- housewarmer, on 09/19/2008, -20/+683Well, to be fair MS didn't create the assets themselves. CP&G and subcontractor design firms did all that and of course would use macs. It is funny that someone noticed though.
- Freepablo, on 09/20/2008, -186/+625And who gives *****? You know why "I'm a PC"? Because they do everything Mac does but it's about $500 cheaper. I used a Mac for 13 years. I gave that ***** up a loooooong time ago. I heard they at least added a two-button mouse this decade.
- Omek, on 09/19/2008, -79/+494I'm a PC using a Mac to create a PC commercial...
- NinjaJoey, on 09/20/2008, -36/+387Macs are PCs
- anagoge, on 09/20/2008, -55/+262I've never really understood the ego of a Mac user, especially when it comes to graphic design. I'm a graphic designer and have always used a PC. I've used Macs, and they're just not as enjoyable to use as a PC is. Or, rather, Windows.
I like the fact that everything in my PC is completely upgradable as and when I need it to be. I like the fact that there's x amount of options out there and there will be one that's especially right for me. I like the fact that prices for parts are fairly reasonable and there's always competition between companies to see who can do x part the best.
I believe one of the key things that a lot of people boast about is the reliability of a Mac. While it may be true that Macs are reliable, so are PCs. It's the *user* who is unreliable. If your AVS is up to date and you've got a decent firewall and you don't install every "Cool Awesome Toolbar with free smilies!" application, then your PC will run fine and it will be once in a blue moon that your PC will totally crash - just like a Mac.
In short, I'm a graphic designer who loves PCs. If you want to use Macs, go ahead, but I for one will not be converting. - FutureGuy, on 09/20/2008, -34/+216Hate to break it to you but MS didn't "create" the content of this add, it some advertisement agency. I would also bet that no one bother to verify this claim, unless this guy somehow got the raw file he might very well be looking at some screen shot taken by someone using a Mac and posting it on Flickr. And what if the agency did use Mac, over 90% of the computers run Windows so I pretty sure that anything any of you do online was touched by a Windows PC at somepoint.

- poet, on 09/20/2008, -42/+203***** all you brand conformists. You are worse than video game console fanboys.
- fazik93, on 09/19/2008, -80/+239oh the irony
- luke255, on 09/20/2008, -63/+179Hopefully Apple make a new "Get a Mac" ad where PC boasts about his new advert and Mac says "Hey but I heard you did that on a Mac" *awkward silence from PC*, flashes to picture of a Mac with usual message replaced with "Macs, as used by Microsoft"
- rguevara, on 09/20/2008, -57/+169Fake!
I get Adobe Photoshop CS3 Windows

I'm a PC and have research abilities. - FTLJohnson, on 09/20/2008, -12/+111"I'm a PC and I sell fish"
LOL - chroko, on 09/20/2008, -18/+115Hey look - I'm Apple. I use Windows Mobile to activate and sell the iPhone.
The moral of this story: You use the right tools for the job. - PartlySean, on 09/20/2008, -25/+114You have to admit, this is getting really fun to watch.
- swicken, on 09/20/2008, -12/+87They must get something, they make a ***** of money.
- BlackJackJester, on 09/20/2008, -24/+97And people at apple use PC's, what's the big deal? Who the ***** cares?
- ryananger, on 09/20/2008, -9/+76I'm a PC, but that doesn't mean I can't also be a Mac, considering Macs are a subgroup of PC's.
- dn11, on 09/20/2008, -5/+70duh. MS is paying a high class ad agency 10 of millions for this campaign. there is no way they use Windows in house. try and find any advertising or design studio that does
- Junkey, on 09/20/2008, -11/+76How about for 1 day we turn off all the Windows computers, and then the next day turn them back on while turning off all the MACs. Which ever day is more ***** up wins!
- inactive, on 09/20/2008, -20/+83Fanboys are pretty pathetic. It is a friggin' operating system people... get over it. Use the one you like and STFU!
- DeFex, on 09/20/2008, -44/+105Wow an advertising agency that Microsoft uses happens to use macs. its not uncommon, and WHO CARES!
It was much more amusing when they were caught using "(cracked by Deepz0ne)" sound forge 4.5 for some of their wav files in messenger. - darthjure, on 09/20/2008, -9/+64Don't they use PDAs running Windows Mobile in Apple stores?
- Kinnkster, on 09/19/2008, -24/+76I hope a bunch of people don't go all up in arms saying it doesn't matter. It's just meant to be funny, that's all.
- mr_wej, on 09/20/2008, -14/+62I'm with you buddy. I drove a car about 90 years ago and it was such a pain in the ass to crank start them that I switched to a horse. I would never use a car again ever.
- opticwind, on 09/20/2008, -8/+50Not really, only geeks will even hear about this. And if you're a geek, you already know what OS you want.
- WiskyDrinker, on 09/20/2008, -15/+56Freepablo you're 19? you used a mac for 13 years, but gave it up a looong time ago? I call your *****... By the way macs come with two button mice now, I agree they suck ass though...
- tnoy, on 09/20/2008, -17/+55"Hi, I'm a Mac and the only reason businesses take us seriously is because of the software that Microsoft makes for us."
- UltraMegaFilms, on 09/20/2008, -10/+47They didn't make the video. A design firm did. The design industry (video, print, web creative, etc.) is predominantly Mac. This is totally *****. All your Mac Books and iPods made in Cupertino? No, they are manufactured and assembled in China! Unpop your ***** collars and stop posting completely subjective blog crap!
- MegaSchwiller, on 09/20/2008, -28/+65As a hard core mac zealot, i dig this sorta news and all, but come on... Microsoft didn't produce these ads. They paid an agency (cp+b) to produce the campaign. Of course they used macs to produce the creative -- who doesn't?
- Spuy767, on 09/20/2008, -1/+36Honestly, I expected them to have used FCS 2 to do the video. It's actually funnier that they used CS3 on a Mac because it's also readily available on a PC. This means that most of the graphics work was farmed out to a 3rd party and likely not done in Microsoft's in house marketing department.

