- inactive, on 11/01/2007, -4/+99i am replying on my 4 hour old macbook.....
nah, just kidding...wanted to make you feel better. - simplenation, on 10/30/2007, -3/+53Oh Christ, you bought your girlfriend a $1500 present
*****. - holleyto, on 10/30/2007, -0/+45i didn't know rumors could "confirm" other rumors.
- sockpuppets, on 10/30/2007, -5/+44Your first girlfriend is going to be completely miserable and dissatisfied.
- jimmiejo, on 10/30/2007, -11/+49Trying my best to hold out for a few more days. Must. Have. Macbook.
- aussieNickuss, on 10/30/2007, -1/+38I reckon it might be right. We ordered 6 MacBooks at work over 3 weeks ago and upon inquiring the supplier why we are still waiting, he said that his deliveries from Apple have run dry which in the past has only meant one thing....a new model is on its way.
- simplenation, on 10/30/2007, -3/+39why the hell would you buy a new Mac when you know Leopard was going out in a matter of days?
- spider418, on 11/01/2007, -3/+36Dude... Dump her! Why would anyone date a girl with an old macbook!?.
- StockOption, on 10/29/2007, -6/+38Oh Christ, I just bought my girlfriend a Macbook not 6 hours ago.
*****. - emirhan, on 10/29/2007, -3/+25hopefully it is a complete redesign, but it is too good to be true.
- brstilson, on 10/29/2007, -7/+29OH NO SO THAT MEANS YOUR MAC WILL EXPLODE WHEN THE NEW ONES COME OUT
- chandler55, on 10/30/2007, -5/+26i hope the canadian price matches the us price
- deadbaby, on 10/29/2007, -2/+20They have medication for that now.
- rexbron, on 10/30/2007, -0/+18Because any mac purchased after Oct 1st is eligible for a free upgrade to Leopard.
- NeoRicen, on 11/01/2007, -2/+19BootCamp means you can play windows games and there ARE games on the Mac where this would help.
- 0xFEEDFACE, on 11/01/2007, -1/+18If they do update the MacBooks, you're covered by the two-week grace period.
- Zenithan, on 10/30/2007, -1/+16Um, X3100 is a chipset. An Intel chipset. With integrated graphics. Intel integrated graphics. Unless it's somehow competing with itself, it's not giving itself a run for its money.
- ferrariman60, on 10/30/2007, -8/+22I hate to sound rude here, but what is there that the new intel integrated graphics can power on a mac that their current graphics can't? It's not like there are any games to play, and it's not like integrated could run them well if there were. What's the advantage? Focus on the real change here: The chipset, not the graphics. GMA 3100 is the integrated video, Santa Rosa is what's interesting here.
- SamKellett, on 10/29/2007, -0/+14Why wouldn't you wait a few days for any upgrade? The X3100, while still a bit rubbish, is significantly better than the current 950.
- Jakerius, on 10/29/2007, -3/+17Looking at the amount of reliable sources this article quotes (none), I think you'll be safe.
- 0xFEEDFACE, on 11/01/2007, -3/+17Three reasons:
Core Animation, Core Image, Core Video
All three of those depend (rather heavily) on the GPU. By ensuring that even their budget laptops ship with competent hardware (and despite the bitching, the GMA 950 is competent -- it can do PS 2.0 in hardware, albeit not as quickly as a GF 8800), Apple can work all sorts of GPU-dependent goodies into their OS. The MacBook was one of the last Macs to offer good hardware support for Core Image. Only the very last runs of iBook were supported by Core Image (most featured the tell-tale ripple-free Dashboard), and even then, they did so with the aid of some AltiVec fallbacks. - robalesi, on 10/30/2007, -0/+13I'm on the phone with apple canceling the macbook that I ordered yesterday. The end of our conversation went like this: "Apple Lady: So thank you again for calling Apple. And of course you can place a new order once the... once you've.... Me: Once the ultra-secret announcement has been made. Apple Lady: ... Yeah."
- Boondoggle, on 10/30/2007, -2/+15Because your laptop comes with stickers and without os 10.
- clyde2801, on 10/30/2007, -0/+12That's what I heard...
- Christbait, on 10/29/2007, -5/+17I can read digg just fine on my PC....
