- po6ot, on 10/12/2007, -5/+10neiltc13 is basically right. Phil Ryu created MacThemes (a fairly usless website considering that any theme that deviates too far from aqua is usually riddled with bugs and generally looks totally out of place in OSX).
Well anyway, a small community of mostly wannabe designers settled there, each hoping to prove himself by redesigning aqua and going where no man has gone before and making an iPod icon (yes, if you want an iPod icon then MacThemes is the best place to go. Everyone that contributes there has made one, they are all the same, yet different, yet... the same).
Phil Ryu uses this community to push all of his money making ideas to the front of digg and then he makes big heap money from scams like MacHeist.
It is basically spam because, although they won't make money from this, per se, besides advertisements. They will expand their user base who will eventually help to promote all of their scams on digg. - endekks, on 10/12/2007, -1/+6Wow! If you actually look in the forum, everyone is making icons for various programs.
How are you a "wanna-be" designer, if you design a sucessful theme, that alot of people use? Last time I checked, there are quite a few people using that program called shape-shifter, which means there are quite a few people using the themes made from the people at mac themes forums.

- toastyghost, on 10/12/2007, -3/+2Actually, there's a pretty good community behind MT now who grew during a time when Phill was never around, and these are the ones who want to see the front page revived so that there's a more official feel to theme and icon releases. I disagree with Phill's marketing tactics and the use of Digg mainly for promotion, and as such won't be digging this story because it is just a splash page, but MT 2.0 has been a long time coming and it's a pretty big deal for those of us who use the site regularly.

On-topic, it's nice to see the site get this much-needed upgrade. I was wondering when the deadline would be, there were three possible answers - Christmas, New Years, and now, MacWorld. Congratulations on the new release, MacThemes.