Apple Store uses Windows Mobile when you pay for your boxed "lifestyle". Linux powered ATM's helped you get some Latte cash for when you snobbed it out at the local Starbucks. It's not a big deal to have Linux, Mac and Windows used all over our lives. Obviously people are missing the entire point of the commercial.
It's more about what people do with the computer than what's inside. - Spuy767, on 09/20/2008, -6/+39I don't see this as an attack on microsoft, I see it as a LOL @ microsoft. If we can't LOL at ourselves, what has this world come to?
- dazonic, on 09/20/2008, -2/+33everyone who has opened photoshop calls themself a graphic designer
- TaosSW, on 09/20/2008, -23/+52It seems as though a Mac user was looking for something to redeem his, uhm, "faction" of fanboys.
- elstevo, on 09/20/2008, -6/+34agreed... kind of. I opened it on my mac, and they have re-saved it via windows CS3 today at 4:30PM. so they're probably just covering their tracks
- DragonForce4, on 09/20/2008, -1/+29RIIIIIIIIIIIIDGE RAAAAACERRRRR!
- smashingmonkey, on 09/20/2008, -6/+31Brand loyalty to either is inane and servile. Neither company gives a ***** about you, so use what you prefer and find something else to feel superior about in lieu of a genuine sense of self worth.
- megamod, on 09/20/2008, -6/+30I'm a PC running linux
- Me1000, on 09/20/2008, -2/+26@Murdats
The company which Apple contracts out the construction of the iPods to (foxcon, i think?) uses PCs there to load the firmware onto them.
It turns out one (or more) of their PCs had a virus on it, which spread to the iPod. This didn't affect the iPod, but when the iPod was connected to a PC the virus would spread. - chompwork, on 09/20/2008, -2/+26@CMYKvsRGB
Fonts are not problematic on a PC. In this case, it's actually the Macs fault, and I'm not trying to be biased. I've worked as a graphic designer for years, and have hit this issue many times.
As anyone who has transferred files from a Mac to a PC knows that for every file you transfer, you get the file itself (file.psd), and then a copy of that file (._file.psd), the latter being the resource fork. It's meant to speed up file transfers. In pretty much every case except fonts, the resource fork is microscopic (less than 1k usually), and houses no essential information and can be deleted at no consequence once on a PC.
In fonts, though, all of the actual font information is in that fork, and there's no way to get at it on a Mac because they hide those files. So a font that is, say, 48k, has a 48k resource fork, and a 0k shell file (the one you access). So when you package a file from InDesign or something, the font file is already screwed, it comes out as 0k, it's empty. Hence, when you then send your packaged files from InDesign to someone else, "the font's don't work." You can't send it, you can't install it, you can't use it.
Even if you view a Mac through a network, and see the font issues with the resource forks, you can't rename the fork to use it, or do anything to it without a special recompiling program. So sorry, but to say "fonts are very problematic on PCs" is not only ignorant, it's just a lie. When a Mac breaks the file into the resource fork, not even another Mac can use it, unless it has previously installed the font from the source, un-forked file.
...and I don't want to even bother with the whole "PCs have viruses" issue because everyone who hears it has the same rebuttal, and it's true: Only idiots who click around on everything that flashes get system-crippling viruses. I've been on a PC since the late 90's and have never had one. Getting one out of the blue just doesn't happen. I personally work from my PC laptop so I don't have to use the Mac that was provided for me by my employer. Not only because the OS is more to my liking, but because it can actually run 3d software (Max) that I need tor product visualizations and rendering in-store displays. - FasmTrout, on 09/20/2008, -1/+24than
- thecosmicpope, on 09/20/2008, -8/+31This isn't really any different to when Apple announced a virus had made its way onto a batch of iPods - because they use Windows when installing the firmware on them.
- ghostcat, on 09/20/2008, -0/+23The worst scenario would probably if we turned off all the Linux servers for a day.
- MasterGrief, on 09/20/2008, -1/+23lol
- YancyFryJr, on 09/20/2008, -1/+23You're right, because Microsoft should include in their advertising contracts that any ad agency employed by them must only use Microsoft products.
Who cares as long as the job gets done? The Mac/PC debate is tired. - inactive, on 09/20/2008, -32/+53"As a hard core mac zealot"
aka: an idiot - PrometheusBorn, on 09/20/2008, -8/+29Wait.. you used Macs for 13 years, then gave them up sometime before the two button mouse came out?
That means you used Macs back in what... 1989? They were such pieces of crap back then, I didn't want anything to do with them. I much preferred MS DOS 5.0 (everything after 5.0 kinda sucked). Why didn't you use a PC?
After OSX, everything changed. Now I can't ever imagine going back to PC. - ShadowofAres, on 09/20/2008, -3/+23"Hello, I'm Microsoft and I'm richer than you and all of your friends combined."
- lilricky, on 09/20/2008, -2/+22Yep, I do, my brother works at Apple, they have lots of PC's there, there is no law stating, "You must not touch/use/own a PC on Apple property." Sorry.
- nemesisrobot, on 09/20/2008, -1/+21I'm pretty sure the fact that more people use windows (and more widely used by businesses) is part of his point.
way to not get the joke. -