- avatarpalin, on 11/01/2007, -2/+13Cheers to you man... Getting Laaaaaaid..
- TransmitThis, on 10/29/2007, -4/+15I wonder if they will accept cash?
- Helbrecht, on 10/29/2007, -2/+10Isn't it true as well that the macbook is really the only white and plastic product that apple is selling? (except for headphones, accessories, etc.) I wouldn't be surprised if the next design of the macbook will have a similar finish as the new ipod classic.
- simplenation, on 10/29/2007, -1/+8some of us would run Vista in Bootcamp and play games through that. I'm all about better components
- ttamshadbolt, on 10/29/2007, -2/+9Is that you Leo? :P
- ghaerdon, on 10/30/2007, -0/+7Compelling evidence! Best Buy seems to have all the MacBooks backordered! Another good sign.
- toetagger, on 10/29/2007, -1/+8You better get some before she realizes she old tech.
- 0xFEEDFACE, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6You might be waiting a while. Apple does tons of these "hardware" refreshes -- but case designs tend to stick around for a while.
The iBook kept its "rounded white slab" look from 2001 to 2006 (although the case did change slightly during the G3->G4 transition). The MacBook Pro case is quite similar to the Al PowerBook case -- and even that was around for some three years (2003-2006). In fact, these two examples lead me to believe that Apple makes minor changes for chip changes, and complete redesigns every 5 years or so.
The new MacBooks may have some minor visual changes a. la PowerBook->MacBook Pro -- but I'm betting the case design will remain more or less the same until the end of 2008 at the earliest. - rowlodge, on 10/29/2007, -0/+6never buy a mac and you'll never be outdated again. in the meantime wish you had one.
- ROFISH, on 10/30/2007, -0/+6If Apple HAS to use integrated graphics, they might as well use the best integrated graphics chip. :P
- peterinjapan, on 10/29/2007, -1/+7I will buy something SMALLER than the current MacBooks. My MacBook is great, but a "pro" version I'd be all over if they had one. Remember the best Powerbook ever, the 12 inch? Hello, Apple?
- inactive, on 11/01/2007, -6/+12You guys are ***** psyched about onboard graphics? Thats pretty ***** weak.
- simplenation, on 10/29/2007, -1/+7he means the 13" display to have a higher resolution
- EdwardsNH, on 10/31/2007, -0/+5That's still way too much hassle vs just waiting a week.
- Kanidia, on 10/30/2007, -2/+7I hope the Canadian price is less than the US price.
- fkr3, on 10/29/2007, -2/+7That was always part of their arrangement.
- Coolwave, on 10/29/2007, -2/+7I can only wait about another month before I pick up a Macbook, so I sure hope this is true.
Fingers crossed for aluminum and LED backlighting. - benb, on 10/30/2007, -0/+5About time. I was curious as to when they were going to catch up with everyone else. Guess they got tired of holding the MBP as their only notebook with the Santa Rosa chipset. If they had done this months ago I would have taken a serious look at the Macbook when looking for a new notebook.
- hoshizakistar, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4it depends on when parts were bought/made by apple. things like software will be the first things to match the american price because nothing in their production warrants a higher canadian price. but if apple began assembling these macbooks a long while ago, they probably bought parts at different exchange rates than what the exchange is now and their price will take longer to come down in canada.
that's why leopard was sold at the same price in canada and america while all the ipods and other hardware's price stayed higher in the canadian store. - sonnybobiche, on 10/29/2007, -3/+7I would imagine this release wouldn't be the simple processor change that most people assume it is. The optical drive-free macbooks are coming "soon," and there are only two possible dates for release: early November (according to sources), and Macworld in January. It doesn't make sense to change the processor on the macbooks two months before replacing the entire line. They'd get more mileage out of a full revamp (and the associated hype) just before Christmas. We will see the thin, aluminum, no-CD-drive, LED backlight, multitouch touchpad macbooks next tuesday. bet on it.
- inactive, on 10/30/2007, -0/+4Its plastic, something Apple is moving away from.
- theducks, on 10/29/2007, -4/+8And was it a good purchase then?
- orph3us, on 10/29/2007, -2/+6you fail at internetting, next
- Jeezoflip, on 10/29/2007, -0/+4They do know...Thats why they have macbook pros. So people like you who want dedicated graphics will go buy their more expensive item.
