- QuantumNighmare, on 02/12/2009, -16/+130Apple is making it hard for people to use third-party hardware? Say it ain't so!
But that's what people love about apple: take away user choice and tell them what they'd like. - ahhell, on 02/12/2009, -23/+110It works great as long has you buy Apple head phones or the approved Apple iDapter.
/s - outoforder, on 02/12/2009, -33/+99Haha. And to think people pay thousands of dollars for these machines.
- 2ach, on 02/12/2009, -19/+84I heard Apple and McDonalds were teaming up and releasing the Big iMac. It's just a regular Big Mac but it comes in a white box and costs $30.
- RSAgent007, on 02/12/2009, -20/+77"It just works."
- themastersb, on 02/12/2009, -8/+60Just remember that when you buy a Mac it's so expensive because you're paying for a top quality product......
- wannapiece, on 02/12/2009, -24/+70hahahhahahahahahaha
- peaceninja, on 02/12/2009, -8/+53they'd also pay 50 bucks for proprietary headphones
- mohsenxp, on 02/13/2009, -0/+43They'll release it just before Christmas and make sure everyone buys it. Then they'll introduce the Big iMac with Cheese in January.
- aquafire, on 02/13/2009, -8/+44.... suckers!
- inactive, on 02/12/2009, -2/+37Who wants to spend $20 on a piece of ***** pair of headphones when they have a pair of $300 audiophile phones?
- d1ckinabox, on 02/12/2009, -13/+45Somehow Apple always manages to screw up headphone jacks.
It's really not that hard to get right
Fix it now - crazzy88ss, on 02/12/2009, -9/+39The article says "a FEW owners of..."
Way to leave that part out of the description.
My unibody macbook's just fine. *shrug* - dogatemypron, on 02/12/2009, -15/+44I love how people are finally starting to figure out that macs are just like any other computer or gadget out there. They all have their problems. Apple just tends to charge a lot more for theirs.
- inactive, on 02/12/2009, -28/+57Long live overpriced proprietary *****!
- shaughn13, on 02/12/2009, -2/+26Just like they'll implement copy/paste on their iPhones?
- houndeyex, on 02/12/2009, -4/+27They will just make you buy more stuff instead.
- spazzcat, on 02/12/2009, -18/+38I have never had this issue with my cheap $20 headphones on my new MacBook unibody.
- jakem1, on 02/13/2009, -3/+22Yeah, it's so difficult to put a price on vendor lock-in.
- RogerStrong, on 02/12/2009, -3/+22No, it's by design. Apple has done this since the first Mac.
Instead of standard parallel and serial ports, it had only a non-standard serial port. Printers that worked on just about every machine out there from the Apple ][s to IBMs to much larger computers, wouldn't work on it.
Then, with each new Mac, they changed the ports again. New Mac? Buy new peripherals.
Responding to complaints from people who were used to moving expansion bus cards between computers like the Apple ][ and PCs, they brought out the NuBus. Of course, then they kept changing the bus's connecters and dimensions.
I knew someone who had 3 different Power Macs, and needed three different microphones. PCs *still* use the standard microphone jacks used on machines like the Apple ][, and tape recorders long before that. - outoforder, on 02/13/2009, -6/+24...at least my PC laptop comes with standard headphone jacks. Oh, the arrogance of Apple.
- inactive, on 02/13/2009, -1/+18There are $300 bose headphones? Seriously, who the ***** buys bose anything?
- eatrains, on 02/13/2009, -14/+31The Apple haters sure are insecure today.
- jacenat, on 02/13/2009, -0/+17"iDapter"
i lol'ed so hard. - shakin, on 02/13/2009, -0/+16You spent $300 on a Bose product, so I assume you're unhappy anyway.
- kiantech, on 02/13/2009, -1/+17or he just said it so you dont think he has a different macbook, and someone responds, this issue is only with the "unibody" model. I have a macbook pro, but lots of times I say MBP santa rosa. Not cause I get a boner from talking about my chipset, but so people know which one model I'm talking about.
- BlatheringIdiot, on 02/13/2009, -0/+15...ONLY with our add-ons.
- arplayer2k, on 02/13/2009, -3/+18Apple, making fools dependent since ____________ (insert year).
The only mac that is really worth it is the pro, but for that price, I can get myself a Lenovo (which would give you a much better bang for your buck as far as features) and put Leapord OS on it, and there it is. A Mac beater. The best thing they have is their OS. Their hardware was built just to support that OS, using the same manufacturers who are producing parts for notebooks and desktops. - aquafire, on 02/13/2009, -7/+21Except that the alternative isn't killing babies.
