- hagerman, on 11/27/2008, -48/+372I'll stick with Transmission.
- trotskyist, on 11/27/2008, -25/+164Meh, I still prefer Transmission.
- Junior612, on 11/27/2008, -22/+131I'll stick with Transmission too.
- ryanhayn, on 11/27/2008, -8/+79Is there a good reason why I should switch to this from Transmission?
- AtomB, on 11/27/2008, -10/+75Psst...
You asked us to tell you about µTorrent Mac developments.
The beta is out. It's Leopard and Intel only right now, but we're working
to expand support soon. - Asheis, on 11/27/2008, -11/+74I agree. transmission is highly functional, and it's open source (did I get that right??)
good stuff. - SuperSunny, on 11/27/2008, -11/+69I use Transmission :P
- jer2eydevil88, on 11/27/2008, -7/+63I'm not sure why you are being dugg down. Transmission is open source and the more users the more attention it seems to get!!
uTorrent is great for Windows but ideally it would be open source as well. - xp0rk917, on 11/27/2008, -7/+60Can you guys please explain why you are so excited about this? I am a former XP user, so I know firsthand how great uTorrent is, but honestly I have no problems whatsoever with Transmission. What makes mac uTorrent better than Transmission which has been around a lot longer?
- inactive, on 11/27/2008, -6/+47Why is it better than Transmission?
- inactive, on 11/27/2008, -12/+50Transmission is better. It has a built in IP Blocklist importer. It's Open Source. Its much better even than the windows version of uTorrent, imho.
- mopper, on 11/27/2008, -8/+38dear utorrent, thanks but no thanks, you had your chance over a year ago but im with transmission now. maybe if things dont work out ill look you up.
- nawzyah, on 11/27/2008, -5/+30µTorrent UI > Transmission UI (when it comes managing many torrents.)
- inactive, on 11/27/2008, -1/+24Works fine for me.
- brad016, on 11/27/2008, -0/+23Good thing Mac users have version 0.90
- Skootles, on 11/27/2008, -1/+23Hopefully this is more usable than the leaked beta..
- blueandgreen24, on 11/27/2008, -3/+23So this is great news, but I like Transmis................oh, nevermind.
- Jack000, on 11/27/2008, -5/+25last time I tried transmission, the download speed was consistently slower than az/ut on my mac.
- Mindflux, on 11/27/2008, -1/+21Yep. Got it. The "Open With" setting for torrent files seems to make finder hork. uTorrent never launches the .torrent when doubleclicked.
- mediaphile, on 11/27/2008, -1/+17Holy *****. Have you ever heard of punctuation?
- helloyamadotcom, on 11/27/2008, -0/+15I was wondering...do you pronounce it microtorrent?
- DoShurikn, on 11/27/2008, -19/+34It's here Yay! Finally the best torrent client is available on my mac!
*downloads* - Nicoon, on 11/27/2008, -2/+16Well, there's always Deluge which is open source and pretty much mirrors uTorrent's look and feel. It's available for all the major operating systems.
- GabrielRadic, on 11/27/2008, -1/+15Yeah, this would've been interesting a year or so ago, back when Transmission wasn't kicking so much ass.
- Wolf04, on 11/27/2008, -0/+14Paranoia. It's been proven countless times that there's nothing wrong with the current version of utorrent. When utorrent 1.7, there was mass hysteria that it was logging person information and sending it to MPAA, which is why it was blocked by so many private torrent sites but continuous testing has shown that no such activity is happening and utorrent has been unblocked and is still used by the majority.
I'm just curious, does Transmission offer selective downloading, like giving you the option to select what you wanted to download from a torrent file? Maybe I don't want to download everything. - hawkdude56, on 11/27/2008, -0/+13I was just about to ask something along those lines... Transmission has worked perfectly for me. Is this a similar program?
- Anrkist, on 11/27/2008, -2/+15I thought I was going to have to sell my Gold for Cash... this is way better!
- LukeBeaumont, on 11/27/2008, -0/+12I personally say mewtorrent, but each to their own I guess.
- ziggotron, on 11/27/2008, -0/+12Yes, it does selective downloading.
- mk2ja, on 11/27/2008, -3/+15I really like the look and feel of Transmission better, but I just tried torrenting the same file at the same time for a speed comparison, and the μTorrent one already finished while the Transmission one is only at ~30%. If this is typical, that would probably convince me to switch. Does the client really influence the dl speed that much? Or was this just a coincidence?
- paloooz, on 11/27/2008, -1/+12Yep. I get torrents from Demonoid all the time and Transmission works fine. Maybe you need to update?
- cyberdork, on 11/27/2008, -0/+11On my OSX server Transmission is running 24/7 for weeks without interruption. Rarely have problems with it.
- freqk, on 11/27/2008, -1/+11I'm digging you down because it's a broken piece of software that hasn't been updated in more then a year.
- Platina, on 11/27/2008, -1/+11Nobody knows:p
- cyberdork, on 11/27/2008, -1/+11Yeah it says Intel Only, but then why does it run on my old iBook G4?
- iamichi, on 11/27/2008, -0/+10µTorrent is by far and away the best client on Windows, but on the mac, I have found Transmission to download and upload slower for some reason, so have been using Vuze. It's weird, open the same torrent with Vuze and Transmission (or in µTorrent in Parallels) and Transmission will download it slower (in my experience anyway), but I just can't stand Vuze...
I think I'll be switching to µTorrent now to see how I get on. - inactive, on 11/27/2008, -2/+11Oh no! What have we done, guys??!?!
- ethana2, on 11/27/2008, -0/+9Personally, I'm sticking to transmission. Not only does this news not change a thing for me, if I had wanted to run utorrent before I could have done so with WINE.
Transmission does what I want it to, it's good enough for me, I'm not going to bother switching torrent clients. - AtomB, on 11/27/2008, -2/+11I have tried it and it way better than the leak.
- iwod, on 11/27/2008, -1/+9It seems no one in the world care about DHT anymore....
Transmission does not support DHT, nuff said. - RickoSicko, on 11/27/2008, -6/+13*utitlizing Mac uTorrent to download Transmission...*
- solarweasel, on 11/27/2008, -1/+8hork hork!
- tomi, on 11/27/2008, -2/+9FUD. uTorrent sold out to BitTorrent Inc, who happens to do dealings with MPAA. So what?
Figures there's always at least one moron who brings this up in uTorrent topic. - fraul, on 11/27/2008, -2/+9Here's a good reason:
on a mid 2008 2.66 Ghz iMac with 2gb RAM
- Transmission: up to 10 bounces in the dock until UI shows up
- uTorrent: half a bounce and it's ready to go
Need more ? I've switched. - bradallen18, on 11/27/2008, -1/+7I agree. Transmission has drastically improved in performance since I started using it.
- TomGfromCanada, on 11/27/2008, -1/+7It's a trap, this is how they get you.
- farmerbb, on 11/27/2008, -11/+17Ummm... it's µTorrent, not uTorrent...
- geeforr, on 11/27/2008, -3/+9I really dont like Transmission's interface for managing torrents. Utorrents left-hand sidebar, and column views are much better. Esp. when you have many torrents going at the same time. Utorrent:mac still has a ways to go, but I'll use it anyway.
Also - go check out transmission's forum's... the dev's arent exactly amenable to feature requests, esp. when it's about the interface. Something us mac users are passionate about. - JayBabs, on 11/27/2008, -4/+10(transmission) yeah, that's right I said it.
- ScientistBlah, on 11/27/2008, -1/+7Read.
