- mrfreeziexp, on 02/25/2008, -4/+61Where's the iPhone SDK already?
- fkr3, on 02/25/2008, -2/+36To summarise... updates may or may not be coming, the only thing for certain is someone at MacRumors thought it was about time to make a pitch for some more ad impressions.
- kent1146, on 02/25/2008, -0/+27It means that the LCD screen is lit using LED lighting instead of CCFL (compact flourescent) lighting. This means brighter and crisper picture, lower battery usage, and thinner / lighter laptop.
The Dell XPS M1330 was one of the first consumer laptops to offer both LED and CCFL options, so it serves as a nice frame of reference for the benefits of LED over CCFL:

- kirakun, on 02/25/2008, -2/+17Digg really should start considering opening up a new section on RUMORS.
- hdberk, on 02/25/2008, -10/+24Hopefully this will bring back the $800 I lost in their stock from their depressing macworld...
- smrekar, on 02/25/2008, -1/+15why not make it easy to change the hard drive? just like the macbooks and every other laptop on earth.
- inactive, on 02/25/2008, -1/+13They've been predicting new MacBook Pros every Tuesday this year. "We were hesitant to pinpoint a specific date, as a number of previous rumor predictions have come and gone." Maybe they should stop crying wolf?
- mrfreeziexp, on 02/25/2008, -1/+12They use LED lights to light the screen, which is LCD.
- corporalclegg24, on 02/25/2008, -6/+14It wasn't their fault the stock went down.
- estvir, on 02/25/2008, -2/+10Only if you're a moron.
- inactive, on 02/25/2008, -8/+16More Mac Rumors spam. Can we stop this and just come back and submit the article when there is a new product to look at?
- MacParrot, on 02/25/2008, -0/+7The update is absolutely free unless you buy something
- raiden431, on 02/25/2008, -4/+10Okay, maybe I'm an idiot, but what do they mean by LED screen? Is it replacing the LCD screen?
- cbmd, on 02/25/2008, -1/+6I hope they will update their cinema displays, I'm about to buy one very soon I think and I don't want to be f-ked over with an update right after.
- Pittance, on 02/25/2008, -0/+5You invested in apple after (or stayed in) the iphone? Comon. Apple has some good ideas, but that was the 2-year long wait ace in the hole. You gotta realize that no company can keep that kind of momentum for too long.
- mattluiz, on 08/28/2009, -2/+7Yeah, the whole market has gone to ***** lately.
- mikephimikephi, on 02/25/2008, -0/+5I just hope they pull the lead out.
I've been waiting for the new macbook pro's for weeks so that I can finally upgrade from vista to osx - fkr3, on 02/25/2008, -1/+6You're concerned that you might be psychic because something you read today might be true tomorrow?? I think you somehow misunderstand the general concept of psychic... someone else's idea coming true != you're psychic.
- BlackStrain, on 02/25/2008, -0/+4But this way they'll eventually be right and then they can go 'Ha! Told you so.'
- Murdats, on 02/25/2008, -3/+7in other news I installed some windows updates recently, read my exciting tale after the jump.
- Kelmon, on 02/25/2008, -0/+4The cinema displays were very nice when first released but they are definitely getting a bit old. As much as I like Apple's products (in general), I'd be inclined to look elsewhere for a monitor at present unless they do (finally) refresh them.
- associate989, on 02/25/2008, -0/+4My Apple Certified Retailer in northwest Arkansas told my dad that they were 100% out of all non-Air portables, both Macbooks and Macbook Pros. He also told us that both would be updated on Tuesday, since that's when their order for them is going out. Apparently they are dropping the white model Macbook and going with a black option and an aluminum option, as well as adding backlit keyboards and LED screens. MBPs are getting Penryn processors, the choice between 256 and 512 megabytes of VRAM, and the chicklet keyboard found on the air and the macbook. Of course, both new portables will have multi-touch trackpads.
- djh816, on 02/25/2008, -1/+5How is that at ALL confusing? It's an update to the MacBook Pro line up. That's exactly what the title leads you to believe.
- Kelmon, on 02/25/2008, -0/+3Given that the iMac runs mobile versions of Intel's desktop processors (in fact, no Apple computer does - they only use the laptop or server processors) and that they are probably moving over to the Penryn line in laptops soon, I'd suggest that the iMac would be expected to see the same update at around the same time. Usually the iMac gets the new processor family upgrade at around the same time as the MacBook Pro with the MacBook some time later.
- iLEZ, on 02/25/2008, -0/+3And for the love of the flying spaghetti monster: Magnetic latch (or equivalent) FTW!
- Kelmon, on 02/25/2008, -0/+3Assuming that the Mini is updated again and not simply discontinued as a product line, I think you'll be waiting about another 3- to 6-months for the current models to get the new processors. Perhaps they'll be updated at around the same time as the MacBook is updated.
- Kelmon, on 02/25/2008, -0/+3I believe there's a returns period (30 or 90-days, I can't remember which). Given this you can always return the old model and exchange it for a new one. Either way I don't see you having any issue getting hold of the new hotness, assuming you are prepared to wait a bit longer. Unfortunately, waiting for Apple updates generally requires the patience of a saint, or possibly the dead.
- sjm20k, on 02/25/2008, -0/+2i literally just got my MBP today, am I screwed if they drop the new ones tomorrow?
- thedragon4453, on 02/25/2008, -0/+2I hope that is true. That would make the portable line extremely enticing.
- Tippis, on 02/25/2008, -0/+2Well, now that Blu-Ray has won the HD format battle, Apple can finally go ahead and start putting the required infrastructure in without the risk of betting on the wrong horse. Updating the Cinema Displays to include HDCP would be *one* step along the way...
- Ellipsys, on 02/25/2008, -1/+3Here's hoping for a chassis redesign, magnetic latch, multitouch trackpad, and GeForce 9600GT graphics card.
- TomFrost, on 02/25/2008, -1/+3Bad sarcasm is bad.
- Barbarino, on 02/25/2008, -1/+3i want a new mini...
- jocamero, on 02/25/2008, -0/+2It's called "Bury It"
- Urkel, on 02/25/2008, -1/+3They have one. Digg | Apple.
Other products don't usually get the rumor treatment so as nice as it would be to separate the weekly rumors from the facts then it would end up being yet another Apple channel. - Digisphere, on 02/26/2008, -0/+2Store is down! I repeat store is down!
- portos12, on 07/02/2008, -0/+1It appears that Apple is finally going to deliver the anticipated MacBook Pro updates

