- inactive, on 11/11/2008, -39/+1114Wow I haven't seen this on the front page in at least a week.
- Magic07, on 11/11/2008, -29/+557Yeah cause the mac commercials are the bastions of truth and are not full of dated stereotypes about PCs.
- nikki2300dk, on 11/11/2008, -247/+715That hasn't been true for a while... an 8-year-old could change the RAM and harddrive on a macbook.
- thinboyslim, on 11/11/2008, -22/+396an 8 year old could drive my car....but i wouldn't ask them to.
- zachxmorris, on 11/11/2008, -19/+27806/20/07.
- fwertz, on 11/11/2008, -22/+272Fanboys, killing other fanboys. Digg, you're a dream.
- Joomal, on 11/11/2008, -33/+252Macs are good computers.
However people buy macs for the wrong reasons. They buy them because they are "trendy." If I had a dollar for every time I saw a douche in Starbucks using a Mac and doing absolutely nothing productive other than trying to be a douche, I'd be a rich man.
That said, I still use a PC. I wouldn't mind a mac for purposes of learning more about them, but there is really no reason for me to have one since ubuntu and openbsd do all the jobs i request from my current PCs. - DrivingVertigo, on 11/11/2008, -33/+246For all those guys saying that your Mac is so upgradable....I wonder how your Core i7 and Geforce GT280 upgrade is going.
....ya, that's what I thought. - inactive, on 11/11/2008, -17/+167I love Macs, I just hate the user base. Pretentious *****. I guess that would make me pretentious too :)
- drunkmuppet, on 11/11/2008, -11/+141Aye, maybe apple finally realized their design flaw with the macbook, but have you ever had to change the hard drive in a powerbook or an ibook? It is ludicrous the amount of parts you have to take out just to swap a hard drive out...
Not to mention that replacing anything else requires special tools that not everyone owns as compared to a normal computer that requires a screwdriver. - Harbinger67, on 11/11/2008, -7/+131Too bad there are many other parts that go into a computer that someone could want to upgrade other than just RAM and the hard drive.
- zombiecarlin, on 11/11/2008, -20/+138except yes it is...
- Hincapie, on 11/11/2008, -14/+97i didn't have to murder my old mac to upgrade to my new mac :( its still alive sitting uselessly in the corner since my entire family upgraded.
- kefkaantakrist, on 11/11/2008, -5/+80Uh, hasn't this comment been on digg before? Buried...
- ronintetsuro, on 11/11/2008, -13/+87Throwing your cash away to be trendy = fail.
Yes. Yes it does. - brundlefly76, on 11/11/2008, -12/+80I have the new MacBook, and its the least upgrade-friendly notebook I've ever owned.
Sure I can swap the hard drive and memory (if I really want to pay 2x the price for DDR3!) but...
I cant connect firewire devices (like my $600 XLR preamp bay), and can't add firewire, because Apple doesn't believe in expansion card slots. If I want to connect a kb, mouse, and ipod simultaneously, I need an external USB hub (that the maker of ipods does not provide 3 usb ports is staggeringly stupid). To connect a monitor, I need to buy a ***** dongle. eSATA? Forget it. Keyboard replacement (which I have done in under 10 minutes with 2 Dells for about $20) - impossible. Upgrade slot-loading DVD (also have done on dell) - no can do. Oh, and no media card slot for the operating system which is supposed to be favored by Photoshop users.
There a lot more options to upgrading a notebook than memory and hard drive. - mleh, on 11/11/2008, -8/+75Starbucks is a fashion boutique that markets burnt water as liquid jewelry, usually to SUV drivers.
EVERYONE in Starbucks is a douche. - BXRWXR, on 11/11/2008, -8/+73Now you're upgrading the Saudi way!
- Zeag, on 11/11/2008, -3/+673 employees, one from AOL, one from Yahoo, and one from Google are in a restroom, at the urinals. when the AOL employee is done he washes his hands, and dries his hands completely with like 10 paper towels. "at AOL," he says, "we're very thorough." the Yahoo employee finishes, washes his hands, dries them with 1 paper towel. "at Yahoo we're very thorough AND very efficient." the Google engineer leaves without washing his hands, and says "at Google, we don't piss on our hands."
There, I hope everyone can agree on this one :) - cheezy321, on 11/11/2008, -23/+75YAY! Digg is back to normal! No more ObamaBots, RonPaulites, HuffPO Spam, and DailyKOS BS.
