- Hodor, on 05/04/2009, -5/+169that's iNormous.
- liquisoft, on 05/04/2009, -2/+106This is so weird for me.
I remember when I was younger, my aunt had this huge PC that was top of the line for the time, and she used it to run Myst (among other things). I went and visited and spent almost my entire time there playing Myst (full-screen, mind you).
Now the same thing basically fits on a tiny machine I carry in my pocket. So, so weird. - wautrey, on 05/04/2009, -1/+83Talk about jaded gamers. That ***** was BEAUTIFUL back during it's 1993 release.
- formfactor, on 05/04/2009, -3/+81Oh c'mon you guys, these types of games are PERFECT for iPhone.
But I want PHANTASMAGORIA. Remember that 6CD monster?
If you don't heres the wiki: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Phantasmagoria_(compu ... - Moodge, on 05/04/2009, -5/+83Sweet! Now I can be bored/confused on the go!
- wjlaw100, on 05/04/2009, -0/+59Better Yet for the iPod.... Zork?
>Open the door.
I can't do that.
>Open the blue door.
I can't do that.
>open the God-damn door!
f*ck off. - anexanhume, on 05/04/2009, -0/+53I personally don't like to put a size limit on Jesus.
- Wreckage, on 05/04/2009, -3/+47iMyst it.
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -6/+46I give him 640K. That ought to be enough for anyone.
- bitweever, on 05/04/2009, -0/+377th Guest anyone?
- Jones82, on 05/04/2009, -3/+40iSee what you did there
- johnhummel, on 05/04/2009, -0/+36My daughter hasn't, and she's 10. If she was going to play it, I'll probably pull out the CD from my archives - but there are some that haven't.
I know it's easy to knock on Myst, but when it came out, I loved it. No hint guide, just looking, writing, looking through those books, putting together the pieces when I found the planetarium....
I actually feel like playing it again to see if I can be disciplined enough to not look up any FAQs and solve the puzzles after all these years. - spepin, on 05/04/2009, -2/+31Myst? 1993, is that you?
- Mawds, on 05/04/2009, -3/+32Riven > Myst
- Velvolver, on 05/04/2009, -0/+25" I was able to beat the game with no cheats in about 15 hours."
And then I banged my super model wife while curing cancer. - datdamonfoo, on 05/04/2009, -12/+37Why is this news? Myst has been available for Windows Mobile for years and is only 26 MB.
http://www.midlet-review.com/index?content=review& ... - XxtraLarGe, on 05/04/2009, -1/+23I remember when Myst first came out. One interesting thing about Myst was that it was Mac only at a time when Mac gaming was really on the ropes, then came out for the PC much later. It pretty much made CD-ROM drives a must-have for computers. It seems odd that they couldn't reduce it by a huge amount with better compression available for both audio & video these days.
- xiphrex, on 05/04/2009, -2/+21Yeah buy this game then spend 20 minutes thinking what the ***** is going on and what do all these switches everywhere mean, then never touch it again.
Sounds about right for 6 dollars. - Balanced, on 05/04/2009, -0/+17I think RedZeppelin was trying to make a joke about how the iPhone has no media card slots.
- aywwts4, on 05/04/2009, -0/+16There is a whole generation who will have missed it. This game came out in 93, and it was quite challenging when I was a first grader, so I doubt there were many >5 year olds playing it. So anyone younger than about 20 probably completely missed the phenomenon.
- peterjmag, on 05/04/2009, -5/+21"High quality images (better than original Myst)"
That seems like a rather dubious claim, especially on a QVGA screen. The original had to size up to 1024x768 (or higher), not just 320x480. - Buckwyld, on 05/04/2009, -15/+31Haven't we all played this already.
- SpeedSteamBoat, on 05/04/2009, -1/+17Perhaps, but you're forgetting this device doesn't serve primarily as a gaming device. It's a phone. THAT certainly didn't happen 8 years ago.
- stuffradio, on 05/04/2009, -1/+1710 hours later... "dude im downloading this right now!"

- MrSketch, on 05/04/2009, -1/+17Wow, you're giving it more credit than I was. I thought they were only 640x480 images, and to scale to a 320x480 screen would be at best 426x320 images which are 44% of the original size or a ~300MB total (if all were images, but there are a few small videos). From a 1024x768 image they would be 17% of the original size for ~120MB (again, if all were images).
Were the original Myst images compressed at all or were they raw bitmaps? If they weren't compressed, we could convert them to PNGs and save even more space.
