- dmoney06, on 10/12/2007, -8/+100As much as I love the iPod, why would you ever buy these.
- shiftt, on 10/12/2007, -4/+44Most people don't know that Apple will ship you replacement headphones free of charge if yours ever break down (within your 1 year warranty)
- atdigg, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34I think it's better deal to buy a new Shuffle that come with those earphones.
- jguy584, on 10/12/2007, -11/+44@tidu
Those crappy $9 Sony headphones are ten times the quality of the standard apple ones - tidu, on 10/12/2007, -20/+50The only reason people buy these are for the style. You don't look cool with crappy Sony headphones, but when you have the white wire and earbuds... people know you're listening to an iPod.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -11/+39I specifically don't wear the iPod buds because 1) I don't want to be mugged, and 2) they make my ears bleed, I can only wear in ear buds which I have an expensive pair of sonys for (which I'll have to find alternatives to when they're old as I don't give Sony my money anymore)
- subhuman, on 10/12/2007, -2/+29I seriously hope that is sarcasm. Ipod stock headphones are a joke. Creative, Sony and Cowon are the only companies (in my experience) that actually ship phones that arent crappy. I still change them however.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -6/+28if you sell the shuffle for 50 you've made EXACTLY $0 dollars!!!!! What a great system!!!
- LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -2/+23And for $29? I can get a good set of Sony Fontopia MDR-EX51LPs for $8 less than that price from amazon (http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-EX51LP-Fontopia-Headphones-Silver/dp/B000095SB6 ) and ya know what? They sound great. Why would you buy these cheap-sounding headphones for that much when there is much better to be had?

"I'm carrying an ipod, and I won't hear you creeping up behind me" - AssProphet, on 10/12/2007, -7/+23informative comparisons > unqualified claims
- ubermorph, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I can't believe people would actually buy these.

Sorry about your wallet ;) - sithmat, on 10/12/2007, -1/+15I recommend Sennheiser PX 100 headphones for anyone looking for QUALITY replacements for their default iPod earbuds. The price is a bit steep ($79 CDN), but the bass is fantastic and they cancel noise nicely.
And for any aesthetic nuts, they come in white (cable and headphones) too. - firefox15, on 10/12/2007, -5/+18I can buy ones at Radio Shack that are twice as good and half the price of the stock iPod ones.
- nreynolds, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11and what if our kids have a fear of squids?
- kyeetza, on 10/12/2007, -6/+15How can all of you know the quality of these earbuds when they were released only 4 days ago (Sept 12)? Nobody here can make an objective judgment on the earbuds if they don't own a pair, you're all complaining about the previous generation of earbuds, not the one in TFA.
- Knives, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12You can buy earbuds/headphones that match the iPod for less, and they don't suck
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -1/+10@sithmat:
I second that. I've heard many great things about the PMX 100s, but your price is waaay off. $79 CND is about $70 USD. You can get them new for $35 USD on Amazon. - cvecve, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9You can get Sony Fontopia headphones in white too.
- lorensingley, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8OR you will finally find out that your entire mp3 music collection ACTUALLY sounds like *****.
- alf86, on 10/12/2007, -0/+7My iRiver shipped with Sennheiser ear buds. They are superior to any Sony buds I've ever owned.
- dgath, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8"atdigg, you're probably right. Buy a shuffle for $79 or whatever they cost, pocket the earbuds, then sell the leftover shuffle for $50 or so."
Congrats, you just paid $29 for the buds. - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+10I got these with my new iPod nano and they're really good - a much more comfortable fit and they *seem* to sound better. People should certainly try them although $29 does seem like a lot.
- ersnyder, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5This isn't the first time you can buy ear buds in store. They just haven't sold them in the store in about 6 months.
- goat77, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5$30!? Those earbuds are some of the worst I've ever used! I recommend the phillips "surround sound" headphones for more than $10 cheaper. And yes, they come in white: http://www.amazon.com/Philips-HE592-Surround-Sound-Buds/dp/B0001OY2W2
- tacojohn, on 10/12/2007, -2/+7I just picked up these headphones from the Apple store today- I liked the sound quality of the last iPod ear buds (I've had some sony's and other brands- they fall out of my ears and don't have good bass response- always clipping).
I fired up 50 Cent for a bass test- they sound great and they fit A LOT better- the old ones hurt my ears a little bit over time- but these things fit like a glove and are snug.
Hurray Apple!
ps- I thought about the shuffle thing that was mentioned above on the way out of the store- I plan to buy one in october- DUH! I should have waited because they come with it. Stupid me. - maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6how is middle school?
- zweben, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8Pretty much all earbuds suck by design. If you want good small headphones around $30, take a serious look at Sennheiser PMX 100's.
