- Clodagh, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Actually I'm not too fond of rain, cool idea for an app though. If you actually took the time to read what Cookbook was about, you'd see there's more to it than you said. One, it's for organising meal days in advance with its built-in schedular. It can be controlled using your apple remote too, if you don't want to muck up your lappie. It's most useful aspect though, is the fact that it would be tied in with Amazon, so you could look up that meal you had in that restaurant a week ago, push a button, and your credit card will be automatically billed, and the ingredients would arrive at your door a couple of days later. The instructions on how to make it will be provided , so know you're a world class chef too. That's why it's cool. Besides geeks eat too don't they?
- Ireland, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12Blossom is too niche to win this type of contest. What should win is an app that more people would use, not just one that a focused group of individuals think is neat. It is a cool idea, but there are more practical, more useful, cooler apps in the list IMO. Cookbook is on of the most practical, but Desktop Wars would sell the best IMO. Stick-it might seem like stickies, but it's far more useful, and is actually needed right now. Hijack is pretty neat and useful too.
- tizz66, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Why use MS Word when you could write a letter by hand? Why use a forum when you could hop on a plane and chat to people in another country in person? Why use e-mail when you could just shout your message?
Computers are there to make these tasks easier. - sonofalink, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8!#%#@%! I want Whistler to win dammit!
I want that program NOW! Here's hoping it gets made even if it doesn't win... - sleepwalkers, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm really hoping Hijack is the one that wins this. I would love a slick interface to browse through all of the various forums I visit.
- guytoronto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Cookbook would save me from a life of grilled chicken, steamed broccoli, and rice three nights a week.
- Unimaxium, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4After that video mockup that he made the other day, I'm totally behind hijack. Originally I thought it was a cool idea but not #1. Now I think the contestant has a real vision and he can really get them to make something really great and useful for the mac platform. The other guys don't seem to have as strong a vision for their apps as Kevin (the contestant) does.
- bitterg, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3@Veamon
Yes, you can write papers that way, and you can do math that way to. So what are you going on a computer? - Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Try finding something innovative that hasn't already been done. It's a lot harder than you think. Think you could have done better? Well then you should have entered.
- CreativeGuy, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hijack looks like a great/useful app... I hope it wins!
- TheMysteryCow, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Here's another vote for Cookbook - the iTunes for recipes. :)
- Kypt, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Vote went for hijack. Every time I look at that application I just want it more and more :D. Desktop Wars was my #1 except the contestant hasn't really done anything with the idea. Its end of round 3 and he has barely clarified what he wants in his original idea, no expansion to it, nothing so meh, hijack all the way!
- Quix, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hijack + Cookbook FTW (I'm hoping for a tie...).
I would go ga ga over an app that could fill my calendar with meals and make my shopping list for me. I just don't have/make time to flip through recipe books (or online recipes), so I end up eating the same junk all the time. - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Before I put a dvd player in my kitchen, I often used my laptop to watch movies while I cooked and I've also used it to look up recipes. Never once did I spill anything on it.....
I think that Cookbook has the potential to be a great app for Mac users. - ApplCmptrDood, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2that's what i thought about cookbook. but it looks nice, and didn't get my vote this round. i think everyone is going to vote for hijack (me too) after that awesome video mockup which showed what it would be like.
- ashiver, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Hijack all the way. This would be a huge time saver and make using forums a much easier and nicer experience!
- ReBeLaCe, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3I want whistler or desktop wars to win. I am the kinda guy that taps and ***** all the time because I was a drummer in high school. So it looks really cool to me.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2iStyleIt didn't make it to this round, so I'm bored now. It was the only one I could have seen myself actually paying a shareware fee for.
- gleepskip, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Nope. It's terrible. The rendered web page doesn't work right at all. Looks like some hard-coded html with a song title I don't even have in my library.
The apps from the past two weeks were actually high-quality. This week's is really lame. - camwest, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Check out what the judges are saying about Atmosphere:
http://mydreamapp.com/contestants/view/cameronwestland/judges/ - ziki, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4hrm how about one or more times a day?
- mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Some pretty slick ideas over there.
Musicast is a piece of *****. Has anyone gotten it to work right? - Xoligy, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2It's a shame these are Mac only, there's some really great ideas (like Blossom).
