This article confirm what all suspected. I'm a proud owner of MacBook Pro 15', and since I switched 6 years ago, I never looked back. - jonorangelotus, on 06/27/2008, -0/+2I can open my two PC notebooks with one hand. That said, I don't see this as a major feature!
- tomato1324, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2this is a nice review, except for the so called "flaws" that they point out. here are my issues-
1-Cellular modems. They DO make expresscard/34 cell broadband access cards. I've seen them. Also, more and more companies are making USB versions of these. So yes, you CAN get a cellular modem (in a smaller package, as well)
2-Firewire. The article states that there's no reason for both a firewire 400 and firewire 800 port. This couldn't be more untrue, and after owning a macbook pro, I do not ever want to own a computer that doesnt have both. Firewire 800 is an interface used mainly for external hard drives, and an extremely fast one at that. Firewire 400 is used for many different kinds of devices, including hard drives, dvd/cd burners, video cameras, webcams, audio interfaces, among other things. I personally edit video, and having both firewire 400 and 800 is amazing, because I'll edit directly off a drive connected to firewire 800, and I'll import video through the 400 port. Not every drive can be daisy-chained, and I wouldn't risk getting dropped frames because I daisy-chained a camera through a hard drive.
3-Hard to open up. This is just an ignorant statement. I have a 17". I can open it with one hand. Push the button with one finger, and push the top open. Just about EVERY PC laptop I have ever touched can't be opened with one hand. I find myself using the other hand to hold the bottom of the computer down with one hand because if you just push the top open, the bottom goes up with it.
I have just discredited over half of the article's arguments against the computer. And the macbook pro STILL was rated higher than the competition. - clockdist, on 06/26/2008, -0/+2Hear hear!
I've always wanted to be a Mac user, but it wasn't until they went Intel that I could justify buying one. MBP's are an extreme pleasure to use. I'm thinking about getting the high-res 17" model, next. - Contrid, on 06/26/2008, -0/+1Love using both my Macbook and Macbook Pro. Amazing computers with inexplicable power and ease of use!
- jrn303, on 07/03/2008, -0/+0This article is hilarious...Notice they use standard Dell, Sony, Asus, etc. to make the comparisons. Not really "apples to apples," is it (**pun intended**). No mention of gaming notebooks (like Voodoo or Alienware), which are generally in the same price range as MBP's and spank the pants off anything else out there (including anything Apple makes). I'll stick to my Sager and the unbeatable benchmarks I get with it, thanks ;)...
