- kittenman, on 08/01/2008, -2/+67i bet AT&T's gonna cry like a pussy to ask Steve jobs to unlist the app.
- tmike7223, on 08/01/2008, -1/+47Yay for iPhone tether!
Boo for extra AT&T charges! - Lijiman, on 08/01/2008, -1/+46Good, now I don't have to Jailbreak my iPhone 3G just for tethering!!
- dizzy113, on 08/01/2008, -3/+38Wow, thought I missed this one! I think Apple just gave at&t the finger...thanks Apple :)
- Guitar7272, on 08/01/2008, -1/+24If you're going to call people dumb, you should at least spell American right, you ***** idiot. Completely uncalled for.
- runeasgar, on 08/01/2008, -1/+24It's not Mac only -- it's a SOCKS5 proxy.
The app only includes instructions for Mac, but it works just as well for a PC. Assuming you know how to set up a SOCKS5 proxy, obviously. - runeasgar, on 08/01/2008, -2/+23I will wait until official comment from AT&T or Apple before using this extensively, but I tested it and it worked great.
- insanemike, on 08/01/2008, -2/+21I shelled up the $10 for this. Verdict: awesome.
- superkendall, on 08/01/2008, -1/+19Because if you read the App Store terms - that app is not against them.
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -2/+18It's not a limitation of the OS..... it's a limitation that AT&T put on Apple's contract.
- Relaxin22, on 08/01/2008, -3/+18Careful! Just because the App is out there doesn't mean AT&T won't screw you over for violating the Terms of Use contract. The contract specifically prohibits using the iPhone as a way to access 3G from your laptop. I wouldn't doubt AT&T can tell you are doing this and make you pay HIGH costs for it. As counter intuitive as it may sound, you can overuse your "unlimited" plan if you try and use the iPhone's connection on your laptop. Obviously AT&T doesn't want this, how else will they sell those network cards and their high-priced data plans.
- MattElmore, on 08/01/2008, -6/+19Works like a champ.
How did this make it onto the app store?? - fowleryo, on 08/01/2008, -1/+14your comment is a year too late.
- nigel40, on 08/02/2008, -0/+12It's been taken down. Too good to last. AT&T: You have once again earned my hatred. What's great is this: When Apple's contract runs out with AT&T, I will leave them so friggin' fast.
- FTLJohnson, on 08/01/2008, -4/+16what the f...? Was that really called for?
- braineater2448, on 08/01/2008, -0/+12It was available last night, then taken down quickly. This is the 2nd time is has appeared on the App Store. Did Apple make the mistake of approving it twice? Unlikely.
- inactive, on 08/01/2008, -2/+13Who cares?... I'd spend $20 for the feature.
- superkendall, on 08/01/2008, -1/+12How can AT&T tell though? They have no way of knowing. All traffic looks like it's coming from the phone.
- inactive, on 08/02/2008, -1/+11Dumb *****, not all Americans are stupid. Maybe you should get off of your ass and see the world before you make uneducated assumptions.
- kelly, on 08/01/2008, -0/+9Already done
- pensel, on 08/02/2008, -0/+9They were the ones to allow Apple full control of their software distribution.
At the very least, if there is a scuffle, it'll force them to reveal that it's actually an xGB limit and not unlimited and that will look awful to Apple marketing, who will fight to change that. That notion of [limited] unlimited data, even if completely impossible to use in the higher end of average use in a month, is important to Apple's intentions.
Forget the ***** "Jesus-phone" device itself, its design and hype. THIS is how Apple is able to be a consumer's savior. - Ignignokt01, on 08/01/2008, -1/+9thats not a high price considering the uses of this.
- mentor972, on 08/01/2008, -1/+9This is a real link dummy.
- damnyooneek, on 08/01/2008, -2/+9there's no way they can find out unless you abuse it
- Galaxylander, on 08/01/2008, -2/+9Lets see, almost every phone I've ever used can't so copy & paste, almost EVERY ***** PHONE PLAN IS THAT EXPENSIVE, the lack of tethering is AT&T's fault, not Apple's, the video recording and MMS are a downside, but why do you have to pick at like the 3 bad things about the ***** phone rather then look at what's good about it?
- monzsca, on 08/01/2008, -2/+9All this is is running a socks proxy, connecting via wifi from the laptop to the phone. You can do this for free if you jailbreak the phone. And since it's a proxy, only applications that support socks proxy will work, but does work well for web browsing. Using this method, I've seen 2mbps on 3g. Eats your battery very quickly though. It's cumbersom because you have to change settings each time you want to use it.

- zholmquist, on 03/04/2009, -1/+7Just did a SpeedTest using NetShare -> http://www.speedtest.net/result/303754252.png
@martinherrera I'll use it because now I can hit Flash sites, and download files easily. - joel8x, on 08/02/2008, -0/+6That is because everything said in Boston has a racial slur hidden somewhere ;p

Have fun - purelithium, on 08/02/2008, -0/+5Tethering is allowed in our plans. (6gb plan)
I've tethered the iPhone using a similar method by jailbreaking and installing a proxy server. Worked perfectly for Firefox. This app is just a GUI for the Cydia/Terminal method I used. - tenspeedogbb, on 08/01/2008, -3/+8Why would you try to play WoW on 3G or EDGE?
- funnyboy88, on 08/02/2008, -0/+5down again! *****!
- beggersfunk, on 08/02/2008, -0/+5I just read the review from TUAW. And i bought it real quickly after that before Apple pull it off again from the app store. Haven't try it yet but with the positive review it should work fine. Truly the iPhone plan is worth it for me now.
- SPECOPS, on 08/02/2008, -0/+5Why? It's an "Official" App Store App - no word on having to ask or tell ATT anything. If it comes down to it, I bet folks would win in a suit due to the fact its there and offered as something you have to pay for. Maybe ATT wants to "feel the waters" with it. The iPhone data plan is soft-limited to 5gigs a month anyway, and you get 3 warnings before they cut you off.
- Diganta, on 08/02/2008, -0/+4Just got it. Thanks for the posting.
- TheGeekNextDoor, on 08/02/2008, -1/+5Bought it! Tested on my 2G phone (3G on order from AT&T), and got 200 kbps down and about 50-60 kbps up. There is an app on the Mac to route all of your traffic via socks proxy. I just need it for the occasional use of the computer. I don't want to live tethered, and I don't want to pay an extra $15 to $40 a month for the privilege of being able to use my data connection how I see fit. The speed alone is an inhibitor to excessive use... yes let me torrent the latest movie at 3G speeds /sarcasm.
- nightofgrim, on 08/01/2008, -6/+10but you have to pay up $10
- nigel40, on 08/02/2008, -2/+6It's been taken down. Too good to last. AT&T: You have once again earned my hatred.
- 37prime, on 08/01/2008, -2/+6The developer is getting a lot of sales.
PROFITS! - inactive, on 08/02/2008, -0/+4You don't need to change your settings every time you use if if (assuming you're on a Mac) you just save your iphone tether settings as a new "Location" profile in System Preferences -> Network. Just switch the profile whenever you want to tether.
- straylightrise, on 08/02/2008, -1/+4i used to tether with my Blackjack - just don't be an idiot and go over 5 gigs - so no bittorrent or anything big and ur fine.
- pensel, on 08/02/2008, -0/+310 dollars is worth it for the feature and to push it up the bestsellers list. It should be visible on anyone's first glance at their new phone's App Store and at the same time make people question why it isn't already done over the iPod cable.
- DigDugDigger, on 08/02/2008, -0/+3Other than bandwidth usage, is there any way for AT&T to detect tethering with this app?