Lets all get back to hating the things we used to hate, ok? GO TEAM! - fndavid, on 11/11/2008, -6/+58seriously. i've only been on digg since march and this is the 3rd or 4th time i've seen it
- 80hd, on 11/11/2008, -4/+56BOOM! UPGRADE!
- Schrum, on 11/11/2008, -81/+128Buried for repost..
- EBFan2000, on 11/11/2008, -1/+42That was my 21st birthday. What a crazy random happenstance.
- daveruiz, on 11/11/2008, -19/+58I see your problem. You foolishly bought a laptop before you checked if it could do what you wanted it to do. Good job, you're a credit to the human race.

Looks like $816 to me. I think 816 < 1299 but I could be wrong... - Braindead360, on 11/11/2008, -7/+44What's wrong with some of the people on here. I'm a huge Mac fanboy, and I find this funny as hell. DUGG
- viksmaester, on 11/11/2008, -6/+42how do you upgrade a sony vaio laptop?
- fuzzynyanko, on 11/11/2008, -5/+40It's not the 8-year-olds you have to worry about with using computers. It's grandfathers and grandmothers
- flammablewater, on 11/11/2008, -0/+34Fact about Starbucks "Aged Indonesian Coffee" : after the tsunami hit, a *****-load of coffee sat in warehouses for months until Starbucks bought it at bargain basement prices. Old (stale) coffee is now marketed as "Aged." ***** you Starbucks.
- infernal6, on 11/11/2008, -3/+35I do.
- Rehasher01, on 11/11/2008, -11/+43How dare you defile my idol, that guy from dodgeball!
- CoreyTamas, on 11/11/2008, -3/+34Is the video card in a typical PC laptop more easily upgradable?
That's not a trick question or a trap. I'm asking sincerely. :) - wkpower, on 11/11/2008, -21/+52hey, it's new to me. give the guy some slack. not everyone checks digg every 5 min of everyday, you know.
- cerulean86, on 11/11/2008, -3/+33I check twice, sometimes three times a day and I have never seen this.
- slvrbullet87, on 11/11/2008, -5/+34There are plenty of things that can go wrong with Vista, but if your step-mom is having issues using Firefox or even IE the problem is with her not the computer
- zjbird, on 11/11/2008, -1/+30I lose :(
- NealKasper, on 11/11/2008, -10/+38But upgrading a processor? Good luck with that!
- PleaseJustDie, on 11/11/2008, -7/+34I love that you guys are saying how easy it is to upgrade ram and a hard drive as proof of how easily you can upgrade your mac.
Come back to me when you decide you want to upgrade to a new motherboard with a faster FSB or SLI or a new sound card to take advantage of 3d sound and EAX. We'll see how easily you can upgrade your Mac then. - skinnyskittles, on 11/11/2008, -8/+34And look, the PC's shirt didn't even get bloody!
- CoreyTamas, on 11/11/2008, -10/+35That was a long time ago now.
Yeah, very stupid thing to do. And annoying.
But it's also history. - puttly, on 11/11/2008, -1/+25Apple doesn't ONLY make laptops... I'm sure he is referring to a desktop computer.
- pkulak, on 11/11/2008, -12/+36How cute. Did you find this in 1997?
- LordoftheLoo, on 11/11/2008, -1/+24you forgot to add in a X58 motherboard, which if you get lucky is probably around $300. So $1116 is pretty close to his estimate.
- MoeMoeMoe, on 11/11/2008, -1/+24NO, IT'S NOT ***** IRONIC, ***** OFF.
- redace25, on 11/11/2008, -15/+38Oh, I'm sorry. You must not like it when something that hasn't been true about an operating system for a while is marketed as the truth.
- NoValidTitle, on 11/11/2008, -0/+22Sanosuke001 you forgot the motherboard.
- warholsbluecat, on 11/11/2008, -4/+25Wow at the people dogging this guy. Why the hell should we need a freakin DONGLE to hook it up to another monitor? Dells have all the hookups including HDMI built right in. He is just stating that for the price that people pay for these macbooks, they should either
1. Come better equipped
or
2. Allow users the ability to do some form of upgrades.
Digg me down for saying anything against Apple - I hate Dell but I got their laptop for the reasons brundlefly said above. He should have checked on this first yes, but no reason to get all ***** because he's dissapointed. - inactive, on 11/11/2008, -1/+22You take out the HDD and put a new one in.... absolutely incredible I tell you.