Wait a second, this is a bit off topic. - jakem1, on 02/13/2009, -4/+17You're kidding right? You think it's alright to include a non-standard headphone jack?
- inactive, on 02/13/2009, -9/+21Imagine a giant penis flying towards your mouth, and there's nothing you can do about it. And you're like "Oh man, I'm gonna have to suck this thing", and you brace yourself to suck this giant penis. But then, at the last moment, it changes trajectory and hits you in the eye. You think to yourself "Well, at least I got that out of the way", but then the giant penis rears back and stabs your eye again, and again, and again. Eventually, this giant penis is penetrating your gray matter, and you begin to lose control of your motor skills. That's when the giant penis slaps you across the cheek, causing you to fall out of your chair. Unable to move and at your most vulnerable, the giant penis finally lodges itself in your anus, where it rests uncomfortably for 4, maybe 5 hours. That's what using a mac is like.
- adam07, on 02/12/2009, -10/+22I just bought a new macbook yesterday and haven't had any problems with my headphones or my Belkin cable that connects to my stereo.
- Kamisado, on 02/12/2009, -0/+12I actually have a new MacBook with this issue, and it's annoying as *****. I decided to pick up a decent pair of headphones when I got my iPhone and they're nearly unusable for use with my Mac. They're the two-ring jack design.
Oddly enough, I've also got an ancient audio cable that I use to connect my Mac to my amplifier, which fits absolutely fine. It looks slightly fatter than the regular headphone jack, but it's also the two-ring design. - inactive, on 02/12/2009, -11/+23Yeah. It's like Pro-lifers, but with computers.
- scoobycarolan, on 02/12/2009, -2/+13My $220 BeyerDynamic 770s are chillin! What, you own a mac and not $200 headphones? POSER!
- Humppatarzan, on 02/12/2009, -5/+15Why are they using such rough measuring units for the plug? Saying "3,5 mm" should be enough for everyone to understand, instead of using measures like 2,54 cm divided with eight... No wonder they can't figure out simple things like keeping those plugs connected, when everything is measured by fractions of imperial units.
- u8myfoood, on 02/13/2009, -1/+11Innovative[ ways to make users come back for more Apple products]!
- shaughn13, on 02/12/2009, -2/+12Why would they recall the new "feature" they just forced on everyone?
- psykiv, on 02/13/2009, -1/+11@ionelementz I think he meant who spends $300 on a subpar product brand such as bose?
For YEARS and YEARS I had a pair of Signet electrostatic headphones. Those were one of the best headphones I have ever had the pleasure of using. Too bad they finally died like a year ago and getting them repaired is next to impossible :(
They were like $300 brand new, 25 years ago, and IMO half the stuff out there today doesn't hold a candle to them.
I just googled them. Apparantly they were OEM versions of Stax headphones. Anyone who knows about them know that Stax is top notch stuff. - tgc1, on 02/12/2009, -14/+24Mac fans, may I just get you over here for a second. For just a second. Thanks.
Why are you guys doing this to yourself? Macs are fun, they're cool and all. But come on. You have to come to a point where you think to yourself, is this company trying to screw me? Now before you get all piped up and bent out of shape, seriously take a minute for yourself. Sit back. Have a sip of coffee. Have a thought. Realize that maybe Macs aren't everything that apple makes them out to be. Maybe they're not so much better than PC's as once thought. Maybe they're really standing behind clever marketing, and not clever product.
It's one thing to be a fan. But it's entirely another not to stand up for yourself, and your wallet, when a company does you wrong. Stop standing behind this kind of thing. You're only hurting yourself. And while all those anti-mac folks mock you in the peace of knowing they can use inter-operable-standard-hardware you might just be bringing this upon yourself. Maybe it's time you ask apple to explain themselves and vote with your wallet. - jakem1, on 02/13/2009, -1/+11And make them more proprietary than anyone else.
- AngelBunny, on 02/13/2009, -1/+10uhh no, only some peoples headphones obviously.
- clickmyface, on 02/12/2009, -0/+9haha, you said walmart.
- jakem1, on 02/13/2009, -1/+10Well at least there's no problems hooking these new MacBooks up to a standard monitor...oh wait!!!

Difference? - SuperCujo, on 02/13/2009, -5/+14You know, coming in contact weith too many Apple products will end up killing you. Either it is a fatal case of smug or the chemicals leaching from the Chinese plastics...
Look at Steve Jobs for proof - finalbroadcast, on 02/12/2009, -15/+24Yep, no problem with a 17 pair of Koss cheap as ***** headphones, I call BS on this one.
- ionelementz112, on 02/13/2009, -0/+9"There are $300 bose headphones? Seriously, who the ***** buys bose anything?"
