- jandsroberts, on 06/09/2008, -5/+100Still $99
- l800LEMMINGS, on 06/10/2008, -17/+57$100 is ridiculous i can't wait for a startup to put this out for free and hand apples ass back to them.
- humperdinck, on 06/10/2008, -1/+35Dugg for truthiness. Price is the dealbreaker for me.
- spidertrace, on 06/10/2008, -5/+36Why on earth would they put the words ME on any product? Didn't they learn from Microsofts mistakes?
- roberto_deneero, on 06/10/2008, -1/+31The IT crowd on digg forgets that Apple designed MobileMe for the average joe not you.
- rawg, on 06/09/2008, -1/+31Over the air (OTA) calendar synching is huge for me. I hope they get this to work with yahoo and/or gmail calendars too. That would be extra sugary sweet.
- inactive, on 06/10/2008, -11/+38You obviously have no idea what it's capable of. No company can provide that kind of bandwidth and storage for free. When you get a job $100 a year won't seem so bad.
- glui2001, on 06/10/2008, -2/+26It's conceptually great IMO. If it was half the cost I might consider signing up.
- LawSchoolGuy, on 06/10/2008, -0/+19You act like it's set in stone. This is the first iteration.
- wilhoitm, on 06/10/2008, -6/+24I want support for custom domain names!!!!!!!!
- minneman, on 06/10/2008, -4/+22MobileMe? Apple usually rolls out sleek designs and names...but MobileMe sounds like it came from a) Microsoft or b) the company that invented furbies
- FDDIcent, on 06/10/2008, -0/+14it already supports that, it has for some time now.
- newstart, on 06/09/2008, -6/+19Who gave you the authority to conduct pools on Digg?
- Me1000, on 06/10/2008, -2/+14push works ONLY with Exchange...
MobileMe would be an alternative to exchange for people not in a corporate environment.
So yeah you pay for push unless you run an exchange server (which someone is paying for anyway) - tofslie, on 06/09/2008, -18/+30They had a big chance here to create an all in one Flickr, Youtube, Facebook, Blogger type social platform with great web 2.0 + Apple Interface Practices, integrated with iphone, iphoto, imovie etc, and totally took a dump on it. Yes syncing your data is the right step, but that was only half the battle. Very disappointed with apple. Me.com could have been great.
- sockpuppets, on 06/09/2008, -1/+11clownpenis.fart.uk for sale - send me a shout.
- Coreal07, on 06/09/2008, -4/+13Nope, $99/ a year... Buy a domain and do it yourself for $15/ a year
- sundancekid503, on 06/09/2008, -1/+10Is it turnkey or am I going to have to come up with my own clownpenis.fart content?
- filefly, on 06/10/2008, -1/+10No you didn't.
- BrendanSheehan, on 06/10/2008, -1/+9That's Steve's way of rewarding his customers loyalty. "In ya face!"
- buddhistMonkey, on 06/10/2008, -0/+8You didn't watch the demo. You can probably achieve similar functionality for free, but Apple's service looks more polished than any other I've seen online, free or otherwise.
- SadMartigan, on 11/25/2008, -3/+11Finally .mac is what it has always promised it could be. I feel liberated.
I'm still trying to figure out how it is going to internally support shared calenders - as in from one user to another, I would really like to not rely on third party apps to have a work group calender, with individually assigned tasks. - digitaldivinci, on 06/10/2008, -1/+9There is a jailbroken app that allows you to sync with Google Calendar called NemusSync. It is in the Installer (May need to install additional sources found in Installer called 'Bigboss's Recommended")
- inactive, on 06/10/2008, -1/+8did you even watch the video?
- MonumentMan, on 06/10/2008, -11/+18i dont understand this mobile me thing
i thought that iphone 3g had push email that synched up automatically/immediately. doesn't the calendar synch up as well?
so i need to pay to get push email and calendar??! wtf - xryancat, on 06/10/2008, -2/+8Gmail - $0.00
MobileMe - $99.99
Price per GB:
Gmail - $0.00
MobileMe - $5.00
By simple mathematical extrapolation we find that if MobileMe was 6 GB it would cost... $30.
Nah, I'll stick with gMail. - xike, on 06/10/2008, -4/+10$100 for a service that has been miserable for years is a terrible price. I tried .Mac for quite a while and was constantly frustrated by connectivity issues, login failures, server downtime, slow throughput, etc. It's amazing in theory, but terrible in practice.
- BrendanSheehan, on 06/10/2008, -0/+6$39 sounds perfect.
- gcnaddict, on 06/10/2008, -3/+9ahem
http://community.winsupersite.com/blogs/paul/archi ... - Rekutyn, on 06/10/2008, -0/+6There are other bury types. Like "okay, this is lame", for instance.
- LawSchoolGuy, on 06/10/2008, -0/+6no. you get push email / calendar / contacts if you have an Exchange server. MobileMe is to replace your email / calendar / contacts service, not a feature of the iPhone.
- salmonmoose, on 06/10/2008, -2/+8Or, you know, Google Apps for your Domain :)
- cliffr39, on 06/10/2008, -0/+5completely agree.. if it were $20/year like other email providers I would probably join, but $99... never.
May just do the 60-day trial with 6 different user names after each one expires ;) - SadMartigan, on 11/25/2008, -1/+6how about the universal www.me.com ?? Who wants an org.uk anyway?
- DMCer, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4hotmail still exists?
- jasonpoon, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4I'm glad that they keep the @mac.com for old users, it's much more better than the @me.com.
- vvaduva, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4It's just a matter of time before someone gets push gmail to work on the iPhone, which makes the $99/year even more outrageous.
- SPECOPS, on 06/10/2008, -2/+6$69 on amazon.com
- wjackson, on 06/10/2008, -1/+5Easy, trigger...he's just asking. We can point him in the right direction with out spoonfeeding or insulting him.
At least he's open about what he doesn't know. That's a good attitude to have when going to school. - znicket, on 06/10/2008, -0/+4What happened to the iWeb? Still integrated?
- inactive, on 06/10/2008, -1/+4That URL is for this story. He's saying "Since the URL for THIS story (url here) ends in a 2, would that suggest that this story is a dupe?"
- dmerc, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3Well they couldn't really do iMobile could they.
- CCB0x45, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3I am sure this will work with gmail, not to mention you can set up forwarding on gmail....
- slanted, on 06/10/2008, -1/+4I dunno why people are digging you down, you couldn't be more right...
- KibibyteBrain, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3Unfortunately, I don't think the average iPhone user is in a position to administrate his own exchange/IMAP server and CMS. However there are lots of free services that sorta kinda replicate the actual functionality of mobileme already, if less centralized.
- alpha88, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3Push Email, Contacts and Calendars are ridiculously useful. You have no idea what you're talking about, do you?
- Eaststand, on 06/10/2008, -1/+4hear hear
- TheAssuager, on 06/10/2008, -3/+6who gave you the authority to spell polls pools?
- wonderchemist, on 06/10/2008, -5/+8.Mac: Harmless.
MobileMe: Mostly, Harmless. - EtherGnat, on 06/10/2008, -0/+3Unless something has changed from WM6 to WM6.1 (or there's something about our server) Exchange doesn't sync Notes over-the-air. It drives me nuts, because I almost never physically connect my phone to the computer.
I have no idea why that is. -