- tomi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Veamon - Or, you know, you could reply to the right post.
- corta, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1
Blossom is based on well-researched psychological theory called behaviorism. The guy (Dan) who thought of the app didn't even know about it. It's total genius. It could be an incredible tool for anyone who uses a mac for anything other than games. - wphj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1No, ground control needs to win!
It's classy and practical. And it's in trouble now. Save It! - angelp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3My spouse and I prepare meals every single day and quite frequently pull out index cards, cookbooks, look on the internet for recipes....I would use it a lot more than a glorified Stickies program.
The only time I've ever needed a Stickies program is in Mail. Leopard will address that problem and I'll be able to create a to-do sticky right in Mail. Currently, I just use MailTags to create a to-do straight from my emails. - flashboy131, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Hijack definatley got my vote. Cookbook seems cool, but I have recipes set up as Text documents. I post on forums more than I cook.
- mr.hostility, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1It works now actually, the update did the trick. Just let it auto-update, you will still have a usable program.
- ziki, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2you can vote for 8 you know
- BobWoodshed, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Currently I use a cookbook program called Yum! almost daily. It's not nearly as featured as Cookbook looks like it's going to be, but it gets the job done. I'd LOVE to have something with a little more oomph though, so Cookbook has my vote.
On a side note, I have an old strawberry iMac G3 333hmz with 128mb of RAM sitting in my kitchen and it's the best cookbook I've ever had. $45 on eBay and I don't care if I get crap on the keyboard. I've also got it online too, you know, in case I need to IM while making toast. - Grimdotdotdot, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1I'll nudge it a vote for Herald, as no-one else has mentioned it.
I think it's an awesome idea. - landis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Musicast updated to 1.0.4, html works now
- blueigloo, on 10/12/2007, -6/+7I cant believe how many people are voting for Cookbook.. how often would any of you actually use it, as opposed to say a beefed up version of Stickies?
- freq, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Out of all the stuff in the list, I think the iGTD application has the most potential. If you're not familiar with David Allen's Getting things done methodology, it's an open ended geek friendly way to organize your life. http://www.davidco.com/what_is_gtd.php
- Sarki, on 10/12/2007, -3/+3Cookbook is really the most innovative and useful of the bunch, because it's the only thing that's not just replicating something already widely available.
- screwzluse, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ah, my top 3 would have to be Deskktop Wars, Atmosphere, and Ground Control (in no order). Hijack has a cool concept but I really don't need a seperate browser to view forums and there's never been a time where I wanted to run back and forth to my comp to check a recipe (or have my laptop near where I'm making a mess).
- wackybit, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1PC people are too productive already ;)
- davisml, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Musicast was updated to 1.0.4 and the broadcast page now works.
- enderu, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1That's funny, because it works fine for me.
User error? - anchorboi, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Indeed a very cool concept! Check out his AWESOME screens:
http://mydreamapp.com/contestants/view/cameronwestland/
Really hope Atmosphere makes it to the next round and eventually to the Top 3. - camwest, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Just added some more screenshots:
http://mydreamapp.com/contestants/view/cameronwestland/ - icandiggittoo, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Portal looks like the most useful application to me. I hope it wins; I'd actually buy it! And I kinda like Ground Control too.
- M4cb0y, on 10/12/2007, -2/+1Does anyone think there's any chance at all of them giving away TextMate?
- katanna, on 10/12/2007, -4/+3"Note: Musicast runs exclusively on Mac OS X.4 or later. This free download of Musicast is an unlocked build of version 1.0.3, and is fully functional without restrictions. However, we will not be offering free builds of future updates."
Matthew - jasoneisen, on 10/12/2007, -6/+4Cookbook would save me an insane amount of time and money... and put an end to wasted food.
- spadin, on 10/12/2007, -5/+2I have an idea for a dream app, but I think I will keep it a secret and make myself a millionaire... muhaha. Actually, it's an idea for a community-driven app that involves music and mood.... I've said too much.
- wacka, on 10/12/2007, -3/+0Still less than 1500 voters...that seems like a pretty small number, and most of those have probably come from Digg.com.
- kimos, on 10/12/2007, -7/+1Nothing to see here
- TheBeaver, on 10/12/2007, -6/+0If I had a truly unique idea for an app, I probably wouldn't put it out there for the world to see.
