- boscorelle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1We can confirm that a torrent containing a VMware image of Tiger x86 has been leaked to a major torrent site. This virtual hard drive image has supposedly been hacked to circumvent TPM and run on non-SSE3 machines. Sources tell us that the "author" of this torrent used the PearPC emulator to extract necessary files from an installation of the DVD that was leaked a few weeks ago. We obviously have not tested this image (and will not, due to its blatant violation of the DMCA) but we will report more on its quality as we receive word.
Updated 8-11-05 - Sources now tell us that this is a fully working image, although individual mileage may vary due to hardware variance, etc...
anybody finds a torrent link -- hook us up

The mother load: (I think)
http://thepiratebay.org/details.php?id=3367835 - boscorelle, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0excellent many thx :)
- MikeZila, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The torrent I linked to (the "mother load") isn't a fake, and it works in VMware 5.
Bad news is, it's slower than PearPC. - furiouszebra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Extra proof: http://img354.imageshack.us/img354/8350/p4osx0ri.jpg
- deanau, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0We should make a Mac OSx86 on PC's category...
- furiouszebra, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0The "motherload" seems to have been removed....

- Califax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I doubt the "cracker" who did this started the torrent, I bet hes higher up in the scene then that...

- n[i]tro, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Califax, actually the dude doing ALOT of the work is rather involved in the distribution and his comments can be seen on some of the torrents floating around

- Jacobi, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0I'm going to try this on an extra HP machine I have laying around this weekend (before apple gets these jacked off the torrent sites). Wish me luck
- superpixel, on 10/12/2007, -2/+0LMAO. That's it Steve-o, give 'em a taste. Has anyone tried running Vista in VMWare? On VirtualPC on a Mac? How many of you Apple-haters curious enough to try this anyway? Tastes pretty good doesn't it?
Flame away chillrens, but somewhere in southern Cali a vegan millionaire is rubbing his hands with glee... - xerox, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0i have ran Vista in VMWare, it runs fine.
- EastCoaster, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0I ran it on a P4 2.2GHZ 512MB and it ran slower than piss. You really need a Gig plus of ram to get any real use out of it. Yay!!! I now have a totally useless emulated OSx86 running. The only "real" image is the one that is about 1.2GB. There are so many bad versions that look promising but have a big nasty waiting if you give it a try.
- archer75, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1If I have to run it in vmware then it's not worth my time.
- Axim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0if you have multiple drives in your pc (most of us) it's as easy as downloading the 1.2GB osx image, the "dd" copy util for windows, then typing dd bs=1048576 if=./tiger-x86-flat.img of=\?DeviceHarddisk2DR2 where "\?DeviceHarddisk2DR2" is the path to your drive obtained by running "dd --list" then run osx with the -x command in darwin to boot into safe mode.
if there's a password, follow the 360hacket.net guide above re: changing it.
BAM! OSX native - Axim, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0sorry "\?DeviceHarddisk0" is the first drive with 1, 2 etc following as additional drives are present. be careful not to overwrite the wrong drive with the image!
- Grassmunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0so, just got confirmation from 2 seperate people that this does work. From one his video card was identified so no hardware accel, but everything else was working, OSX, the bar EVERYTHING! amazing!
- Singee15, on 10/12/2007, -1/+0Um. I think I am missing the big deal.
Why not just emulate it with PearPC? It is faster?
I am waiting untill I can just flat out install it. - caldroun, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0It works, but a little slow for me.
- Grassmunk, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Singee15: Because this isnt the VMWare version running in VMWare. Its the actual image running off the harddrive without any emulation software at all IE Natively on the hardware. Thats why its a big deal.
- AmZa, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Ya, but it's slower than an emulator (PearPC), so what's the point really? Unless you're curious to see how it works.. or you just want to tell your friends that you got osx86 running on your PC.
- Axim, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it's not slower than an emulator, again entirely depends on your setup. a big part is not having the hardware acceleration at this point. still it runs decently on my athlon 64 3000+
- Califax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Thank You N[i]tro, didn't know that
- glitchbit, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0o0 AmZa do you not understand what NATIVE means?
- ellingswin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0Appearing on the next episode of "The Crocodile Hunter"
- cue79, on 10/12/2007, -1/+1Here's my two cents. The fact is, it works. W/ VMWare 5, it works. Period. A Sempron can't run it, (lack of SSE2 on socket a) but a Pentium M can. It's a big deal because it means Apple can't say that the software will only run on "their" computers. It means that if they wanted too, you could see it bundled with a Dell, HP, whatever. The ability to walk into a store and purchase a PC for $300 bucks and have the CHOICE (and that's the key word) of Mac OS or Windows is something many people have been waiting a long time for. I look at this as nothing more then proof of concept... and with the OS being a full year away from actual release, that's all it should be looked at as. I'm sure there will be more developments on top of it, and it will become more and more useful as time goes on. But when the final release comes out, Apple will have to decide whether they want money from consumers who will gladly PAY for an OS, or if they will release it locked and will force consumers to download a copy and run it that way. The fact is, if you want to run it, you will be able to. Period.
- guardian653, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0it works somewhat (very slow) on VMWare5 for me, I tried running it natively on a old hd, the 945 chipset gay ide controller won't let me boot it so I can't say much about that (it'll show the boot loader but it can't find the root dir)
- prax, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0What's the big freakin' deal? It's a developer release of non-retail software. When it comes out next year then hack your way into it. Piss off Jobs & Co. Damage Apple profits... and help Windows continue to rule the world. Woo.
- iceolpack, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0i downloaded the Bootable Mac OS X86 cd1 and i tried to write it on cd and it finished and when i putted it in i again the cd was empty:S i used Nero6 and burn image
- hckyboy101, on 10/12/2007, -0/+0can i still use tiger-x86.tar.bz2 to do all of this stuff, but just change the file extension?