They're tiny behind the neck headphones and they beat out every earbud in the world by far.
http://www.headphone.com/products/headphones/all-headphones/sennheiser-pmx-100.php - mnrosebud, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Some apple users have heard of Linux and kernel, yet they still like their Apple computers. I have bought $50 Sony earbuds that were recommended to me by assorted "computer literate" people and people who "appreciate" music. They may have better sound quality but only if you sat very still. If you moved so much as a hair they fell out. And the iPod buds now have been remodeled, not just reshaped for the hell of it. They come for free with your iPod, they are replaced for free no matter why they need replacing. Someone borrowed my iPod and crushed the buds in a fricken car door and they still replaced them without a problem. And who the hell ships sound cancellation earphones with the original product anyways, or sell them for $29?
- masterkenobi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4I actually opted for the Shure noise cancelling headphones, since I'm on the subway a lot and the train noises interfere with my music listening (and it's probably bad for my ears if I blasted the volume with the standard Apple earbuds).
But I can safely say, that I spent more money on Ipod accessories than the Ipod itself! - jm1234567890, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7These are one of the few accessories compatible with all iPods
- dizzledaking, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Let me third the Sennheiser PX 100 comment. I've got a pair (72$ CAD) and they are f'ing fantastic. Good bass, nice accurate sound, and just sound great! Most I've spent on headphones, but they're worth every penny.
Minor issue: they're open headphones (which typically reproduce sound more accurately), but this means they actually let MORE sound in. The PX150 and PX200 DO cancel sound out, but sound decidedly worse. - cvecve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"Recommend any earbuds that do good base anyone?"
All your base are belong to Ultimate Ears. - BrickSprickly, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Thank you. I actually saw them at the Apple store like a month or so ago. The original ones, I mean.
- appleswitch, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4"Check the reviews. He doesn't lie."
Don't be such a hypocrite, the Apple buds are reviewed much higher than the sony buds and look alot better. I'm not planing on buying apple buds but your logic Is hurting your point. - AngryBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Would you call someone that drives a BMW illiterate of automobiles? Would you call them idiots that have never heard of Toyota or a combustion engine?
People buy Apple products because they like them. It doesn't matter who does this or that better. I'm sorry to hear that you can't afford Apple's prices, but that's no excuse to insult everyone else that does. - billymachine, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"kind of superb"? Hehe, funny wording there.
Anyway, these are NOWHERE near 30-dollar quality. Only a sap would pay that. I buy Sennheiser, personally. - LycoLoco, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3AssProphet:
http://www.amazon.com/Sony-MDR-EX51LP-Fontopia-Headphones-Silver/dp/B000095SB6
I know that I've posted this link a lot in this thread, but to answer your question, these have great bass, and you'll hear a lot of things in your music that you previously didn't. They were definitely worth the $30 I paid for them. Honestly, I miss the bass that these had when I moved up to the Shure E3s. - ShrimpCrackers, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I remember what someone said, that maybe 95% of iPod owners don't care about sound quality or have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to it, and this entire digg thread is proof positive!
Other than what Ubermorph has written, most of what you guys have wrote is a laughing stock of crap earphones (especially the fellow that recommended the horrible Phillips). The guy who recommended the Bose surely doesn't realize that people at HeadFi and other professional audio forums refer to Bose as "Buy Other Sound Equipment". Sure they're even better than what Apple provides but whats a D- versus an F?
For cheap earphones get Etymotic ER6i's, I got mine for $49 but you must have a headphone amp, same goes for the Shure E3c's (I think the E2c's are a joke). I would highly highly highly recommend at least a reputable Chumoy headphone amp to soften it a bit. These are the absolute minimum.
For headphones just get a pair of Grado SR-80's or Grado SR-60's, you can buy them online for far cheaper. For $80 you can have a pair of headphones that sound almost as good as any $300+ pair. Again, also recommended with at least a reputable Chumoy headphone amp maker. - gmillerd, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Agreed, these read 'take my ipod' like nothing else.
- cphuntington97, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I recommend AKG K701 as an inexpensive alternative:
http://www.amazon.com/Akg-K701-Studio/dp/B000F7T4BE - sdubois92, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2these are good for those times when you just dont want to lug around good headphones. They work fine, they sound good, but if your looking for a good bass sound they suck.
- NOFXY, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Same here, i've never really liked earbuds but the ones that come with the iPod seem to fit really comfortably in my ear and dont fall out no matter what im doing. The quality isn't the greatest but it also isn't bad. I've tried the earbuds that come with the Creative Zen Micro, and while they are good quality, they're just too bulky and dont fit comfortably so i stick with the ones that came with the iPod.
- maiku00, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2ipod buds sound fine if you use your fingers to hold them shoved into your ears. but thats kind of a problem.
- AssProphet, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Recommend any earbuds that do good base anyone?
- sdquirk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I could buy these to use with a M$ Zune, and then it will be just a like an iPod! I actually like them as far as ear buds go, but I use other, larger, non-buds if I want great sound quality.
- nmaster64, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Everyone says they wouldn't buy these, although they are quality headphones.
Does anyone have links to cheaper headphones of equal or better quality, preferably that won't break/die easy? - yk890, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Are these the headphones apple will ship if you claim the free earbud replacement from their site?
- AngryBoy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2See what abusing the free replacements have wrought?
