- reverb, on 10/12/2007, -1/+34It's useful to read other people's experiences with an update. Sometimes an update breaks things. Or maybe it has a needed bug fix or a cool new feature.
- Dewars, on 10/12/2007, -6/+21"this is what Apple's present to you is."
Um, you should give Apple a present for its birthday, not the other way around. - turbofan, on 10/12/2007, -3/+13thanks for the heads-up. Some of us appreciate these links. If you don't, don't bother reading any further.
- reverb, on 10/12/2007, -2/+11This isn't mentioned in the linked article, but 10.4.6 also includes a security fix. On Intel Macs prior to 10.4.6, it was possible to bypass the firmware password. More info: http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303567
- PathDaemon, on 10/12/2007, -1/+9PowerBook here. Front Row still works.
- Refrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+8A .0.1 update to Mac users is easily equivalent to Service Pack updates for Windows users. We just get them more often, along with full OS releases more often than twice a decade.
- kerplunk, on 10/12/2007, -1/+8I wish they would fix the Front Row Movie Trailers... "The movie trailer server is no responding."
Hasn't worked since day 1. - sidp, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Good news for Aperture users – Aperture now exports images with exif data intact. A little odd that an OS X update would fix that, but I'm not complaining.
- kcampos, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7why are people surprised when the update breaks end user hacks. It's unsupported code, that's what happens when you install a patch over unsupported code, it usually breaks.
- sshack, on 10/12/2007, -2/+8Oh ***** yes! Isync updates with series 40 phone support.
My nokia 8801 will now sync. I have been dreaming for this. Awesome.
Tons of other phones are now supported too. - escher, on 10/12/2007, -1/+7Just installed successfully. Aside from an extra reboot at startup, it updated normally. Nothing much new I don't think.
- erlicthemad, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Interesting. results on size by processor and platform. Server is 95 Mb, Intel Macbook Pro and iMacs is 108 MB. But the mini is 163 MB. While the PPC version is only 68 MB. And this is just the incremental. It should be interesting to see what the combo images weigh in at.
- lagnut, on 10/12/2007, -2/+78 week isync limit is now ONE YEAR!!!
- Gardenhead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6The boot loader just has to be reblessed. Jeez. It's not like they intentionally did it, they just put the default efi module back in.
- musichris777, on 10/12/2007, -4/+9it takes front row off of your PowerPC mac if it wasn't already an iMac G5 with front row.
- kcampos, on 10/12/2007, -0/+4OSX updates actually improve the stability and functionality of the OS. A novel concept for Windows I'm sure, as each service pack they release breaks more and more things. It's simple Mr. Windows user, Apple makes cool things that work, that's why people get excited. People like their computer working and working well.
- FrostyFire, on 10/12/2007, -6/+10Thanks Apple for causing the NoiseKiller application to not work, the only damn solution for the whiney MacBook Pros! Happy birthday.
- cypher35, on 10/12/2007, -9/+13"Happy 30th birthday Mac Users... this is what Apple's present to you is."
it's apple's 30th birthday not the customer's, so quit whining about not getting presents. - PSUViking, on 10/12/2007, -1/+5I like to find out what exactly is going on with an update before I install it, so I am all for these posts!
- spin-docta, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I'm so glad they fixed the iDisk...
Every time I tried to cut of the network connection, the Finder would crash! Hopefully its fixed for good! - mugotu, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5I had really been hoping that Apple would come out with new products.(new mac book)
They could be letting the lucrative educational market slip through there finger tips. Was anyone else waiting for big 30Th announcement? I guess the jokes on me. - history1me, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Here is the updated list of new devices (phone) for ISync.
http://www.apple.com/macosx/features/isync/devices.html - underpants, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I love that there was a specific fix from Apple for World of Warcraft. That rocks.
- superkendall, on 10/12/2007, -2/+5It is only TIFF images that had a problem, and it was only a few EXIF fields. They had a worse problem before an update last December.
The reason the OS update fixes it is that Aperture makes use of the image handling functions included in the OS, and the TIFF handling baked into OS X was dropping a few things. So I don't think it's a fix for just Aperture in this regard...
Also adds D200 and D30 support to the OS - thus also iPhoto and Aperture get it as well. - snugsoho, on 10/12/2007, -0/+3I would imagine he means that when you sync your iCal info and Address Books etc... with your mobile phone or whatever with iSync you can now synchronize up to one years worth of event entries whereas with previous versions iSync would only allow up to the following 8 weeks at max to be synchronized simply because of the limited amount of memory devices like mobile phones have but isn't really an issue anymore since most mobile phones on the market pack at least 30mb of built in memory + memory card capacity.
- longofest, on 10/12/2007, -5/+8snipehack... u might want to submit the details of what you did so others who have issues can figure out what to do.
- dracula7, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4they work for me, but that message is always displayed before one starts on my mbp
(which is obnoxious)--could be related to the network people are connected to - Gardenhead, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4Must have been framework issues or something of the like. Anyone know if that weird Webkit issue fixed in Safari with metadata?
- jollyllama, on 10/12/2007, -14/+17Yeah, but Christmas isn't Santa's birthday, it's Batman's.
- pseudo.hero, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I had an extra reboot with my update also, but running once again
- emiliano, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It didn't take Front Row off of my computer...PowerBook G4.
- mrman5917, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4It is due to firmware updates for some hardware models.
- energyblue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+4I have the same problem, I thought i was because i wasn't using a legit verson.
- noeljohnhoward, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3yeah, i was wondering about the extra boot, now i know its normal
Thanks digg - Rob3000, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2>>Isn't anyone going to say how much snappier the GUI is?
Now that you mention it, it does seem a bit snappier. Hey, it's doing the dishes; it's doing the laundry! IT'S MOWING MY FREAKIN' LAWN!!!11!
(shamelessly stolen from a post I read somewhere last year) - stinkyj, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2wish they'd fix the superdrive speed issue
- ph33d, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Front Row still works on my Power Mac G5 dual 2 GHz (rev. A). I also got the weird double restart.
- Nik420, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3My PPC Mac Mini update is listed at 45.3 MB
- energyblue, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3After Doing the Update on my eMac 1.25GHz (crap i know)
Front Row works for me! - starmanjones, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2mine reboot twice too...
- chicagobiker, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3Not true. Works fine here.
- LoungeActx, on 10/12/2007, -1/+3It has iSync support for the Motorola PEBL! I've been waiting for this! Hells yeah!
- vtwin, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2Still not The Snappy™, but closer to it.
- Refrag, on 10/12/2007, -0/+2What hardware release for tomorrow does this OS update enable?
- Rice, on 10/12/2007, -4/+5Why the hell would it have more hardware support?
Ass.
*Is running OSx86 on a dell.* - MicHalpin, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2ibook G4 front works
- sshack, on 10/12/2007, -1/+2Probably because I don't have any addressbook pictures in my phone.
In reality there's probably something that makes the photo mapping difficult to do with isync/syncml and the series40. But I care more about todo lists/calendars and addressbook than photos. So i'm excited. This is better than a new ibook for me. - skellener, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1That's good news about the Nikon D200!
- goalieca, on 10/12/2007, -0/+1Actually all in all the OS is faster. It's not really spotlight that's slowing it down, its probably dashboards hefty ram requirements.
- redheadfred, on 10/12/2007, -2/+3why won't they copy our phonebook pictures over? bah...oh well, at least i can sync my 6230 now...
