- bertdevriese, on 10/12/2007, -5/+29Games! :-)

- briangig, on 10/12/2007, -4/+20finally another macbreak! this shows got some great potential...hope they keep it coming..maybe a bit more often.
- Perc, on 10/12/2007, -0/+14I guess you already know about http://www.twit.tv ?
- nonokiaboy, on 10/12/2007, -19/+3242.
- Cglass, on 10/12/2007, -4/+16People complain about how fast their machine's are, yet 90% of machines I go to fix are slowed down by the user. It would be like if someone bought a Ford Mustang, modified it a bunch without really knowing what's going on, and then complained that it's slow, saying they should have bought a Toyota instead.
- Pinion13, on 10/12/2007, -0/+11Man, I've missed Leo. Wish he was still doing the screensavers.
- JeroenR, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Just watched it. I'm amazed at how fast they were able to get this out and how well XP seems to run on he Mac Mini (Core Solo-edition). The episode does make it very clear that better hardware drivers are needed, but I'm sure they'll show up soon.
- Ignathius, on 10/12/2007, -6/+16@rebrad
so i guess you're not using Windows or OS X then, since both OS's *support* DRM.
must suck to have a PC that's not able to play video games, music or movies on, since most of these have some form of DRM in them. yup. that must be a mighty boring PC ya got there if you don't use ANYTHING that *supports* DRM. - Timan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13Gotta give them credit, getting an episode like this out; and it shows some decent footage of Windows and how it works.
- ccheath, on 10/12/2007, -1/+11Now we need DRIVERS!
- fitzfan, on 10/12/2007, -2/+12Leo said the show was made for mac users, so all of them have itunes, but after he has seen mow many non-mac users have been watching he said they will probably have other ways in the future.
- dexim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+10"Way to get attention for work you did not do: You did not come up with the idea of the contest (or the cash) and you did not find the solution.
Money for nothin'
You are Da Man"
Leo is not claiming to have done the work. He is simply reporting tech news (like has been for years.) - ToadX, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12I don't see why people think it should be running so slowly. It's not running under emulation or anything. It's also running on pretty modern hardware. Windows XP came out in 2001, and it ran on computers back then.
- cdreiling, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10I miss Leo interrupting and talking over Patrick on that other show.
- kkapoor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Oh great hear we go again!!
Are you stupid or something! This question has been asked over and over again and people have responded over an over again. So let me spell it out for you one last time.
1. Some pro apps only work on Windows.
2. Most games only work on Windows.
3. People would like to have one machine instead of two. (hence dual boot)
4. Making the Mac dual boot OSX and Windows only makes the Mac more versatile and appealing to people who are bogged down with Windows for whatever reason. It does not ruin the Mac.
Now if you haven't been able to deduce that by yourself, I feel sorry for you. Get your head out of your ass and think a little more broadly. I'm surprised a Linux fan such as yourself would have to have it spoon fed to you. - kracker, on 10/12/2007, -2/+10Alternates:

Hed PE - Pac Bell - NewNole2001, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12rebrad -- this is a vidcast.. no drm
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -9/+16So, rebrad, because Windows Media Player 10 supports DRM are you boycotting them too? Or are you just an anti-Apple bigot who likes to make non-issues into ranting points?
- xedeon, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Why so many hypocrites in here? here they are complaining about itunes and calling people apple fanboys and yet they are trying to watch/download a Mac oriented show? come on!!
- Battlecry, on 10/12/2007, -6/+11You know, I never thought I'd see the day when something like this would happen. Makes me feel all warm and fuzzy inside. Really :)
- kkapoor, on 10/12/2007, -2/+61. You are assuming that everyone has the money for two machines just because they have the money for pro apps. Why have you made this assumption? Logicaly it makes no sense. Most people would prefer to have 1 machine. Pro apps include applications including proprietary corporate apps, not just audio and video editing apps.
2. I hope more games make it onto the Mac platform but until then you have to run Windows. Again people would prefer to have just 1 machine. You are unable to justify too me why dual booting is not a good thing for games at this point.
3. Hear me again. Some people require running apps that only work on Windows, even if they prefer OSX they would prefer having a Mac and being able to boot into Windows when they need to use those apps.
4. You would be idiotic, and clearly are, to think that nobody gives a *****. $14000 in donations seems to indicate that a hell of a lot of people give a *****. Just go to www.onmac.net to have a look.
