- StormFreak, on 01/15/2008, -35/+1088Oh, and one more thing....there will now be Apple branded Manilla Envelopes to carry your MacBook Air around in for just 89.99 ::wild applause::
- sysoprock, on 01/15/2008, -42/+539Whats in that little satchel?
"Oh thats my Macbook Air"
Nice! Whats in the backpack?
"Oh thats my ethernet adapter, dvd drive, usb hub, and everything else I need for my Macbook Air" - rudy23, on 01/15/2008, -75/+547MacBook Air is 0.16" to 0.76". The thickest part of the MacBook Air is thinner than the thinnest part of the Sony. It fits inside a envelope
- neio, on 01/15/2008, -22/+438Bloody Hell, Intel did a good job with shrinking that CPU.
- Rockmaninoff, on 01/15/2008, -95/+456For $1799?!
You've got to be kidding me. - ieataquacrayons, on 01/15/2008, -28/+327Front page in 10 min...you guys work fast...
- shinythingy, on 01/15/2008, -85/+370Apple have finally made something I'm interested in.
Edit: Now i see the price. I am no longer interested - DagYo, on 01/15/2008, -16/+278just for comparison the sony tz starts at $2100 with a slower processor http://www.sonystyle.com/webapp/wcs/stores/servlet ...
- inactive, on 01/15/2008, -14/+217This is great news, but leave it to Steve Jobs to literally put it into an envelope. What a showman.
- Spuy767, on 01/15/2008, -30/+211Let's see, Sony's Least Expensive Micro has a 1.06 Ghz Processor, an 11.1" screen, and costs 2100$. So, I'm pretty sure that makes your comment mildly retarded.
- pintomp3, on 01/15/2008, -12/+191ultra portables have always carried a premium price tag.
- theillest1, on 01/15/2008, -26/+201I can hear thousands of people having multiple macgasms at this very moment.
- tieu, on 01/15/2008, -28/+181there is an 80GB HDD standard or a 64GB SSD that is optional
- eV64, on 01/15/2008, -70/+219Finally! a great thin laptop without all the unnecessary crap like an optical drive
- jimmypoops, on 01/15/2008, -9/+135I'm imagining the new ad:
"Hi, I'm PC - wheres Mac gone?"
*muffled noises from envelope* - FLAESHAL, on 01/15/2008, -33/+148asus eeepc
- 1spinnaker, on 01/15/2008, -36/+128it's going to be expensive
- Barbarino, on 01/15/2008, -17/+107If they drop the price down 200 bucks in a month, everyone who buys one now can just STFU right now! We don't need a repeat of the iphone cry baby crowd..
- Hobbes24, on 01/15/2008, -0/+86fits inside a envelope huh? that'l come in handy when you're mailing it in to have them replace the battery...
- wrenchone, on 01/15/2008, -4/+89That 64GB SSD option will run you $1,000.
- techlinks, on 01/15/2008, -14/+99http://www.macrumorslive.com/
Best Live coverage. - CraigJ, on 01/15/2008, -13/+97no offense, just so cheesy I thought I was gonna puke.
- csw3190, on 01/15/2008, -20/+103No optical drive, but a Superdrive accessory is available for $99. Also, software comes with the MacBook Air that allows you to "borrow" a Mac or PCs optical drive.
- dshPls, on 01/15/2008, -32/+109*Macs have always carried a premium price tag.
- Breepee, on 01/15/2008, -2/+76New, the Mac the Knife, it's so thin it'll slice bread!
- thecompkid, on 01/15/2008, -90/+158Yeah, for $1800, i'm extremely underwhelmed.
- BlackholeStorm, on 01/15/2008, -15/+80WTF?! There's no ethernet port!
- zeejay, on 01/15/2008, -19/+84Um, have you looked that the price of the Sony TZ series? It's a lot bulkier and has a much slower CPU, and it's over $3,000. This one's not for you, obviously, but for those in this market, it's a freaking bargain.
- techweenie1, on 01/15/2008, -11/+76yeah for that kind of cash I'll get a MacBook Pro...I really am never in a situation where I need a laptop that small. Actually, is there anyone here who would need something that small over the MacBook or MacBook Pro, just curious
- digggggggggg, on 01/15/2008, -10/+74Dude just check out Sony's TZ series with the Core 2 duo. They're comparable in features and size, but note their price: $2199.
Like pintomp said, ultraportables have always cost more money. - naio, on 01/15/2008, -10/+73Have you ever considered committing suicide?
- vexious, on 01/15/2008, -2/+61No ethernet sucks for being in college, a lot of places on my campus do not have wireless such as big buildings or labs. Including the dorms... Also with only 1 USB, a usb splitter should have been included..
- alecks, on 01/15/2008, -1/+58(Note to self: Save quote for reference in 2 to 60 years )
- podgey22, on 01/15/2008, -6/+60I believe the standard magnetic HD is the same toshiba they ship in the iPods... Therefore it's going to be SLOW AS HELL (4200 RPM).
So the options are "fast and ultra-expensive" or "slow and mega-expensive"... Great. The EEEPC looks a better deal for a little UMPC =) - manellis, on 01/15/2008, -17/+65$1800 stock
- MacEnvy, on 01/15/2008, -10/+55He said he wanted to leave out the optical drive, not leave out a usable LCD screen size.
- brjndr, on 01/15/2008, -5/+48It's $3100 is you want the SSD.
- gstep, on 01/15/2008, -2/+43I think you mean the iFolder.
- benanzo, on 01/15/2008, -27/+68"ultra portables have always carried a premium price tag."
A true ultra-portable is the EeePC -- $499 for 8GB SSD -- Apple waayyy over did it. Should have kept it simple, affordable. - cwcheang, on 01/15/2008, -19/+591 USB port. 1.8 inch Parallel ATA 4200rpm drive.(even if it's user replaceble I dont think i can find one easily) No penryn. No optical drive. No ethernet. $19 option for the Apple Remote for an already expensive notebook + $20 iPod Touch update. How much greedier can you get Apple?
And there he was talking about NO compromise. Ugh. Give me a real 13.3 inch pro notebook. or update the ancient macbook pro. - inactive, on 01/15/2008, -3/+43This is Digg and we don't do that here.
- HappyScrappy, on 01/15/2008, -1/+39How do you like the $3K price?
- iDemonix, on 01/15/2008, -11/+49Overpriced, limited inputs, no optical drive. What a disappointment.
- gixxer07, on 01/15/2008, -5/+43And people will actually buy it !!!!
- RooDoG, on 01/15/2008, -7/+44They will also come in assorted colors for easy filing of multiple MacBook Air's, product(red)!
- Microdot, on 01/15/2008, -13/+49how in the world can you compare a machine that will EASILY run just about every operating system known to man, at a decent speed, with a GOOD screen (not super tiny with low resolution) and backlighting... a lit keyboard... 802.11n wireless.. etc... with an eeepc? they arent even in the same ballpark. they cater to two completely different groups. while i love the eee, a mba it is not.
- akkibaba, on 01/15/2008, -3/+39Why is extreme thinness a feature? I applaud the sweet engineering, no question. But why would people pay a massive premium for thinness that makes you lose the optical drive?
- sleepwalkers, on 01/15/2008, -8/+44And it's specs don't even come close to comparing to the MBA (...wow, strange acronym). Don't bother comparing the Eee to it.
- Urkel, on 01/15/2008, -3/+39As impressive as this thing is (and boy george is it impressive), lets be honest and admit that "it fits in an envelope" is NOT a feature anyone is looking for.
- TheNik, on 01/15/2008, -21/+55$1799? That's a little steep...