Bottom line is I think they could do better than a 700MB download. Sounds like they just took the original iso and just ported the engine. - BlueCadenza, on 05/04/2009, -5/+20Because anything Apple does, regardless of whether its already been done, is considered newsworthy and ground-breaking.
At least the Windows Mobile edition was actually worked on to keep the size down instead of what seems like a lazy port straight from the original program CD. Its even higher resolution than the iPhone version with 640 x 480 resolution support. That's the first thing that came to mind when I saw that the program is 700mb big. That's a disaster. - inactive, on 05/04/2009, -0/+15Well honestly, Myst is pretty much 100000000000 pictures with some video and sound thrown in.
- n4tune8, on 05/04/2009, -0/+15You know what I want? Diablo, the original, on iPhone. That would be newsworthy!!!
- Syric, on 05/05/2009, -0/+15That's like three puns in one. I'm impressed.
- SpinningHead, on 05/04/2009, -0/+14Then came the high tech revolution known as Oregon Trail.
- Harbinger1080, on 05/04/2009, -0/+14and 11th Hour... love this kind of game.
and, slightly different... Kings Quest. LOVED that stuff. I think 6 came with our 'multimedia' computer, and it was amazing. - directedition, on 05/04/2009, -1/+15ice ice baby
- pradaaddict, on 05/04/2009, -1/+15That's a really hefty game for an iPhone, I'm shocked they couldn't find a way to compress the game. I may buy it just to check it out, and for the Nostalgia points
- peterjmag, on 05/04/2009, -0/+14I wonder if Myst nerds watch Myst porn.
Head for the wooden hut. Go round to the right hand side and find the tall tree. Go back into the hut. Note the furnace, pressure gauge, and the stripper. Turn round and open the safe using the Key. Turn the valve inside the safe to get the stripper's top off. - smedrick, on 05/04/2009, -0/+13That game rocked.
- LucasHenderson, on 05/04/2009, -2/+14Come out with Exile and Riven, and I'll buy an iPhone just for this.
- Howitzer86, on 05/04/2009, -0/+12Maybe they mean it has 16 million colors instead of 256
- Misterberu, on 05/04/2009, -6/+18God, I know, right? I mean... jesus... that game sucked so hard. I remember staring at the shiny lights on my computer screen for so long... but... DAMN IT... they just didn't mean anything! Stupid confusing, brain hurting puzzle games... I'm gonna go play some Fifa 09 after I delete my System32 folder to free up some space. Take that you nerd game loving stupid computer nerds!
/s - frepnog, on 05/04/2009, -2/+13"Right Click, properties, run in compatibility mode for Win 95."
yeah, because that ALWAYS works.
lol. - freakFlag, on 05/04/2009, -3/+13I thought the game was very well made and I was able to beat the game with no cheats in about 15 hours. It was an honor to play and the storyline was amazing. There are novels before and after this game. For those who have reached the end, read the Myst novels to discover how and why D'Ni is destroyed. Again, its a great series and the game fit right in.
- tomhancocks, on 05/04/2009, -0/+10FTA: High quality images (better than original Myst)
- additivefree, on 05/05/2009, -1/+11iGiggled
- inactive, on 05/04/2009, -1/+11Someone should tell them the iPhone has a 3D rendering engine. No need for all those pre-rendered still-frames. At the least, inform them of JPEG and H264.
- AdamaObama, on 05/04/2009, -3/+13Now Myst nerds are going to have to start clearing the porn off their iPhones/iPod Touch's.
- Charlie1er, on 05/04/2009, -2/+11What's the next step?
Install Little big planet, blu-ray edition, only 16GB, for 8.99$.
Hey, it takes like 100000000000 pictures 320/280 to make 700MB, or like 6 hours of movie. Couldn't they compress the textures a bit? - RedZeppelin, on 05/04/2009, -8/+17700MB? That's no big deal. After all, SD cards are so cheap nowadays.
What? - omgwtflawl, on 05/04/2009, -0/+9...You didn't bring the page...?
- FredFredrickson, on 05/04/2009, -0/+8It's also on Nintendo DS.
- kaliena, on 05/04/2009, -0/+8You know if you really want to play this on your PC you can play RealMyst for free through gametap, and you get better graphics, the ability to move around the whole island as if walking instead of click through navigation, day/night effects, better water, etc. http://www.gametap.com/video-games/realMYST-200010 ...
