- AnkurKothari, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Very devious marketing. I'm sure this'll be popular.
- johnred, on 10/11/2007, -6/+16Direct link to get the bundle with the extra apps:
http://www.mupromo.com/?buy=heist - meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9So are macupdate and macheist partners in this, or is it a genuine war? I haven't been paying much attention to it all....
- wayne16991, on 10/11/2007, -7/+15This is *****. Just puts more money in Phil Ryu's pocket for creating literally nothing of his own. His agenda to make money and not help the Mac community is quite clear.
- unloud, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Wait, I'm confused, how is this possible?
- blubloblu, on 10/11/2007, -4/+12arghh! Macheist iSight thingy crashes my Firefox on Windows!
- ka05, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7I assume a (private) partnership is present, but for the sake of interest it's great to believe that the "war" exists.
What I don't understand is, if I was to buy the bundle now would I receive the new applications as they are unlocked, or would I miss out on those? - hoyaman, on 10/11/2007, -1/+8The whole thing is a big marketing scheme... nobody stole anything. well, unless they stoel it form the MacZot people....
Here's what I'm wondering: Why is the private BETA of Flow worth something? Fetch is already included, so this bundle has two competing FTP clients, no?
And then, with image editors: Graphic Converter, Intaglio, and Pixelmator?
Thos of us who've been around though MDA and MacHeist 1 have working copies (some non-upgradeable) for comeptitors tonearly all of the products here in this bundle. And since I've been a regular custome rof MAAD, MacZot, and the MacPak, I even have two other FTP clients and a no-cost-toupgrade license to every Koingo product...
Don't get me wrong, there's real value here, and I'll have to check out these apps that aren't canceled out by my current licenses... but with Leopard around the corner, I have even more hesistation - Leopard-specific upgrades will cost more $$$, won't they? - HillerMylife, on 07/24/2008, -5/+12I don't like Phill Ryu. The last MacHeist was boring, and apparently he's trying to make more money off of MyDreamApp before actually delivering anything from the last one.
- bytte, on 10/11/2007, -1/+7Can someone please explain me in understandable language what exatly is MacHeist? I've read the page on that website but I just don't get it. Help me!
- hazard, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11http://www.wired.com/software/coolapps/news/2006/12/72333
$1 for you, $5 for me! Oh and thanks for writing the program I sold... - mithi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Come on people, 9999 registrations and we get techtool pro!
- rbtkid, on 10/11/2007, -6/+11MacUpdate stole macheist's idea - now the heisters are getting their own back. here's to macheist for throwing extra apps into the bundle!
- unloud, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Ok, you are both stupid because windows runs on macs that have an iSight AND it doesn't require quartz, just Quicktime (which is available for Windows). You lose the interwebz.
- flyer13, on 10/11/2007, -2/+7Nice! 49 bucks for hundreds of dollars worth of applications? Can't argue with that =)
- Zero2aHero, on 10/11/2007, -0/+5Software programmers are helpless victims!
Give me a break, it's business. They can agree or disagree to be a part of the heists all they want. Clearly developers have chosen the publicity that comes with gaining 10,000 more users they previously wouldn't have had over hoping 10,000 people will eventually buy their software at full price. - cdcarter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4You would be one of the people the heists aren't aimed at, just the bundle. You can buy the bundle at the end even if you don't do the heists, you just don't get as good of a price, and miss out on a few earlier apps.
- drtaru, on 10/11/2007, -3/+7Don't question the Phill
- Biiaru, on 10/11/2007, -2/+6Quotes from Brave New World, 1984, and the Golden Compass scattered around as easter eggs. I like.
- cdcarter, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4A part of the extras pack are two beta invites, plus an invite to the next skunkwork.
- dementia, on 10/11/2007, -6/+10Am I the only one who is completely confused?
- Blizaine, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3you always receive any app that is unlocked, regardless of when you buy
- theoverlord, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4I agree. I like catchy, off-the-wall marketing ideas but the actual product here is so obscured I had no idea exactly what the site was trying to sell and gave up. Only by reading the Digg comments did I figure it out. I just got a Mac and would probably find the programs useful but frankly I don't want to waste any more time on that site.
At some point, they need to make it possible to just click a link and see a plaintext version of what's going on. The games are fun for some, but others just want to get a good deal on the software and be done.
And if I'm somehow misunderstanding how this thing is supposed to work, its only further proof of the flaws in the ad campaign. - meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3I just found the link is http://www.mupromo.com/?buy=heist so macupdate are in on it. Either that, or they have some very skilled hackers :P
- silencerider151, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3February your grandmother!
- rossbrown, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4If I told you I'd have to kill you.
- cianmm, on 10/11/2007, -2/+4You will get the MacHeist additions by email within 24 hours.
- obey43, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2logged in to digg your post, very insightful.
- dimitribouniol, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2the Quicktime file has a Quartz Composer track in it to make this work. If you don't have Quartz (only Mac's do), it won't work regardless if you have an iSight or not.
- macaholic, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2For anyone confused read about MacHeist first, http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/MacHeist.
- dinkola, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3Who cares if MacUpdate stole their idea. Why is MacHeist sending me emails about how they/we are gonna get back at MacUpdate ... like I care. Isnt MacHeist the ones that where reported to have made loads of money from the last software bundle and then gave the developers next to nothing.
- stgarf, on 10/11/2007, -8/+9Wooo go macheist. At it again!
- heme11, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I'm a sucker i got caught up in the hype and bought a 50 dollar bundle of apps i don't give a crap about.
- queraxus, on 10/11/2007, -8/+9The last MacHeist made so much money for Phill Ryu and left only scraps for the smaller developers.
Nothing but a scam. Selling invites to a beta? Please. - nemodomi, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Thanks for putting a period at the end of the link. ~~:-|
- newelement, on 10/11/2007, -2/+3I bought using this URL. How will I get access to the MacHeist additions?
- meatmcguffin, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1"It doesn't require quartz, just Quicktime"
And quicktime player runs......OMG.....a quartz composition. Don't pretend you know what you're talking about when you don't. - vault, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Stop with the lame pirate theme and SHUT UP already, just give us decent apps at a discount. This is so stupid and played out...
- babakshirazi, on 10/11/2007, -3/+3Developer participating in this are idiots. They get screwed completely.
- siriusfox, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0To run that you need an iSight, OSX, Quicktime, AND a graphics card capable of running Quartz composer.
- newelement, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0It has been well over 24 hours for me and no word from MacHeist.
- AnkurKothari, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2It's not selling the betas. You get to buy the MU bundle, but get the MacHeist extras free.
- macfoo, on 10/11/2007, -0/+0More plunder added + MacUpdate decreased their limits.. in other words - Intaglio has been unlocked!
- cianmm, on 10/11/2007, -5/+5People! Post comments about your thoughts on this bundle at macheist.com/macupdate
- dimitribouniol, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Developers got 10k+ just to let you know...
- durangotang, on 10/11/2007, -2/+1Pixelmator! *****, I want early access to their beta but I don't want to have to buy anything to get it. Mistake on Pixelmator part. Disappointed.
- noverflow, on 10/11/2007, -5/+4I guess you didnt even look at the software bundle did you?
- AnkurKothari, on 10/11/2007, -5/+3Oops. Windows doesn't have iSight.
- dimitribouniol, on 10/11/2007, -10/+8Damn Mac Update for stealing Mac Heist's idea...