You know it doesn't take a genious to comprehend this. For some reason you and other narrow minded individuals like you simply cannot get it through their heads or refuse to do so due to some pseudo-sense of loyalty to Apple. Remember no one is forcing you to dual boot your Mac, just don't belittle the ability of others to do so. - trunkster, on 10/12/2007, -3/+7I wouldn't call someone a puppet who has been in the business for over 20 years. And of course when you talk everything comes out perfectly.
- felchdonkey, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5The main reason I would run Windows on a Mac is the same as the person who started the contest: so I can dual boot, using a MacBook Pro running Windows when I'm at work, and OS X when I'm doing my own thing.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4Please stop asking this stupid question.
GAMES!
Also, a few Windows-only apps that someone might need.
But mostly...
GAMES! - Perc, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6What's this "M-dollar" thing you're talking about?
I don't need windows personally, but many potential mac buyers today are forced to stick with a regular windows PC because they need Windows for some obscure software not found on any other platform. - Chupatumama, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5All karma points go to lazyboy for giving us a link that can be used by all people.
- kiantech, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5Wow you should of linked here
http://twit.tv/mb4 - katanna, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3What is the forums link they give on the show? I think he says "Mac-dot-net," but that only pulls up a "page reserved" page.
Oh, and dugg, of course.
Matthew - dexim, on 10/12/2007, -9/+12"lets link the podcast video to itunes. Cause you know everyone runs ITunes.
Idiot"
Even as of right now, that is the only official release of the video. Even on macbreak.com they only have a link to the iTunes Music Store.
You really should try to avoid calling someone an idiot, you run the risk of looking like one yourself. - oepapel, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3"won't more games make their way into macs now with Intel chips?"
They would if DirectX was available in OS/X. Which it isn't. So No.
Game developers generally use a game engine which is usually built on OpenGL or DirectX. It is the game engine's job to control the GPU directly. If the game engine is based on OpenGL, there is probably already an OS/X version of the game. The CPU is relatively unimportant. All the optimizations go into optimizing the GPU. As long as the CPU can handle the AI (usually one of the more CPU intensive tasks in a game) then it should be fine. In fact, if anything, the move to dual core should force game developers to concentrate on optimizing the CPU side of the game a lot better. Up until now, only a handful of games even bothered to take advantage of a second core. - BT-Wang, on 10/12/2007, -7/+10please don't post itunes links people. same goes for pdfs and audio files, if you must include a warning somewhere.
- katanna, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3ahh, it is http://onmac.net/
Matthew - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+9'Zactly. Now, if only they can get it to run through Mac OS X like how Classic did.
- mateo60, on 10/12/2007, -2/+4The best reason to run XP on a Mac: BECAUSE YOU CAN.
- callumj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Umm, it is possible and has been around for a while now.
- inactive, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Jealousy breeds contempt. The fact is that Macs are some of the best computers on the planet, and they can now run nearly every popular operating system too. Windows fanboys get tired of hearing how great Macs are, and because they live in a world of Microsoft mediocrity, have to try to tear down other people's enjoyment of their Macs.
- paulc201, on 10/12/2007, -4/+6Leo ment to say "run Windows on a mac" as he had said earlier. He just mispoke. You are the moron.
- TheD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5and why is a linux user so interested in a podcast about xp running on a mac?
- BenStockwell, on 10/12/2007, -11/+13Please don't post direct links to iTunes. Us Linux users can't do anything with those.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -3/+5google "osx86"
- nogami, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3It's been done months ago...
N. - DarthPilatus, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Three Questions:
- Does anyone know if you can install the XP portion on an external hard-drive?
- Can you take the same theory and install Linux?
- How about a Mac with OSX, XP and Linux??? - TheD, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4the problem is they are shooting the thing in hi def (1080 i think). They are putting alot of money and effort into something that is compressed down to 320. lol. Thats why that show will always take a long time to "hit the streets"
unless they hire a ton of staff, but leos unwillingness to have sponsors (that wont last long) limits their budget.
As someone who never saw any of that pixelcore, g4, screensavers, and whatever the hell else they keep mentioning on the podcasts, i have to say that the more visuals of leo i get, the less i like him. Did anyone see the first episode of that macbreak thing. horibble. leo was on some sort of crack "HEY! WHERE HERE AT MACWORLD!" he was really poring on the phony tv infomercial host persona. anyway... - kilofox, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3Why argue of the pros and cons of a dual-boot? If you want it.. great, if not, that's great too!
Why judge someone else's personal choice if it doesn't effect you at all ?
Of course this could be the geek equivalent of which team will win the AL East - Bosox or Yankees... in that case, continue arguing!!! - dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -8/+9shouldnt you be using slashdot?
- Jaymoon, on 10/12/2007, -3/+4I sure hope not.... :s
