- digitalpencil, on 10/08/2008, -2/+9looks pretty cool but i'd wait for a multi-touch enabled version and i'm not sure why he's pretending to swipe with coverflow? you only have to hit the icon once with your cursor.
- postitnote, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6He has a mac on his desk. You can see it. Maybe he wanted it to act like the iPhone coverflow.
- powerbook86, on 10/09/2008, -0/+6Why doesn't he enable InkWell? (Apple's OS X software for tablets so you can write text on the screen). I wonder if it's supported or if he even knows the feature exists... Granted it's not the best, but still it would be interesting if it works.
- StacyWebb, on 10/09/2008, -1/+7Already been done ModBook from Axiotron. Although quite a bit more expensive it does have the backing of Apple.
http://www.axiotron.com/index.php?id=mod - iashraf, on 10/09/2008, -0/+5Search 'hackintosh' - people have been doing this for a while now :)
- briguymaine, on 10/09/2008, -0/+4I'm a mac fan, but not usually too impressed by this type of thing but I would love one of these.
- Steeple, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3i got a toshiba tablet working with pressure sensitivity . there's an open source driver for wacom based tablet pc hackintoshes originally written to attach legacy serial wacoms to new macs, called "tablet magic"
- AmusedToDeath, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3That's what she said.
- joerod, on 10/09/2008, -0/+3its like a bigger full version iphone
- FDL1, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2Good, because OS X has Ink/InkWell, a handwriting recognition software, built-in.
- supermanred, on 10/10/2008, -0/+2NO. Touchscreen sucks ass, the 90s proved that.
We want a MULTI-TOUCH tablet OS X portable... Hopefully Apple releases one next Tuesday!
There is a BIG difference. - nesagwa, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2Affordable portable wacom like screen device?
Yeah, ***** that *****. - Dubbsacc, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2There is no Wacom digitizer built into this, it's just a touch screen. Wacom has levels of pressure sensitivity, this screen only has one level of pressure sensitivity.
- ncc74656m, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2haha, obviously I forgot the /sarcasm tag.
Yes though, I'm constantly impressed with the willingness to bypass an unfair corporate ideology, and the creativity behind it. - webyatri, on 10/09/2008, -0/+2if the most pervasive activity while using a computer is is clicking hyperlinks with the mouse and scrolling pages up and down while browsing why do you need a mouse and keyboard for that.
- BxBoy, on 10/09/2008, -4/+6I can wait for an official release from Apple.
- Steeple, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1i think inkwell only works with wacom based digitisers, it wouldn't expect to encounter other types
- Steeple, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2he's using the coverflow scroll bar isn't he?
- supermanred, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Negative. It's a TOUCHSCREEN. Not a multi-touch screen.
HUGE HUGE HUGE difference. You can't really swipe or use more than one finger, which makes it useless.
Touchscreens have been around since the 90s but multi-touch on the iPhone kicks ass, cannot wait to have a laptop with the same features. - supermanred, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1You beat me by 10 hr 25 mins.
- Haecceity, on 10/09/2008, -1/+2Aside from the fumbling that other people have mentioned, there was something very beautiful about this -- like the first time I saw the iPhone's touch interface in operation.
- qwertydvorak, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1i can do without multi-touch, but i would like to see it do handwriting recognition, and a scratch pad type of notepad that stores what i doodle / write as images just like a paper pad.
- peterinjapan, on 04/08/2009, -0/+1I got one. Going to set it up although there are NO useful how-tos published yet.
- arjie, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1I haven't seen this video, but I think the Engadget article on the same thing had the fellow using Inkwell's on-screen keyboard. Would that mean that the handwriting would also work?
- deedas, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1On screen keyboard? Use inkwell doomas.
- Elranzer, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1Also, the iPhone runs an embedded, real-time operating system. Not OS X.
- Sketchcast, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1I love it when people post comments that are completely asinine, did you not notice the iMac on his desk in the background?
- supermanred, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1I'd pay the 300-500 because the computers are pretty solid, look nice and will probably outlast any other clunky mess of spaghetti wiring you will buy elsewhere. The new desktop iMacs are awesome, glass and aluminium with no visible screws or fasteners on them. solid computers.
For 300 less, you get a desktop tower that looks like ***** with about 10 wires hanging out of it going to various other components, a ***** monitor, etc... Just the monitor on the mac computers is worth 1,000 bucks. - Elranzer, on 10/10/2008, -0/+1This is Digg. You *can't* forget the /sarcasm tag here.
/not-sarcasm - BoobieMan, on 10/09/2008, -0/+1I like how he is giving all us the finger while demonstrating this.
- onlines, on 10/09/2008, -0/+0A little too small for my liking. 13 Inches is fine.
- dist0rtedwave, on 10/09/2008, -4/+4It looks like something I would never ever want to use. Why insist on a clumsy touch interface when you have a mouse and keyboard available. I imagine the novelty would wear off quickly in the presence of usefulness.
- nesagwa, on 10/09/2008, -1/+0Probably not. He didnt do anything other than grab an OSX86 DVD image (which have been available since 2004), some kext drivers and waste an afternoon.
- chkdg8, on 10/09/2008, -4/+3I'll wait as well.
Song: Os Pastores Da Noitte by Gelka on Cafe Del Mar volume 3 - BrendanSheehan, on 10/09/2008, -10/+4Call me when they release the real thing.
- compgeek, on 10/09/2008, -7/+1interesting premise but you know what Apple is going to do about this and that is come down hard with a C&D order from it's lawyers.
- vivalanation734, on 10/09/2008, -6/+1Cool, but if apple made one *which I doubt they will* it will probably pwn n00bs.
- ncc74656m, on 10/09/2008, -13/+6So wait... You're saying... STEVE JOBS LIED TO ME? It IS possible to run OSX on another system, without paying for Jobs' family security when the cancer bankrupts him? Hooray!
The whole concept of "I'm so special, you have to pay a $300-500 price premium for my products" is entirely foreign to me. Sorry, not interested.

What is Digg?
