macrumors.com — Apple has released MacBook Pro Software Update 1.0, which "provides important bug fixes and is recommended for all 2.2/2.4GHz MacBook Pro models." While Apple does not elaborate on the contents of the update, an analysis of the update package indicates that it contains improvements to the graphics subsystem.

- EDITXTREEM, on 10/11/2007, -10/+4Cool!
- eatrains, on 10/11/2007, -4/+47Phew. I'm glad Apple still makes computers.
- nusuni, on 10/11/2007, -3/+9Surprised it took them this long to release a fix
- ttfkam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+7It's only been about a month since the new versions of the MacBook Pro were released. Consider the time it takes for the public to get one (not possible before a month ago), set it up, run benchmarks, re-run them to check your findings, submit your findings to Apple, have them verify the problem, identify the problem, fix the problem, package the fix, test the fix for regressions, and then finally release it.
Personally, I'm impressed with their turn-around time. (And for what it's worth, I own one of the 2.2GHz MacBook Pros.)

- briguy89, on 10/11/2007, -13/+5"Phew. I'm glad Apple still makes computers." -eatrains // LOL - I totally agree. I'm actually tired of hearing about the iPhone! How about some computer stuff!!! Especially Mac Book Pro stuff... I'm going to buy one soon... When Leopard comes out... :-P
- hadphild, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Its going to be a busy day for Apple when Leopard does come out.
- rlutterb, on 10/11/2007, -2/+10Fight the power dude. I cower in your flagrant disregard for the comment system.
- madskjaer, on 10/11/2007, -7/+3Too bad my MacBook PRO is 2.0GHz - it doesn't seem to show up in the software updater...
- Vidd, on 10/11/2007, -0/+12It's not Santa Rosa-based.
- yabos, on 10/11/2007, -0/+9Why, you WANT your computer to have problems?
- deolaudamus, on 10/11/2007, -2/+14Too bad this couldn't contain a fix for the AirPort bug that keeps causing my brand new $2,000 MBP to freakin' kernel panic and CRASH every time I try to browse the web on battery power!! :(
- YouKnowWho, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Maybe the airport card is acting up? Have you taken it to the Apple Store for them to take a look at it?
- defunct, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1My wife was having a similar problem with her MBP. Turns out that after applying a firmware upgrade to our D-Link 655, the problem went away.
- montage, on 10/11/2007, -0/+8Its a bug in the 10.4.10 AirPort driver. No known workaround but I've read some people have fixed it by downgrading the AirPort kext to 10.4.9.
- digid, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2good idea... in fact I'll try that right now.
- digid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2This is happening to my MBP as well. Only happens on battery power. My kernel panic log shows the source being related to wireless.
- UCFmethod, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2I have a macbook pro 2.16 core 2 duo, wireless on battery power works fine. hahaha
- digid, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1i have the exact same one. It could be related to the encryption methods. What kind of encryption are you using?
- Lassan, on 10/11/2007, -10/+3I though Macs weren't supposed to crash?
I smell hypocrisy. oO- phoomp, on 10/11/2007, -5/+2shhhh .... yer bursting the bubble
- feens, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1I had a similar problem on my Powerbook 15", but it seemed to be RAM that I installed that was causing the issue.
- digitalarcanum, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2This, ladies and gentleman is why I'm a proud PC user. I can buy any part from any manufacturer, and provided they have a decent rep and the hardware comes with an install CD, it will "just work", driver install and all, better than this.
- sinembarg0, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1What models of MBPs do you guys have? I'm posting this from a 10.4.10 17inch 2.4ghz "santa rosa" MBP while using battery power only (I unplugged just for this comment). Maybe it only affects the 15inch models.
- YouKnowWho, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Maybe the airport card is acting up? Have you taken it to the Apple Store for them to take a look at it?
- fejimush, on 10/11/2007, -3/+14Nice to see they are keeping up. I just switched from 15 years of Microsoft to Apple. I wish I had done it sooner.
- jesstech, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Me too, and I'm pretty happy. I haven't been experiencing the multitude of problems everyone else seems to be with Airport and the like. There's very slight yellow discoloration on my LCD in the bottom eighth of the screen, but nothing important ever ends up there except the dock and maybe a status bar or two, so it's not worth returning.
- Xenogis, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1The new macbook pro is also my first apple and I haven't had very many problems with it. Right now the only thing that bugs me is doom 3 craps out when I turn on AA in OS X, hopefully this update will fix that.
