- briangig, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25yes, but does the owner of said macbook pro still work?
- psxman, on 10/12/2007, -1/+25>Are accidental muggings covered under warranty?
No, only the purposeful muggins are covered. - plugues, on 10/12/2007, -1/+20i live in rio, brazil and i simply never take my macbook outside. it's just not worth the risk.
if you display a notebook it in public, be it in a library, airport or school, or even cafés in middle-class neighborhoods, people will actually stalk you for an entire day until they face a low-risk mugging opportunity. there are a lot of organized mobs that will have someone watching for notebooks inside the airport, then call someone from the outside, describing the notebook owner. then they get outside in a cab and the car will be surrounded by guys in motorbikes, pointing guns and ar-15 rifles to the car, forcing you to give the computer away.
people get killed for 50 bucks, why not risk it with a computer? *****'s even worse in sao paulo.
word of advice for gringoes: if you come to our "lovely country", try to hide your notebook computer as much as you can. don't bring it in your typical laptop bag, and try to use it only in the hotel room, and even there, try to keep it hidden while you're out enjoying the mulatas.
and that's just one of the many reasons i'm leaving this ***** place soon. now...anyone from canada wants to hire a skilled video editor? - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -7/+26Must have had a good firewall then.
- shinynew, on 10/12/2007, -4/+21The military knows to attack the weak spot for maximum damage
- rick2k, on 10/12/2007, -2/+19also know as "bullets with seamless intergration with ilife"
ha - DaffyDuck, on 10/12/2007, -2/+15If a BMW survives a crash, does the plant in SC where it was assembled get the credit or do the designers get the credit?
- dulcimer, on 10/12/2007, -5/+15wow this guy is seriously luckly to be alive. brazil can be a very nasty place. i would have handed the MBP over immediately to any mugger.
- BrotherGA2, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9No wonder he got mugged... The stock 15"MBP is worth R$8,000.00 in Brazil; about US$3,800!
Taxes and interest are a bitch in Brazil...let me tell ya.
My parents are Brazilian, and I've lived there a few years. - ibis, on 10/12/2007, -0/+9Everyone is assuming the guy who took the photos is the one who got mugged and not the mugger, who now has a new computer with minimal bullet damage.
- Liggmin, on 10/12/2007, -3/+12digg needs a picture section.
- BlondeJakeBlond, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8The sensor then triggered iSight to snap a picture of the gunman
- zmigliozzi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9It's more than a mugging if a bullet is shot...
- turpenine, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8he should have gotten the case with a kevlar lining... it is clearly intended for this.
- ChaoticHavok, on 10/12/2007, -7/+14Hello, I'm a bulletproof Mac. And I'm a bulletproof PC...............................................................................................................
...........................................................................................................................................NOT! - ridgelawrence, on 10/12/2007, -5/+12My Macbook Pro took a spill of an alcoholic drink. Still works.
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7For all of you asking if we're worried about the owner. No. We can all read, the owner is fine.
- Me1000, on 10/12/2007, -6/+12recovering from his BSOD!

BTW sorry for using imageshack ;) - inactive, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10And no props to ASUS that makes the Macbooks?
- cave, on 10/12/2007, -3/+8... if you never take it outside the house, what's the point of even having a notebook? Anyways I'm from Rio too and no one ever tried to steal my macbook and I use it to take notes at college everyday. Brazil is not the terrible place that most of us seem to enjoy ranting about. Like in every big city you have to be careful and not walk around alone with expensive stuff on you, specially when you look like a tourist.
- Zippo, on 10/12/2007, -7/+12Does no one care about the owner that was shot at?!
Oh wait, it's an Macbook, nevermind. - superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+5Wouldn't it be more like: "Takes a Glocking and keeps on Rockin".
- dmbfan2007, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9Damn, I always wanted to buy a Mac just so that I can shoot it. Thanks, you just ruined my plans.

well, it happened...and it still works! - tsunamisteve, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4"Boom, boom."
- stalefries, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5Macbook Pro pulling a Matrix?
- jpjandrade, on 10/12/2007, -2/+6I'm sorry Plugues, but I must strongly disagree with you. I'm from Sao Paulo, and first of all, I don't think "*****'s much worse" here. But let's say it's even, just for the sake of avoiding more discussion. Even then, I think you are overly paranoied. Yes, I have a notebook (not a MacBook yet, unfortunately), and I take it with me to university, to students houses (I'm a particular teacher, don't know if the term exists in english), all in my car's trunk, because, yes, they keep an eye on it and I want to be careful. But that doesn't stop you from using it when working, or studying, or anything like that, just don't show them off on the streets. I beleive, while it's specially reinforced on Brazil, this is common sense in every major city in the world.
- Samsong, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Uhh.... Duh! You need to use a SILVER bullet artards!
- noahhoward, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5"i would have handed the MBP over immediately to any mugger."
***** that, hit him with it, bitch'll stay down or wish he did! - Misogyny, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5As opposed to the previous owner, who sustained maximal bullet damage.
- screamokid, on 10/12/2007, -4/+7THE HORROR!!! THE HORROR!!!, my ibook might survive
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3Just a side note, for anyone that thinks those are normal precautions... I have used my laptop outside in various very large cities, including New York and London, and not really thoguht much about it, beyond just keeping an eye open when I actually had it out.
Now mind you there are indeed areas of many larger cities I wouldn't keep the laptop out, but not the whole city... - tweeto, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2http://duggmirror.com
- Christia, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2I (or actually my girlfriend) spilled a glass of beer over mine, so bad it came out on the backside through the battery compartment. It still works like a charm (although I had to give the keys a couple of days so they wouldn't stick once pressed)...
