in august that these are indeed real screenshots.
Come on, I'll bet anyone, any takers? Post below me or your email and I'll contact you and we'll setup a way to bet on paypal or any way you prefer. - illt, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8Could be a new transition. starts form a pinhole in the center and opens up to the desktop beneath.
- matt0ne, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4they probably won't be considering they're fake
- geekdreams, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Well, if you're to believe the second screenshot, Apple will be implementing a CoreWindows API so Win32 apps will run natively inside Mac OS X. I still think it's fake, BTW, but there are a lot of details that make it seem plausible.
- jakenovak, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4Just to point out a few problems: http://www.jacobnovak.com/Leopard-problems.png
- goheels681, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2@gavintlgold
The icon you're looking for may be the Boot Camp icon in the menubar. - joerod, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4IE for osx??? why would anyone want that?
- edman007, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3apple wouldn't need windows installed at all (they don't need a license), they can implement the API in the kernel like wine, but much much better, in effect if apple does it there would be no corresponding "Windows version" as that version would be something like "Apple Windows API Version 10.5.0", it would not be "Windows XP"