- Interestingness, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1The iPhone is the only thing on peoples minds today, tomorrow will be a brave new world (sorta) then Monday i bet most people update.
http://ThunkDifferent.com - neiltc13, on 10/11/2007, -9/+2Buried as SPAM. Longofest continually posts links to this Mac Rumors site which he is a staff member of although in his post he links to the actual page at Apple.com:
http://www.apple.com/support/downloads/macbookprosoftwareupdate10.html
This is not acceptable - one of the first things digg tells you to do before submitting a link is "Link directly to the source", so why has longofest not done so here?- pyrates, on 10/11/2007, -1/+4Read the story. They also reported the benchmark tests against the new update. It wasn't just a rehash of what Apple put on their website.
- kabz, on 10/11/2007, -7/+1Well, my giant-ass MBP 17" is going back today or tomorrow. I love my small PB, but the whole giant form factor is just too much. It will be replaced with the new Precision M4300, which is a continuation of the M60, M65 line. I have an M60 and it rocks, though it's a bit plasticcy. I sure hope that Ubuntu runs as well on the M4300 as it does on the M60. I am posting this from Feisty LiveCD on my work M60.
- parsap, on 10/11/2007, -1/+2Fascinating. Thank you for this.
- jason469, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Wait a minute! Apple makes computers?????? I thought they only made iPhones ;)
- fffizzz, on 10/11/2007, -3/+2I love my MBP, only the 15" but even at times seems huge :P
- Palaceguard, on 10/11/2007, -5/+11Apple is working on a new Macbook Pro2 with a built in iPhone.
- tvweasel, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1No, it's the iPhone2. It has a built in quarter inch beard trimmer, so you too can have a Steve Jobs beard.
- insanewriters, on 10/11/2007, -0/+4I'm not sure what the deal could be, but I have a Core 2 Duo 2.33Ghz model and we got Superdrive firmware updates today. Perhaps that is a part of the update for the Santa Rosa models.
- sw1val, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Same. Does this mean the this update is not for us and only for the Santa Rosa Chip set MBP?
- brianez21, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2I think this update is for the 2.2/2.4Ghz Santa Rosa MBPs.
My 2.33Ghz Merom MBP has another update for the Superdrive (v2.1) though. My ***** 6xDL Superdrive has some issues burning long discs at high speeds, hopefully this will resolve it since I really don't want to send my only computer away for AppleCare to fix it.
- sw1val, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1Same. Does this mean the this update is not for us and only for the Santa Rosa Chip set MBP?
- vick04, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2This update is most likely to fix the core duo 2 cpu bug
http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2007/Jun/0606.html - vick04, on 10/11/2007, -6/+1This update is most likely to fix the core duo 2 cpu bug
http://seclists.org/fulldisclosure/2007/Jun/0606.html - thejohnny, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Whatever it fixed, I can finally use Handbrake on my Santa Rosa MBP.
- anagramarama, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2handbrake works ok for me pre patch...
- signal15, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3glxgears ran at ~5375 FPS before the update, and now runs around 5575 FPS. So there is a small increase in performance. No idea what it would be with a real benchmarking tool.
- seven999, on 10/11/2007, -4/+1Apple this iPhone that. Got some great news, word is Paris Hilton is seen with a iPhone calling while shopping for a iMac or powerbook or both in a Apple store. (so that sums up all the news for the last week...)
- mrStarbuck, on 10/11/2007, -3/+4Why is this getting diggs? Now I'm an Apple user myself, but this is just silly.
- jesstech, on 10/11/2007, -2/+2Because this *fixes problems* new MBP owners have been experiencing with the graphics chipset. Why the hell *wouldn't* it get dugg?
- skinfitz, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Would you prefer another iPhone story?
- brightscreamer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+3Is anyone else having problems opening iTunes after installing these updates? It bounces on the dock once or twice, but will not open. : (
- katsanes, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2I had to disable Shapeshifter to get in, but had the same thing you saw prior to that...
- brightscreamer, on 10/11/2007, -0/+2Shapeshifter...I just downloaded it yesterday and it's already giving me problems. Not. Good.
- ttfkam, on 10/11/2007, -0/+1Works for me.
- katsanes, on 01/30/2008, -0/+2I had to disable Shapeshifter to get in, but had the same thing you saw prior to that...
- presentday, on 10/11/2007, -1/+1This update "solves" also the problem of the temperature near the GPU Diode (nVidia Card). Before the update it was getting 75-80' C hot and now it doesn't get hotter than 65' C.