http://www.e-uuu.com - Professr, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1I wonder if they have a trade-in program for MBPs...
- knightboat, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1While we're sharing, I found a link for you too: http://www.wsu.edu/~brians/errors/your.html
- mrBitch, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1well, I upgraded from vista to osx, and yes - osx is a huge boost in stability and productivity over vista.
- mparker7410, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1I'm just going to assume this is true. It will get me through the day. LOL
Seriously this is exactly the kind of update I'm hoping for. - lechuga, on 02/26/2008, -0/+1lol. you said upgrade.
- Urkel, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1Will people be disappointed if it's just a spec upgrade? I've been waiting a long time to upgrade so I'm hoping that there will be more to this than just a new proc.
- wheezy360, on 02/25/2008, -1/+2Cheers, thanks for that. (And wtf @ someone digging down my original, legitimate question? Diggs are so irrelevant.)
- nitzan, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1I believe you have 14 days to return/replace your MBP, that includes getting one of the new ones instead. If it comes out in more then 14 days though, you probably are screwed.
- Digisphere, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1Updatex2: Best Buy part numbers reportedly show new model numbers for Mac Book Pros priced the same as current models, according to two posters. Appleinsider confirms new Best Buy part numbers.
- craterburnsu, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1If it works, don't try and fix it.
- cmgriffi, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1That would really suck if they actually did come out tomorrow. I would try to put it back in the package as neat as possible and wait till tomorrow.
- northernmonkee, on 02/25/2008, -0/+1Not if you bought it from an Apple store or Apple online. You have 15 days to replace it with a new one. You might have to complain a little to get it but they will give in.

What is Digg?
