- Ricaud, on 06/03/2008, -1/+3In Mexico Movistar sucks.
- raytibbitts, on 06/03/2008, -0/+3What a surprise.
- priegog, on 06/03/2008, -0/+3That's because the "comptetition" it does to telcel, the "de facto" carrier (it's a monopoly really) is a fake one. They pact on prices and such. Much like what what goes on in the US (except that at least they all use GSM in Mexico). The goverment has already passed some pretty good regulations for that industry (they're not allowed to charge you for recieved calls/sms like they used to, for instance. So hopefully simeday things will be better over there.
- PeteyAle, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2In Chile Movistar sucks.
- tghd, on 06/03/2008, -3/+1Thats not true thier small and like already mentioned, competition. Movistar is cheap somewhat reliable and most importantly offers the chance to break up the monopoly.
- turpialito, on 06/04/2008, -0/+1Movistar sucks anywhere it lands it's tentacles.
- raytibbitts, on 06/03/2008, -0/+3What a surprise.
- TehrooniAgain, on 06/03/2008, -13/+1John McCain will put the national interest ahead of partisanship, he will work with anyone who sincerely wants to get this country moving again. If John McCain is elected President, the era of the permanent campaign will end. The era of problem solving will begin.

- wobegon, on 06/03/2008, -8/+1"Apple's relentless quest to spread the iPhone to every corner of the universe..."
Right, because nobody in any other countries wants one. It's not like they're buying them from the U.S. and unlocking them in droves.
***** endgadget and all the other sensationalist, Microsoft-apologist run sites.- garvallagh, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1True. Madrid is full of E-fones (iphones). with the Dollar versus Euro at the minute alot of people are getting them shipped back from the US and chipping them.
- lozzobear, on 06/03/2008, -2/+2They got the iPhone and they're gunning for Valentino Rossi too. Movistar FTW!
- tinoproductions, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1That was last year.
He is sponsored by FIAT now.
- tinoproductions, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1That was last year.
- lozzobear, on 06/03/2008, -0/+4On another note, why does Apple only want to go with one carrier per market? Nokia have no trouble offering their phones through anyone who cares to carry them. All this does is reduce choice for consumers, and guarantee that the carrier will bend iPhone fans over and shaft them with their contract plans.
- dexrrr, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1Not every market. In Australia (where I live), both Vodafone and Optus have announced they will both be carrying the iPhone. It looks as though Apple is concentrating on those carriers who have strong 3G network ambitions, or already have an established, wide 3G network.
- welshie, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1Probably something to do with not many carriers want to commit to Apple's demands on revenue sharing. That is the only real reason why you can't officially get an iphone in , but you can have a choice of pretty much any other handset that will work on the frequencies in use in that country.
Personally. I like the idea that the networks shouldn't sell phones, and the phone manufacturers shouldn't sell airtime.
- GDOG5, on 06/03/2008, -2/+1I have no idea why, but for some reason I read the title as "space" not "Spain". I had a very big WTF moment!
- batmanz, on 06/03/2008, -0/+3Does the Apple Marketing department just sit on Digg trying to make articles reach the front page? I swear this is like the tenth pointless Apple article in the last 24 hours.
- ThankTheCheese, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1I can't believe it's been a year and there are still so many places that do not have the iPhone (including where I live; bought mine off eBay). This is giving other mobile companies a huge headstart while Apple faffs about trying to lock in contracts when they could just release it everywhere unlocked and sell 100 times the amount they are now.
I think we'll look back at this in 2 years as being a massive balls-up on Apple's part. - usingpond, on 06/03/2008, -0/+3Wow, is Spain serious? "Movistar"?
- PeteyAle, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1well, I use movistar in Chile. It's not pronounced like moviestar, it's pronounced like mobi-star.
- raytibbitts, on 06/03/2008, -2/+2Spain is only serious part of the time. (Chikilicuatre, anyone?)
Apple's iPhone team is seriously messed in the head with the way they want to control sales, and the business partners they team up with to do it.
Evidently they are not interested in market penetration as they are in mark-up and margins, and pure, evil SIM chip-raping.- usingpond, on 06/03/2008, -2/+2Seems to work for them. And for me, I haven't had any problems.
- raytibbitts, on 06/05/2008, -0/+1Have you ever taken a SIM from a different phone, or different carrier, and used it in an iPhone? How about using your SIM in a different phone?
Did it work? No?
-That because they took a wonderful GSM technology, that's supposed to make sense, and they raped it.
- virtualball, on 06/03/2008, -0/+1My high school Spanish translation (for those who don't know)
"movistar brings you the magic of the iPhone
Want to know when?
We already are '681 impacients(?)'" - raytibbitts, on 06/03/2008, -0/+2mierda

my same reaction when I heard it was going to be AT&T/Cingular in the U.S. - alexgroomy, on 06/03/2008, -3/+0World's most popular news!!!!!

http://digg.com/world_news/Is_your_business_prepar ... - iarenzana, on 06/03/2008, -0/+3I'm a movistar user in Spain. No issues whatsoever but it is somewhat the most expensive carrier in Spain among the other Level 1 carriers (Vodafone, Orange). Everybody around knew the iPhone would go with Movistar anyway.
- peterredding, on 06/03/2008, -1/+2I totally misread that headline. I thought a movie star had stolen someone's iPhone in Spain.
- HorseloverFat8, on 06/03/2008, -2/+1I'd never heard of Movistar, so I naturally assumed a film actor had stole a Spaniard's iphone.
